Why User Reviews Matter For Your Business

Just a few years ago, if you wanted to read a movie review, you had to read it in a newspaper from a professional movie critic. Yes, as hard as it is for younger generations to imagine, not everybody was a “professional” restaurant or movie critic before the early 2000s. It wasn’t until the Internet became popular and smartphone use exploded that we witnessed a huge influx of user reviews.

Websites like Yelp and Google’s Local Guides are just two of the websites that allow users to provide feedback. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love reading reviews. They are extremely beneficial for me when I’m making a decision about where to eat, and they’re also useful for business owners. You can learn a lot about a product or a service by reading what other people have to say, and businesses can evaluate that information to improve their customer service.

And that is exactly what today ‘s infographic focuses on. There’s a lot of data about user reviews and how they affect businesses. Did you know that user reviews increase sales by 18 percent, on average? I was shocked when I read that statistic, but user reviews help me decide whether to patronize a business. But then again, I, myself, usually skip buying a product, which wasn’t reviewed by a trusted source. User reviews are important — find out why.

This Is Why Cognitive Biases Are Harmful

Even if you try to seek out new opinions, sometimes you’ll still believe what you want to believe, regardless of evidence. We’re all human, after all.

These are our cognitive biases, which are sometimes paired with stubbornness and a strong desire to be right at all times.

Have you ever met someone and decided you loved them or hated them immediately? If you’ve only known them for a few minutes, how confident can you be about their personality?

Regardless of how inaccurate our feelings are, we shape our knowledge of the world with assumptions and past experiences. It helps us create a full picture of something or someone, which can be good and bad. Stereotypes are born from this, and we often rely on stereotypes to process information efficiently.

This is infographic is useful if you’re interested in objectively processing why your brain responds the way it does, but it’s probably not as useful when you meet someone and dislike them because they remind you of an ex who broke your heart. This cognitive bias codex will help you learn your own biases and  avoid unnecessarily awkward interactions in the future.

The Top Five Reasons Weddings End In Disaster

My sister’s wedding is next week, and she’s been very particular with planning. She has the venue reserved, the perfect dress, and her bridal party is ready to go. Even though she’s prepared, she’s still particular about every detail. She doesn’t want her wedding to be spoiled by anything, let alone something seemingly insignificant.

According to the team at WedSafe, the top reason couples have their weddings go awry is because they’re forced to cancel or postpone the ceremony. Some of the top reasons a ceremony has to be canceled or postponed are sudden, unexpected illness, severe weather or venues cancelling, you may be out cash if your day doesn’t go as planned.

A happy day can become quite sad if property damage takes place. If your guests get out of control because they’re intoxicated, they could end up damaging your wedding venue, which leads to you being charged hefty fees.

The simplest way to make sure your big day stays stress-free is to by investing in wedding insurance. If you need help getting started, check out WedSafe. They’ll give you all the resources you need to make sure your wedding goes smoothly.

Egg Yolks & Fresh Cheese: How Different Countries Take Their Coffee

How do you like your coffee? With egg yolks? Maybe some lemon juice? Or with a sprinkle of pepper? If these options startle you, you may be missing out on delicious coffee concoctions from around the world.

Personally, I like to order a soy mocha or large Americano the morning after not getting enough sleep. But this infographic has opened my eyes to all the other coffee possibilities. I wouldn’t say no to an Austrian Wiener Melange (60% milk foam, cocoa powder, steamed milk and espresso); or even an Indonesian Kopi Joss, with a piece of hot charcoal in an espresso. It sounds strange, but people swear by it!

If you’re looking for a little kick with your coffee, then there’s the Pharisäer from Germany, with sugar and rum. Or you can get even more adventurous and order the Norwegian Karsk, a drink that combines coffee, moonshine and sugar.

Changing up your coffee order could be a digestion risk, and the Vietnamese Ca Phe Trung with egg yolks and condensed milk may not be for everyone.

A Complete Guide To Whiskey Types & Flavors

I enjoy a whiskey the same way I enjoy dairy-based products: not for long. In the case of dairy, I’m lactose-intolerant. For whiskey, I’m just not a big fan.

I’m what most whiskey fans would consider a wimpy drinker — I prefer sweet over bitter, light over rough, and breathing over coughing. But according to this infographic, there are different ways to enjoy each type of whiskey (spelled with or without an ‘e’; depending on where you are in the world), even if you’re not a hardcore connoisseur. It’s almost got me tempted.

For example, if you want to impress your “manly man” boss, there is a whiskey for it. Try bourbon, which can be consumed with smoked ribs and is aged for at least two years. Or you could go for Tennessee whiskey, which is sweet with hints of charcoal.

Even if you’re someone who doesn’t love the taste of strong liquor, this infographic may convince you to give it another try. It also gives you signature drinks to try with each type of whiskey, so you’ll be able to order at a bar like a pro.

Whiskey is for people with purpose who aren’t afraid to try something new.

10 Tips For Learning A New Language Quickly

Can you imagine traveling to a foreign place and being able to communicate with the locals without a translator? The possibility to live the world from another culture’s perspective is one of the charms of learning a new language. Here are some of the best tips for mastering your Spanish, French or Swahili as you start to plan your summer vacations. Most expensive language schools offer “full immersion” courses that they claim work wonders for your newly acquired knowledge. What do you do when your budget won’t allow for a two-week language learning retreat? Make it happen at home!

Put some music on in the language of your choice while you do the dishes. Rent foreign movies to get accustomed to pronunciation. Turn the radio or television on while you do other things and you’ll see how much your accent and understanding improves in a short span of time.

Another great tip that helps is trying to narrate everyday activities in another language while doing them. This makes it easier to improvise ,and you’ll be surprised at how your vocabulary improves. In the end, language learning is less a matter of innate ability and more about not giving up. You can totally master another language in a few months — I believe in you!

50 Ways To Relax Without Spending Any Money

Compared to previous generations, we have a wealth of information at our fingertips, but there is no doubt that we have developed some bad habits as well. Stress in particular has a huge impact on our bodies and health, and being on our phones all the time can’t help. Regardless of your background, both your home and work environments can be pretty stressful. Finding ways to healthily relax has never been more important than it is now.

If you routinely feel overwhelmed, this infographic will provide useful information about how to chill out. For example, incorporating self-care every morning is crucial if you want to start your day on the right foot. Morning showers, stretches and a cup of tea or coffee can all prepare you for your work day. On your lunch break, try getting out into the sun and de-clutter your desk. Try to avoid eating fast food.

Like most things, de-stressing requires a fair amount of preparation. But it’s also important you don’t look for an easy fix. Getting rid of stress takes time and effort, and there’s no magical cure. If you’ve been feeling tense, it’s time to make changes, and today’s infographic is a fantastic starting point.

Marriage Counseling Strengthens Bonds and Reduces Divorce

While weddings are always a blast, marriage isn’t as easy. It can be a beast that requires a lot of hard work. Just ask the royal family. Prince Harry’s new bride Duchess Meghan is divorced, and Harry’s father, Prince Charles, is on his second marriage.

The first royal divorce made history in 1534 when King Henry VII infamously parted ways with his first wife Katherine of Aragon. The king even left the Catholic Church because the Pope denied his divorce request. In the end, Henry VIII had six wives, and he also started the Protestant Reformation.

In America, the divorce rate for a first marriage is a staggering 50 percent, and the rate for subsequent marriages is even higher. A good marriage counseling session can help a marriage heading towards divorce, as 75% of couples say their partnership improved after meeting with a counselor.

A marriage counselor can help married couples with the key reasons for marriage upheavals, which include poor communication, issues with in-laws, feelings of contempt, and loss of attraction.

Furthermore, counselors can help troubled couples sort out their unspoken issues, which is important, considering that 22 percent of marriages on the brink of failure have no clear reasons for the impending implosion. In an attempt to create a stronger bond that survives divorce, a counselor brings emotional and mental health into the relationship through actionable steps that improve communication and teach emotional intelligence to resolve lingering issues. Don’t knock it until you try it.

How Dog CPR Could Potentially Save Your Pet’s Life

The love between a dog owner and dog can’t be overstated. You want the best for your pet, and you take care of them by planning regular veterinarian visits, buying the best food and spoiling Fido with kisses. You may even be fluent in your dog’s language (body language, that is).

But would you be prepared if the unthinkable happened? What would you do if you came home and your dog was struggling to breathe? Learning animal CPR is just as important as mastering CPR for humans, and today’s infographic shares all that you need to know. Start out by laying your dog on his or her right side on a flat surface, then put both hands over the heart and push about 1/3 of the way down. Do this at a rate of 100 to 120 pumps per minute.

Every 30 or so pumps, close your dog’s snout and breathe into your dog’s nose twice. Continue for ten to fifteen minutes or until your dog regains consciousness. It’s a good idea to take a trip to an emergency vet as well, because something serious could be going on. Hopefully, you will never have to perform CPR on your dog, but if there ever is a time your dog needs it, you could potentially save your dog’s life.

The Evolution of Black Panther From 1965 – Today

Halloween is months away, but we can probably all assume that there will be a lot of mini-Black Panthers roaming the streets and attempting to make panther noises.

But if you’re an adult and you want to become T’Challa on Halloween (or any day of the week), why not stand out from the crowd and incorporate the superhero’s past looks and vintage standouts?

You could go retro with the black, gray and yellow look from 1965, when the character of Black Panther was first created. But if you’ve seen the recent movie, you know the Black Panther doesn’t like to stand out. Your other options allow you to lay low. Perhaps a black and gray suit with a cape from 2005? All you need is some black bin liners, a gray shawl and the prowess of a wild cat, and you’ve basically got the costume down.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for the least amount of effort with the greatest impact, then going all black with silver highlights is the solution you’ve been looking for, and it dates back to 2016’s Civil War. You can either buy a black leotard, get your hands on some silver chalk and go to town, or sew the entire outfit yourself from. Just don’t attempt to take on any bad guys or hop on cars like he does in the movies.

This Engagement Ring Gem Is Cheaper & Stronger Than A Diamond

It’s common knowledge that diamond is the hardest naturally-occurring mineral on the planet, and it’s used in industrial cutting and drilling. However, there is another mineral that shares many properties with diamonds. This lesser-known mineral is called moissanite, and some people consider it better than diamonds.

Diamond was discovered millennia ago in India, while moissanite was discovered by French scientist Henri Moissan in the last 19th century. Moissanite’s lack of popularity may be partially attributed to how new it is — it’s younger than the telephone.

Though diamond is the hardest mineral, moissanite comes very close, being rated a 9 to 9.5 on the hardness scale, falling slightly short of diamond’s rating of 10.  However, it makes up for this by being far more heat resistant. It can withstand temperatures up to 1,800 degrees Celsius before it burns. Additionally, moissanite has a slightly higher refractive index rating than diamond, making it shinier than a diamond ring. Because the gem is rare, nearly all moissanite today is synthetic.

How does the price compare? Diamonds are a whopping eleven-and-a-half times more expensive than moissanite! So if you’re ever shopping for a hard, shiny, heat-resistant mineral, go with moissanite for the best deal. Thinking about buying a diamond ring for engagement? If so, you may want to do some more research before committing to an expensive piece of jewelry. Here are some things to think about before buying that ring.

10 Surprising Skills You Gain From Music Lessons

If music be the food of love, then play on. Most of us are familiar with the famous phrase, but what if music is also the food of education? If you’re looking to become well-rounded, music is a great way to do so.

It starts with picking up an instrument. Simply plucking at a guitar or tapping on the drums won’t necessarily prepare you for a life of psychological and economical success, but if you dedicate yourself to studying music, it can be invaluable.

Maybe you’re good at sports, or perhaps you’re ambidextrous. Taking a music lesson will improve both skills. Want to become a corporate pusher and mover with and impress your boss? Music lessons can help you with that, too. Want your child to learn languages easier and faster? Music lessons can also be a step in the right direction.

Granted, you may not pick things up immediately, and it’ll take hours of practice before you can consider yourself an advanced musician. But once you get it, you’ll be able to credit music lessons for a lot of other skills, too. Think of it as the long game, or a really, really long song with a staggering crescendo at the end.

This Is How Far One Hundred Dollars Will Go In Each State

How much is $100 worth to you? If you’re 8 years old and get $10 from your grandma on your birthday, $100 dollars would probably seem like winning the lottery. On the other hand, if you have three kids, $100 is nice, but it won’t change your life. Everyone values money differently, and where you live also determines how far a dollar goes.

New York and California, two of the largest states in the nation, are places where $100 doesn’t go very far, and Hawaii is even worse. If you’ve ever vacationed in Manhattan or Maui, you may have experienced sticker shock. But if a city is considered desirable and people begin to move there, prices will invariably rise. As a result, people pay more rent and companies likely pay higher salaries.

On the other side of the spectrum is Missouri, where $100 is worth about 16 percent more than average. That makes it much easier to go shopping in Missouri than Hawaii, where $100 is worth about $84!

Would you rather live somewhere trendy and have less disposable income, or settle somewhere less glamorous and be able to buy a bigger home? To help you make your decision, look at 30 houses you can buy with $500,000 across the U.S. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

This Psychological Concept Can Help Aspiring Writers

Archetype may sound like a complicated word, but the meaning is simple: Famous psychologist Carl Jung described archetypes as universal patterns that are familiar in all stories.

Jungian archetypes are behaviors and ways of understanding the world that are highly developed but that we aren’t immediately aware of. Their existence is deduced through the analysis of myth, art, dreams, stories, and religion. Basically, they’re everywhere — and even if you don’t speak another language, you’ll probably recognize archetypes in their art and culture.

Jung described archetypal events (like birth, death, marriage…) archetypal motifs (the apocalypse, the creation…) and archetypal figures (hero, caregiver, trickster…). But what does all of this mean for us today? It turns out that archetypes are still hugely significant, especially for aspiring writers.

Screenwriter Christopher Vogler took it a step further when he wrote The Writer’s Journey and proposed that Jung archetypal figures — typically used to describe character’s personalities — can be used to describe “influential forces” within a given narrative. From the Hero to the Herald to the Mentor, these personalities can not only serve as “characters” but also as ways to move a story ahead. Today’s infographic describes eight Jungian archetypes that can advance any story.

27 Delicious Protein Shake Recipes To Try ASAP

A protein shake is a great way to start off an early morning or prepare for a workout, but they don’t always taste great. Sometimes, they are too thick or they simply taste chalky. But worry not; your shake doesn’t have to taste like medicine! Here are 27 delicious and nutritious protein shake recipes you can add to your routine.

It doesn’t matter if you’re vegan, gluten-free, or soy-free, there’s a shake for you. Just look for the respective symbols next to the name on this infographic. Keep in mind, the kind of protein powder you use will affect the shake as well, since not all protein powders are made with diet intolerances in mind.

As an avid dessert enthusiast, I was drawn to the Strawberry Cheesecake shake immediately. Composed of strawberry or vanilla protein powder, strawberries, sour cream, graham crackers, and water, it’s a recipe that sounds like a great way to treat yourself after a day in the gym.

Another shake that caught my eye is the Orange Creamsicle, which is vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free. I’ve actually made a shake like this, minus the protein powder, and it was very tasty. All you need is protein powder, fresh OJ, orange zest, almond milk, vanilla extract and ice cubes. Give these recipes a try and even put your own twist on them to add some flavor to your life.
