Mr Local   Review

Star Cast : Sivakarthikeyan, Nayanthara, Radhika
Director : Rajesh

Tamil cinema’s love for mindless masala films continues with Mr Local, where plot takes the back seat and the film is packaged with two big stars, Sivakarthikeyan and Nayanthara and their image in mind.

Director Rajesh once again plays around a wafer thin story but thankfully manages to entertain to some extent. In fact, Sivakarthikeyan beats the three comedians in the film when it comes to humour.

The basic wafer-thin plot reminds you of ‘80s potboilers, and it is the repartee and conflict between the lead characters who are like chalk and cheese around which director Rajesh creates a plot. Manohar (Sivakarthikeyan) is a middle class youngster who works in a car showroom, and his life is all about friends (Sathish and Yogi Babu), loving mom (Radhika) and a sister (Harija).

Manohar meets KV Entertainment's MD Keerthana Vasudevan (Nayanthara) in a minor accident and they hate each other. It is their rivalry and fights which makes the movie engaging. Slowly, Manohar falls in love (!!)with Keerthana but the latter thinks that the romantic angle is a ploy of the former's family to swindle her money. Can Manohar win the heart of the adamant and headstrong Keerthana?

The film has its high and low points; the thin storyline actually tests your patience as there is nothing much happening on screen. The climax in Paris involving Narayan Lucky is too manipulative and lazily written. But what works in favour of the film is the comical treatment. Unlike Rajesh's recent films, this one scores decently in the comedy department.

Sivakarthikeyan is indeed the film’s biggest strength and it's his show all the way. Be it action, comedy, and dance, full marks to the entertainer inside him. Nayanthara is perfect as Keerthana and she shines. Among the three comedians, Sathish is the best. Robo Shankar is good but Yogi Babu fails to evoke laughter and is there just for the sake of being there!

Except Takkunu Takkunu, none of the songs of Hiphop Tamizha stays in your mind and his background score is below average. Dinesh Krishnan has provided colorful visuals and editor Vivek Harshan has done a neat job.

Overall, Mr. Local may appeal to people who love Sivakarthikeyan and mindless comedies!
