Bodhai Yeri Budhi Maari Review

Inspired by western stoner films, we recently got Bharath's Simba also featuring Premgi Amaran in an important role, the debutant director KR Chandru has tried to convey the adverse effects of drug usage without being too preachy in Bodhai Yeri Budhi Maari.
As the title suggests, the film is all about an innocent teetotaller Karthik (Dheeraj) who visits a friend a day before his wedding and lands in deep trouble. He accidentally snorts a potent drug and as a result, his life turns upside down. Karthik begins narrating how his life was so peaceful at a rehabilitation center, he was about to marry his childhood family friend (Dusshara). Things go well for Karthik until he gets a sudden phone call saying one of his close friends is no more. When he rushes to his friend's apartment, Karthik comes to know that it's a plan by his friends to celebrate his bachelor party. At the party, Karthik accidentally snorts on a powder which is more powerful than weed and cocaine!
In an adjacent flat, there is an honest journalist Brindha (Pradaini) who collects a lot of details regarding an underworld drug mafia. But the problem arises when she finds her boyfriend (Ajay), a corrupt police officer is in league with the kingpin behind the drug mafia. The rest of the film is all about Karthik who is on a high gets violent due to drug-infused weird imagination and hallucinations.
The idea conceived by director KR Chandru is interesting as a plot but the problem is that unimaginative writing and execution have made it a drag. Dusshara is adequate while the rest of the actors struggle to emote and they couldn't get into the skin of the character. As the film entirely depends on Dheeraj, his performance should have been the lifeline but he only gets a pass mark while the character demanded someone like a Vijay Devarakonda!
Another problem is that we couldn't buy the weird imagination of the protagonist in the film and it often tests our patience. Maybe, a better script and characterization would have made it believable. Noted Cinematographer Balasubramaniem's work is ok but from his experience, we expect better visual standards. Music by KP is a big plus point for the film, both his songs and background score are quite impressive.
Overall, Bodhai Yeri Buddhi Maari got a pretty interesting idea but because of the shallow execution and screenplay, the film ends up as an average watch.
