Kadaram Kondan Review

Star Cast : Vikram, Abi Haasan, Akshara Haasan
Director : Rajesh M Selva

It's been weeks since we saw a good stylish action thriller in Tamil- a genre that requires you to suspend disbelief and go along for the ride.. Director Rajesh M Selva's Kadaram Kondan delivers what it promised and the film works mainly due to the presentation, running time of 121 minutes and edge-of-the-seat moments. Generally, Vikram picks subjects which utilizes his acting potential but this film presents him as a stylish action hero and the film predominantly works because of his macho look and swag.

Like any good thriller film, Kadaram Kondan never reveals all its cards at once. KK (Vikram) is a wanted criminal in Malaysia and he gets stuck in a trap set by a corrupt cop and a greedy gangster. They want him to be dead but he somehow escapes due to an unexpected road accident and the unconscious KK who is taken to the hospital is saved by a junior doctor Vasu (Abi Hassan).

Now, Vasu and his pregnant wife Aathira (Akshara Hassan) are in danger. While Aathira is kidnapped, Vasu has to save KK and move him to a safe place. Can the innocent Vasu handle this extraordinary situation? Who is KK, why he is he wanted by cops and goons? Watch the film to know more...

As Kadaram Kondan is an official remake of Point Blank (French), the treatment looks alien for a Tamil cinema but having said that, the film works as a racy thriller with adrenaline rushing action scenes, constantly moving frames and pulsating music (Ghibran).

KK is a cakewalk role for Vikram. He is the impeccably styled and he simply steals the show with his powerful screen presence and baritone voice. More than performance, the film is all about his majestic walk, style, and swag, needless to say, he pulls it off with great ease and flamboyance.

Abi Haasan is a promising find, the actor looks handsome and emotes well for a newcomer. Akshara Haasan has also done a neat job, the pre-climax fight between her and a female cop must have been a demanding one. One major drawback is that there are plenty of cinematic logical loopholes, the sudden riot at the police station looks very convenient and a lot of questions arise when KK easily escapes from the villains and intelligent cops.

Overall, Kadaram Kondan is a stylish action thriller which justifies the genre mainly because of the top-notch technicalities, earnest performances of the young pair (Abi and Akshara) and of course, our macho man Vikram. Go watch it, you won’t be disappointed.
