Agni Devi Review

Star Cast : Bobby Simha, Madhoo, Sathish, Ramya Nambeesan
Director : JPR & Sham Surya

The story of Agni Devi is inspired by Rajesh Kumar’s novel. Just like any other works of the writer, the film has a couple of medical terms behind the murders and a few twists and turns.

Interestingly, ‘Karunthel’ Rajesh, the popular script doctor has penned the additional dialogues. But despite such promising names, Agni Devi is a torturous watch. The one and only solace in the film is Madhoo’s performance, the actress who is known for her cute face and demure looks has come out of the comfort zone to play a politician with shades of grey.

Agni (Bobby Simha) is an upright cop. A journalist who was supposed to interview him gets mysteriously murdered. When Agni starts investigating the murder, he finds that his case is directly linked with the recent assassination of a Central Minister in Haryana. As Agni goes deep into the case it leads him to the Tamil Nadu Home Minister Sakunthala Devi (Madhoo). But Agni’s superior officers arrests an innocent young man in the journalist murder case. Can Agni put the mighty Sakunthala Devi behind bars?

The first thing which irritates us in the film is that someone else has dubbed for Bobby Simha and we also get to see his face morphed in few action scenes. In another fight scene, the actor's face is conveniently covered by a sack. Agni Devi largely relies on the characterisation of Madhoo which resembles the combination of two popular real-life politicians.

Audiences who have seen Madhoo in classy roles is in for a surprise! But her performance alone cannot save the film as it has several logical loopholes and the end twist is not at all convincing.

Sathish seems to have lost his form, as he is plainly annoying. The talented Ramya Nambeesan appears in four scenes and her role is as important as a junior artist!
