Tughlaq Durbar  Review

Star Cast : Vijay Sethupathi, Sathyaraj, Parthiepan, Manjima, Raashi Khanna
Director : Delhi Prasad Dheenadayalan

Debutant filmmaker Delhi Prasad Deenadayalan's Tughlaq Durbar is a comic caper inspired by Sathyaraj and Manivannan's political satire Amaidhi Padai. But instead of two Sathyarajs', we have two Vijay Sethupathis' in one Vijay Sethupathi! To be precise, what happens if a baddie's alter ego(good guy) often appears and leads him to a noble path!

Rayappan(Parthiepan) is a selfish politician who sorrys the blood of the working community and enjoys his power and money on a lavish lifestyle. Singaravelan(Vijay Sethupathi) who was christened by Rayappan slowly grabs his attention, enters the political party, pushes down the seniors, and climbs up the ladder to even become a big threat to Rayappan himself. Though the constant cat and mouse game between Singaravelan and Rayappan is entertaining, the biggest highlight of Tughlaq Durbar is the battle of Vijay Sethupathi with his alter ego!

Director Delhi Prasad has used this concept and delivered a fairly engaging political satire borrowed from Amaidhi Padai. He rightly included Sathyaraj in the climax and paid a tribute to the classic hit!

Vijay Sethupathi is in the Soodhu Kavvum zone in this entertainer, his emotional breakdown with himself by breaking the mirror and scolding his alter ego talks volumes about his potential as an actor. Parthiepan is at his comical best, his wordplay and humor come in handy for the film. Manjima Mohan doesn't have many dialogues in the film, she plays a calm and homely sister to Sethupathi. Raashi Khanna looks bubbly and pretty throughout while Bucks aka Baghavathy Perumal has also done a neat job. The initial episodes between Sethupathi and Bucks are hilarious.

Technically, Govind Vasantha's songs and background score are just perfect. Cinematographers Manoj Paramahamsa and Mahendra Jayaraj have done a good job. A few scenes in the second half could be trimmed to make the film more engaging. The last few minutes of conversation between Vijay Sethupathi and Sathyaraj is sure to bring the roof down.
