Oh Manapenne  Review

Star Cast : Harish Kalyan, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Venu Aravind
Director : Kaarthikk Sundar

Debutant director Kaarthikk Sundar's Oh Manapenne is a faithful remake of the breezy Telugu film Pelli Choopulu. Kaarthikk has retained the essence of the original and has done minor changes in the characterizations of the protagonists, which has given a fresh color to the film although you know the proceedings and how the film is going to end!

Karthik (Harish Kalyan) is a carefree youngster who has a namesake engineering degree but if there is something he is passionate about, it's cooking! Then, there is Shruti(Priya Bhavani Shankar), a sensible MBA Gold Medalist, who wants to become an entrepreneur but her boyfriend/ business partner ditches her. The parents of Karthik and Shruti feel that only marriage can change their course of life! But during the matchmaking event, Karthik who was supposed to meet another girl comes to Shruti's house. The accidental meet and chat help them to know each other that they not only become business partners but also ends up falling in love with each other!

As said earlier, the minor changes in the characterizations of the protagonists have given a fresh tone to the film. For example, in the original, Vijay Devarakonda wasn't good at cooking from the beginning but here Harish Kalyan is passionate about food although he is not sincere. Compared to the original, Priya's character is more mature that she carries her failure in love throughout despite all the smiles and happiness. These minor changes have helped the film. Otherwise, most of the scenes of the original have been retained here.

Harish Kalyan looks super smart and handsome, the actor also emotes well. If he continues to pick the right scripts, Harish could fill the good-looking talented stars like Madhavan and Arvind Swamy! Priya Bhavani Shankar has done a good job, especially in the emotionally demanding scenes although she looks more mature for the character. Venu Aravind who plays Harish's dad steals the show and the two friends of Harish have also done neat work.

Technically, Krishnan Vasant rightly captured the lovely chemistry between Harish and Kalyan, the way picturized the food tempts us! Vishal Chandrasekhar's music is the lifeline of the film, his songs and score have helped the film big time.

To conclude, Oh Manapenne team has replicated the magic of the original in their own way!
