Nibunan Review

Investigative officer Ranjith Kalidoss (Arjun) and his team consisting of Joseph (Prasanna) and Vandana (Varalakshmi) get a strange packet to their office. After bomb squad’s intervention, they find that the box has a doll covered by a blood stained shirt and an animal masked face.
Ranjith and team first think that the doll is just a prank from someone but when they enter into a crime scene of the murder of a political leader, they begin to realize that doll was a hint. After the political leader, two more people- a doctor and a lawyer lose their lives in the same fashion and connecting the dots, Ranjith says that he is the fourth target for the serial killer. Who is the psycho killer? What’s his motivation? Watch Nibunan on the big screen to know more.
One major positive aspect of Nibunan is the characterization of Arjun, as the director has nicely explored the family and friendship side of the cop. Scenes with Sruti Hariharan are a bit overboard but the Parkinson’s disease angle is an interesting idea. However, Arun could’ve worked better in scenes where Arjun and subordinates solve the murder mystery, as things look easy and convenient for them.
Arjun looks stylish and delivered a subtle performance comparing to his previous films. After Nibunan, Sruthi Hariharan might get a lot of offers for the homely upper middle-class wife characters in Tamil. The rest of the actors including Prasanna (looks fit) and Varalakshmi have done a decent job. Wonder why Vaibhav was apart of the film?
Arvind Krishna’s cinematography is a big plus for Nibunan whereas music by Navin could’ve been better, especially the background score. Overall, Nibunan is a watchable whodunit thriller with elements to satisfy its target audiences.
