Bunions Make Walking Extremely Uncomfortable, And There Is Only One Thing You Can Do To Prevent Them

Bunion is a bony bump that forms around the joint connecting the big toe to the foot. It develops when the big toe pushes against the second toe. The joint of the big toe becomes larger and starts to stick out.

Tight-fitting shoes may lead to the development of bunions or make already existing ones worse. Bunions may also result from the hereditary structural defect of the foot, pressure on the foot, or a condition like arthritis.

Symptoms of a bunion are the following:

>> a swollen bump around your big toe joint;
>> skin around the bump is red and sore;
>> calluses or corns;
>> constant or intermittent pain;
>> limited movement of the big toe (in case of arthritis).

You should see a doctor if you experience the following:

>> constant pain in the big toe or foot;
>> an enlarged bump on the big toe joint;
>> limited movement of the big toe or foot;
>>you can’t find fitting shoes because the bunion is too large.

Experts aren’t sure about the causes of the condition, but the factors that are thought to contribute to the development of bunions are:

>> hereditary foot structure;
>> foot injury;
>> inborn defect.

It’s still unclear whether tight shoes and shoes on high heels cause bunions or only contribute to their development. There may also be a connection with rheumatoid arthritis.

Risk factors include:

>> wearing high heels and/or unfitting shoes;
>> rheumatoid arthritis;
>> family history of the condition.

To prevent the formation of bunions, there’s only one thing you can do: wear comfortable shoes.
