Meyaadha Maan Review

Star Cast : Vaibhav, Priya Bhavanishankar, Vivek Prasanna, Indhuja
Director : Rathna Kumar

We have seen several Tamil films featuring heroes glorifying the one-sided love. If you read the basic plot of Meyaadha Maan, it’s a cliched film about a timid guy who falls in love with a beautiful girl but doesn’t have the courage to convey his feelings to her. But debutant director Rathna Kumar’s lively writing hooks us and we are able to easily relate to his characters.

Murali (Vaibhav, friends call him ‘Idhayam’ Murali) is about to commit suicide on the engagement day of his lady love and call his friends Vinoth (Vivek Prasanna) and Kishore (Arun Prasath) before ending up his life. The two friends immediately rush to Murali’s lover Madhumitha’s (Priya Bhavanishankar) house and ask her to degrade the love of Murali over the phone, which actually works that our hero puts a full stop to his suicide plan and decides to enjoys his life to the fullest. But after one year, situations bring both Murali and Madhu closer, they even fall in love but will their story have a happy ending?

Despite a routine story, what really works for 'Meyaadha Maaan' is the realistic writing and good performances of its lead actors. Vaibhav his given his career best in Meyaadha Maan, his body language, dialogue delivery, expressions, and mannerisms are top notch. Vivek Prasanna (best known as Vikram Vedha drug lord) is a revelation as the friend of Vaibhav in the film, he can be easily termed as the second lead in the film. More than heroine Priya Bhavanishankar (who looks cute), Indhuja, who played as Vaibhav’s sister is a great find and her performance looks effortless and lively on big screen.

On the downside, the film’s duration is too long and the team could have trimmed it by 10 to 15 minutes but other than that there is no major flaw. Pradeep and Santhosh Narayanan’s music is a big strength to the film whereas Vidhyu Ayyanna visuals too add the aesthetic value for a story which is set in ordinary locales of North Chennai.

Overall, Meyaadha Maan is a well-written rom-com that works because of the brilliant performance of the lead actors.
