Aval Review

Star Cast : Siddharth, Andrea, Atul Kulkarni
Director : Milind Rau

Horror thrillers are the evergreen money-spinner all over the world. And in Tamil cinema, directors prefer horror comedies than thrillers. It is very to rare to see an Indian horror thriller with Hollywood standards and good jump scares. Kudos to director Milind Rau who has pulled it off to some extent.

Krish (Siddharth), a doctor and his homemaker wife Lakshmi (Andrea) lead a happy life in the hilly locales of Himalayas. Everything goes well until Paul's (Atul Kulkarni) family buys the neighboring house and moves in. Paul 's elder daughter Jenny starts witnessing paranormal activities and slowly everyone in the family is terrorized by strange happenings and visions of dead people. So who is the deadly ghosts who haunts Paul's house and Jenny? Watch Aval to know more...

The first half is chilling and  the big relief is that there are no duets or silly comedy. The romance and chemistry between Siddharth and Andrea is lively. The horror angle is also intelligently woven  but the back story and the way it unwinds turns cliched with explicit torture and killings. After all in horror-genre the template has to be the same!

After a long gap, Siddharth is back and he is good. The actor absolutely shows no inhibition in the climax, which is a revelation. Andrea is perfect as Lakshmi and it is a cake walk role for her. But the real show stealer is Anisha Angelina Victor, who comes as Atul Kulkarni's elder daughter in the film, especially her performance in the interval block is mind blowing!

.

Technically, the film stands one step higher than our regular horror films. Be it the superb locations, cinematography, music and writing. It’s just same old story but if you are a fan of horror thrillers go ahead and watch it. It will definitely keep you on the edge of the seat.
