A modern woman strives for beauty all the time. For this reason, women tend to get rid of the hair on their bodies because it is considered unaesthetic these days. Every lady’s beauty rituals include taking care of leg, armpit and bikini zone skin. Some people choose shaving for hair removal, some prefer waxing, while others use the services of cosmetologists and periodically undergo a depilation procedure.

Beauty requires sacrifice, so women tolerate many inconveniences; for example, small cuts of the razor or unpleasant sensations when pulling hairs. Although hair removal is a normal phenomenon in our times, doctors emphasize the fact that the natural hair cover is important for maintaining health. It is a protective barrier that women should not get rid of.

According to one study, 76% of Americans (66.5% of men and 85.3% of women) regularly remove unwanted hair to feel more attractive and confident. However, gynecologists do not advise getting rid of pubic hair completely, in view of anatomical features of a female body. Below are 5 reasons why women should not remove all the hair in their bikini zone.

1. Protection against germs
Pubic hair protects the skin surface from different germs. Dense underwear, tight clothing, as well as increased humidity and insufficient ventilation often create favorable conditions for their rapid reproduction.

2. Protection against micro-injuries
Not everybody knows that the skin in the bikini zone is very fragile and sensitive. This is another reason why it is so susceptible to various irritations. Removing hair, especially with a razor, is always associated with a risk of micro-cuts. Unlike other wounds, such as finger cuts, these tiny injuries in the bikini zone heal more slowly. Another advantage of refusing hair removal procedures is that you will no longer have to face the problem of ingrowing hair, which, in turn, will reduce the probability of local inflammations.

3. Reducing the risk of STDs
Experts believe that the probability of contracting certain sexually transmitted diseases (for example, gonorrhea, herpes or chlamydia) is much higher for women who completely depilate the bikini zone. This is due to more intense friction during sexual contact with a partner, which can cause micro-damage to the skin. The presence of pubic hair is not a 100% guarantee of protection against STDs, but it is an additional buffer that reduces the risk of infection together with barrier contraceptives.

4. Sensation of purity
Many women prefer to remove the hair in the bikini zone because they mistakenly believe it will help to keep the feeling of freshness longer. Everything is actually the opposite — the hair prevents pathogenic and opportunistic bacteria from entering  the vagina directly. This means that pubic hair helps maintain normal conditions for the development of a healthy microflora that does not cause unpleasant odors.

5. Protection against cold
It may sound strange but pubic hair provides an additional protection for a woman’s genitalia from low temperatures. The health of the reproductive system is very fragile, and inflammatory processes of the reproductive organs can be not only protracted and accompanied by unpleasant sensations, but they also have an adverse effect on a woman’s ability to conceive and the normal course of pregnancy.

The aesthetic attractiveness of a hairless bikini zone is related to a woman’s feeling of self-confidence. It is worth noting, however, that nature is genius, and pubic hair has other functions rather than visual.

In the end, the decision to remove pubic hair or not is a personal matter. Nevertheless, gynecologists and urologists advise against shaving, waxing and laser hair removal in favor of simple hair cutting. It is a simple procedure that can be done at home. You can cut the hair in your bikini zone with manicure scissors and a fine-toothed comb. If you have a solid reason for shaving your pubic hair (for example, you are planning a trip to the beach), it is recommended that you use a new razor each time and pre-soften the hairs with the help of warm water so they will be more evenly cut.

A woman’s health is much more important than the beauty of the bikini zone. Of course, it is each woman’s own choice, but it is important to keep in mind that there are objective reasons for preserving this natural protective hair cover. Intimate haircuts are an excellent alternative to full depilation.
