Sei Review

Star Cast : Nakkul, Aanchal, Thalaivasal Vijay, Nassar, Prakash Raj
Director : Raj Babu

Malayalam filmmaker Raj Babu’s debut Tamil film Sei is yet another average film which has the potential for an engaging commercial entertainer but falls flat due to convenient writing and lifeless characters.

The film opens with a fire accident at a mental asylum and thirty innocent mentally challenged people lose their lives in the unfortunate incident. While media and politicians blame minister Rajarathinam (Thalaivasal Vijay) and demand his resignation, he gets to know through a crime reporter that the accident is a planned attack by an organ trafficking mafia. Before the minister could react to the incident, he gets murdered. Meanwhile, there is an aspiring actor Saravedi Saravanan (Nakkul) who is being closely followed by a scriptwriter Neena (Aanchal Munjal) as his character appears interesting.

Saravanan’s dad, an ambulance driver always blames him for being irresponsible. But on knowing about his father's sudden heart- attack, Saravanan takes up the duty of driving the ambulance to a hill station carrying a deceased man and his relatives. However, while reaching the destination, Saravanan understands that the deceased man is a crime reporter and the people in the ambulance are planning to hide his murder. The rest of the film is all about how Saravanan uses the evidence stored in the mobile phone of the crime reporter to unmask the organ trafficking mafia...

As you read the plot, we have to agree this is more than sufficient for an engaging commercial film but the problem with Sei is that the makers seem to have spent a bomb for the glossy cinematography and music but they missed out big time in the writing department. None of the characters stay in our minds and the writing is so convenient that the twists and turns look convoluted.

Nakkul is, as usual, is over-enthusiastic and tries to fit in the happy-go-lucky character. Heroine Aanchal doesn’t have much scope and even veterans like Nassar and Prakash Raj couldn’t bring anything effective to the table, thanks to the poor characterization.

Two things which are impressive about Sei are the works of cinematographer Vijay Ulaganathan and music composer Nyx Lopez. Otherwise, Sei is yet another average action entertainer which can be watched if you have no other option for entertainment.
