Padmaavat  Review

Star Cast : Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor
Director : Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Padmaavat is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s artistic masterpiece. The film equally portrays the pride of Rajputs and the power thrust of Khiljis without hurting anyone's sentiments. While the poignant writing must be definitely appreciated, the apt casting is another reason for the magic. Although Ranveer Singh owns the film with his monstrous performance, Deepika and Shahid too shine with their majestic characterizations.

Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) wants to own all the rare things in the world. From the precious gems to beautiful women, nothing can escape from the sharp eyes of Alauddin, who also enjoys life to the fullest. He has great taste for music, food, war, power, perfume, and women.

Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) is an ethereal beauty from Sinhala, she gets married to the regal Rajput King Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor). Padmavati is the ideal woman that any men would be attracted to, she can think independently but at the same time, respect her culture and tradition. In short, Padmavati is the epitome of feminism and Ratan Singh is the most righteous man you would ever come across, he knows how to respect women and treats even his enemies with dignity.

What would happen if the ambitious Alauddin gets to know that Padmavati is the most beautiful woman in the world? As you rightly guessed, Alauddin proposes a war to snatch Padmavati from Ratan Singh.
Padmaavat has a lot of scope for unrealistic glorification but Sanjay Leela Bhansali treats the plot with realism. Alauddin might look like a devil but our heart goes to him in many scenes. You wouldn’t want him to have a shameful death and might even actually care for him. Alauddin is the perfect role model for someone who always wants to come out victorious in whatever they do. While Padmavati belongs to Ratan Singh, Padmaavat belongs to Ranveer Singh, the way he carries the eccentric Alauddin is impeccable and he is indeed the lifeline of the film.

Padmavati listens to her husband and performs all the duties but when the time comes, she knows what exactly should be done. The entire screenplay depends on Deepika, she is the driving force of the film and her majestic walk in the climax speaks volumes about her acting prowess. Throughout the film, you might feel Shahid Kapoor does not have much to do but his characterization elevates the pride of Rajputs, he brings life to his role.

Padmaavat has raised the bars in terms of cinematography, music and production design, the film has authentically registered the richness of Rajput Kingdom, the lifestyle of Khiljis and their practices. Though the film’s runtime is 163 minutes, it engages you from the start to the end. Special mention to the team who is in charge for the Tamil dubbing, they have done a brilliant job and in fact, we slowly begin to feel as if we are watching a direct Tamil film.

Overall, Padmaavat is a must watch and movie lovers shouldn’t miss it at any cost.
