Abhiyum Anuvum

Sema Review

Star Cast : Tovino Thomas, Pia Bajpai, Rohini, Suhasini
Director : BR Vijayalakshmi

Director BR Vijayalakshmi’s bilingualAbhiyum Anuvum (Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum in Malayalam), has tried to present an emotional drama by raising a valuable question on our social and moral ethics, but sadly the treatment is shallow and lacks focus or finesse.

Abhi aka Abhimanyu (Tovino Thomas) is a software professional who gets attracted by the Facebook posts of Anu (Pia Bajpai) and falls in love with her. Though Abhi fails in his first attempt to woo Anu, he eventually gets her and subsequently, both of them decided to marry without informing their parents.

The twists are unpredictable but it is not enough to emotionally move us.

The director's intentions were honest but the complicated story about love, relationships, surrogacy, incest, is not gripping or engaging. Tovino is wasted and he looks uncomfortable and struggles to speak in Tamil. Pia is annoying and is a miscast.

Veterans Prabhu, Rohini and Suhasini have given their best. Cinematography by Akilan is functional and music is average.

BR Vijayakalakshmi’s core idea in Abhiyum Anuvum is really interesting but the overall execution falls flat that the film  ends as an average romantic drama.
