Thala Ajith and his favourite director Siva are back again with Viswasam which is actually the extension of their most enjoyable commercial potboiler Veeram. Treatment is Siva's forte and that is what makes this film tick with the audiences, despite the absence of an original plot. Here, Siva has the most dependable Nayanthara in a strong female lead role along with a wonderful child artist Anikha to make the film appeal to family audiences.
Thooku Durai (Ajith) is an innocent, uneducated, brave man who is loved and respected in Madurai district. When a doctor Niranjana (Nayanthara) comes to Durai's village, he falls in love with her and they get married. Just when Niranjana delivers a a baby girl Swetha (Anikha), she finds that Durai's behavior and life will affect her daughter's life and future. A disappointed Niranjana moves to Mumbai and the couple gets separated for ten years. However, situation reunites them and there is a villain (Jagapathi Babu) who tries to murder Swetha...
Siva has packaged the first half as a family drama. Except for the interval fight (which is for fans) , the major portions of the first half will be loved by the family audiences. Slowly, the director also places enough elements to satisfy Thala Ajith’s fans with superb action scenes, mass punch lines, comedy and songs.
Ajith is endearing and is in tremendous form that the actor looks super energetic as Thooku Durai. He does tend to ham in the dramatic scenes but looks very comfortable doing comedy and those romantic scenes. Nayanthara as the head-strong and bold Niranjana is a perfect cast. She looks beautiful as usual and her make-up and styling is superb. The comedy battalions Yogi Babu, Robo Shankar, Vivek and Thambi Ramaiah provide constant laughter throughout. Jagapathi Babu’s character is poorly written and he is a weak antagonist.
While Viswasam is an engaging entertainer, it tests your patience with a predictable climax and screenplay. Technically Imman's songs are good and he shines in the background score department. Ruben's cuts are razor sharp and the duration is just perfect for a mass family entertainer.
The good looking lead pair, magnificently choreographed songs, razzle dazzle of colours/style/design, appropriate dosage of humour and ritzy production values are major plus. Viswasam is a pucca family entertainer for this Pongal festival. Go and enjoy with your family!
