5 Health Or Lifestyle Issues That May Cause Dry Mouth
« on: November 15, 2017, 01:15:33 PM »
Most of us will have had a problem with a dry mouth at least once in our lives. It happens from time to time and the causes of this phenomenon, called xerostomia, can vary. It can affect not only the lips, but also the mouth and throat, and can result in a terrible thirst. So, what causes it?

1. Lack of hydration
Lack of saliva is one of the primary causes of the problem. When you get older, the salivary glands may not function properly. As a result, hydration declines and more water is needed.

2. Lifestyle
In addition to the amount of water you consume, things can greatly depend on your daily habits. For example, if you drink alcohol often, it will dehydrate your body. In general, you should drink about 1.5 liters of water a day. If you drink less, it can cause dehydration throughout your body.

3. Medications
Some medications can also cause a dry mouth and dehydrate the body in general. This includes analgesics, antidepressants and antihistamines. It is for this reason that doctors generally advise you to consume a lot of water when these medications are prescribed.

4. Chronic diseases Certain chronic diseases such as diabetes, kidney disease and HIV can also cause dry mouth.

5. Anxiety
This may seem surprising, but anxiety can cause temporary dryness. To avoid this, drink more, relax and moisturize your body.

Take good care of your health, drink more water and watch out for symptoms that may occur at home
