Boomika Review

Star Cast : Aishwarya Rajesh, Vidhu, Surya Ganapathy, Madhuri
Director : Rathindran Prasad

Director Rathindran Prasad's official debut Inmai, an episode of the Navarasa anthology earned positive accolades so, the expectations were quite good for his debut feature film Boomika (his long-delayed feature Idhu Vedhalam Sollum Kadhai is yet to release).

Boomika begins well with an interesting premise and a much-needed message at a time when the entire world is suffering due to global warming and other environmental hazards but it suffers due to the preachy tone!

Gautham (Vidhu), his wife Samyuktha (Aishwarya Rajesh, a psychologist), and their son arrive at a hill station to work on a lucrative real estate contract for a politician. Very soon, just like any other horror thriller, the main characters of the film begin to experience supernatural activities. So, who is behind this eerie experience? Watch the film to know more...

The horror elements we see in the film are predictable and do not offer anything new. Aishwarya Rajesh's performance is as flawless and she shines throughout, the message which Rathindran handles in Boomika is noble and some of the dialogues are hard-hitting but as said earlier, after a point, things become preachy. The performances of the other actors are just average.

Technically, Roberto Zazzara's cinematography looks elegant and the overall look and feel of the film are also aesthetic. Rathindran Prasad has handled a complex theme with innovative concepts and a noble message. The hard work of the director is evident but we wish the screenplay could've been more engaging. The first half of the film has some interesting moments but as the film progresses, the screenplay falls flat and there is nothing much to rave about the content post the intermission as things are getting repetitive.

To conclude, Boomika is an average horror thriller with a noble message.
