Doctor  Review

Star Cast : Sivakarthikeyan, Priyanka, Vinay, Yogi Babu, Redin Kinsley, Archana
Director : Nelson

Director Nelson Dhilipkumar's Doctor is a dark comedy and the treatment is on the lines of Guy Ritchie's films and the look and feel of the film seems to be inspired by the Spanish series and thrillers. But what works in favor of the film is the constant laughter that Nelson produces with the help of his wacky comic one-liners from his comedy battalion. Sivakarthiyean owns the film with his subtle expression and robotic mannerisms that is something fresh when compared to his hyper-energetic screen presence!

Varun(Sivakarthikeyan) is an army doctor whose character gets established in the very first scene as someone who wants to be practical in life. But the same quality affects his potential marriage with Padmini (Priyanka Arul Mohan) who rejects him. When Varun meets her family to know about the sudden rejection, Padmini's niece Chinnu goes missing.

As cops see it as one of the routine kidnap cases, Varun sketches a plan to find the missing girl, he also seeks the help of the family consisting of innocent folks. In the process, they find that multiple young girls are kidnapped and there is a dangerous human trafficking mafia that operates from Goa. Can Varun along with the family members of his ex-fiance and a few petty criminals win the battle against the dangerous mafia?

The first half of the film is thoroughly enjoyable and it's refreshing to see Sivakarthikeyan in a subtle character but he pulls it off with great elan and also brings in laughter within the dark humor zone. Varun is not the cup of tea for Siva but still, he makes it delicious for us thanks to Nelson's strong characterization. Priyanka doesn't have a strong role but she looks cute and also contributes to the comedy department along with an ensemble of actors including Archana, Ilavarsu, Sunil, Yogi Babu, Deepa, Redin Kinsley, and others.

Vinay introduces as a strong antagonist but only on the paper, he easily gets cheated by Sivakarthikeyan and the entire episode is not brainy like the sequences in the first half. The second half of the film drags due to the average execution but what saves Doctor is the wacky one-liners delivered by the talented comedians. Doctor is also packaged like Kolamaavu Kokila, Nelson's first film where the protagonist takes up crime for a good cause.

Technically, Vijay Karthik Kannan's visuals are perfect for the dark humor film, the color tones remind us of the Spanish thrillers. Music by Anirudh is another biggest strength of the film although there are only three songs. The music composer elevates the film with his efficient background score.

We wish, the second half is as effective as the first half. Nevertheless, Doctor is an enjoyable film and it's refreshing in many aspects.
