Chakra Review

Star Cast : Vishal, Shraddha Srinath, Regina Cassandra
Director : MS Anandhan

Vishal's Chakra has tried to replicate the Irumbuthirai magic by establishing an unknown mastermind and how the fearless protagonist Chandru (Vishal), an army man unmasks the criminal.

The film opens with fifty random robberies in various parts of Chennai city on August 15 (Independence Day). The entire police force is in search of the two masked robbers who target the homes of senior citizens. The criminals also loot the Ashok Chakra, the pride of Chandru (Vishal)'s family. The case gets transferred to the IPS officer Gayathri (Shraddha Srinath), the romantic interest of Chandru. The rest of the film is all about how Chandru and Gayathri find the team behind the notorious crime in the city.

Director Anandan has tried to give a racy look and feel to the film with the fast edit pattern. However, most of the scenes are predictable. Unlike, Irumbuthirai, here the antagonist is not powerful. The backstory lacks emotional connect and the only solace is the constant cat and mouse game between cops and the robbers.

As usual, Vishal shines in the action department. But there are plenty of logical loopholes that we are unable to believe how an army officer can lead the investigation unit. Why does an IPS officer take the backseat and even the Commissioner of Police acts as per the instructions of a mere army man who passes the order to all the cops? The film would've been the same even without Shraddha Srinath. No idea why there should be a romantic interest for the hero in the film?

Technically, the background score of Yuvan Shankar Raja and visuals of Balasubramaniam are average. MS Anandan's dialogues on Digital India and how the current generation losing their privacy through mobile phones and online shopping are done and dusted in Irumbuthirai so, nothing is exciting here. Robo Shankar is another needless torture in the film, his one-liners neither evoke laughter nor interest us.

Overall, Chakra is an average action thriller.
