Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen Review

Director : Ezhil
Star Cast : Udhayanidhi, Soori, Regina, Yogi Babu, Mansoor Ali Khan, Srushti Dagen

Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen is a typical formulaic comedy entertainer from director Ezhil. The film has a wafer-thin storyline filled with crass comic sequence which relies on a bunch of comedians for the screenplay proceedings. Though the first half of the film works to a certain extent, the second half completely falls flat that none of the comedy scenes bring laughter.

Saravanan (Udhay) is a carefree youngster, who doesn’t have any big aim in life but when his uncle Kalyanam (Soori) becomes the head of a newly formed National Political Party, he agrees to attract more members. However, due to a drunkard photographer, Saravanan becomes the Tamil Nadu head of the political party and they send Kalyanam (Soori) to Dubai as a local politician Veera Singam (Mansoor Ali Khan) is in search for him. Meanwhile, Saravanan meets her childhood friend Then Mozhi (Regina Cassandra) and falls in love with her but the latter still remembers an age old ego clash and refuses to marry him.

To Saravanan’s luck, his dead friend Fathima (Srushti Dange) comes as a great help (!!) and how she unites him with Then Mozhi forms the rest of the story…

The biggest problem of Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen is not the predictable screenplay, we exactly know what Ezhil is capable of, his last film Velainu Vandhutta Velaikkaran is not a revolutionary script but what really worked is the genuinely worked funny moments. Unfortunately, Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen tries too hard to be funny that at many times, lazily written comic scenes in the film only tests our patience and ends up as a tiresome watch.

Udhayanidhi Stalin looks super confident, his comic timing is quite good and also dances with great ease, he has also convincingly pulled off the action sequences. Regina is at her glamorous best in Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen, especially in the "Embuttu Irukkuthu Aasai" number. The much hyped funny one-liners of Soori didn’t work and it would have been great if Ezhil used Yogi Babu more as his portions comparatively worked better. The rest of the comedians including Mansoor Ali Khan, Chams and Madhumitha fail to attract us.

Imman’s two songs- "Lala Kadai Santhi" and "Embuttu Irukkuthu" are a delight to watch and listen while his background score is strictly functional. KG Venkatesh’s cinematography is impressive for a routine entertainer but despite the crisp running time (125 minutes), the film appears a tad too long due to several boring moments.

Overall, Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen is a mundane comedy entertainer, which is enjoyable only in parts.
