Podhuvaga Emmanasu Thangam Review

Debutant director Thalapathy Prabhu has tried to follow the success formula of his guru Ponram in Podhuvaga Emmanasu Thangam (PET).
The film is a cat and mouse game between carefree youngster Ganesh (Udhayanidhi) and neighboring village's influential businessman Oothukettan (Parthiepan) a cunning guy who loves to become becomes famous among the villagers.
It's clearly evident that Thalapathy slightly altered the story and characters of Varudhapadatha Valibar Sangam(VVS) with Udhay and Parthiepan in place of Sivakarthikeyan and Sathyaraj. Just like Sri Divya in VVS, here too the hero falls in love with the egoistic villain's daughter Leela (Nivetha Pethuraj).
Despite the regular story line what really works in favour of the film is the comic portions involving Soori and Udhay. Parthiepan too attracts us with his trademark witty one liners. It can be called a typical rural comedy which is lapped up in B and C stations.
Compared to his previous film Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen, Udhay looks much more confident and scores in comedy scenes. Nivetha looks pretty in pavadai-dhavani but she has hardly any role. Comedian Soori is in tremendous form in his home ground, rural background and his portions bring the roof down.
Imman's Ammani song is quite catchy while the background score is just adequate and Balasubramaniam entices us with his sleek visuals. On the downside the film is predictable at every turn and is a bit too long at 2 hours 20 minutes.
To conclude, Podhuvaga Emmanasu Thangam is not unique but ends up as a watchable film entertaining the target audiences with comedy gags.
