Vivegam  Review

Star Cast : Ajith, Kajal, Akshara Haasan, Karunakaran
Director : Siva

After exploring brother and sister sentiments in Veeram and Vedalam, director Siva has used the bond between husband and wife in Vivegam set against an international spy agency milieu. Ajith is a secret agent in this non-stop action film.

Ajay Kumar (Ajith), an upright counter terrorism officer is on the run as his close friend Aaryan (Vivek Oberoi) from the squad betrays him with a deceiving plan. Wounded AK bounces back by overcoming all difficulties for his wife and soon to be born baby but his rage will settle only after finishing off the revenge battle.

It's Thala Ajith’s show all the way, the actor looks deadly and he is in top form in pulling off the physically demanding high octane action sequences. Though Akshara's intro is the high point in Vivegam, her role is limited and she shines.

Kajal's characterization sparkles initially but post – interval it turns out to be clichéd. Especially in the climax, the confidence boosting song to the husband is unintentionally hilarious. Vivek Oberoi is another stereotypical villain, who couldn't do much other than being a caricature. Although Karunakaran's portions are limited, he provides the much needed comic relief in a film filled with an array of action blocks.

The biggest strength of Vivegam is the superbly executed action sequences; especially the long bike stunt episode is top notch. The interval block has been shot in a stunning manner. However, the dialogues sound too artificial and after a point of time, scenes start looking like a dubbed Hollywood film with a usual South Indian action masala flavor.

Vivegam is visually stunning; thanks to Vetri's brilliant cinematography and the production values are on par with Hollywood standards. Anirudh's background score and songs have great recall value and elevate the film to another level.

Overall, Vivegam is a treat to Thala fans but for general audiences, it ends up as a watchable action thriller for the strenuous effort the team had made in making it look stylish.
