Starting an article with “When I was your age” or “Some years ago” may seem grumpy, conservative, or even imply that a writer does not keep up with the technological developments of modern world. But when it comes to talking about the influence that such technological devices, smartphones in particular, have on people, it is interesting to take a look at the past.



Is there anyone who claims they can live without their smartphones or any other mobile devices nowadays? About twenty years ago, it was normal to remember important phone numbers by heart (our landline, our mother’s number, the office number, etc.); nowadays, this is no longer an alternative because we rely too much on our smartphones.

Games, social networking, diary, contact information, apps, portfolio, alarm clock, working schedules, e-mails, instant messenger, there are so many features that force us to disconnect from real world as a small screen in front of us gets our attention.

But there is also huge and beautiful world out there. Studies have already demonstrated that the more time we spend outside the bubble that a smart phone creates around is, the greater is our life expectancy.

Here are 8 tips on how to take advantage of the real world without relying on a smartphone.

1. Spend more time with your friends




It is good to talk to a friend over the phone but only if he or she is too far away! A “LOL” never replaces a real laugh, and an emoticon hug is never as warm as the real thing. It is recommended to have a face-to-face chat with people we like.

2. Walk more in open air

If you think that it is not possible to workout without listening to a particular playlist in your smartphone, go back and read the title of this tip again. We are not talking about exercising but rather about enjoying the nature and world itself. Take a trip to a beautiful place: a beach, park, or square. You will not be lacking options to choose from.

3. Get your whole family together

During the weekends, you can gather all your family members in one place to better understand your own roots.

4. Find a book and lose yourself in it





Books can take you to a whole new universe or help you learn amazing things. Try to read them in the form they were intended to be read. No reading app on your smartphone can replace the pleasure of turning real paper pages! Smartphones, apart from being a source of distraction, can take the fun out of a reading experience – and harm your eyes.

5. Enjoy old family photos

If you do not have them, ask your mother or a family member to show you their albums. Each photo has a special story attached; something that practically does not exist today. These interactions help you better understand your parents.

6. Draw something

Drawing and coloring are some of the most relaxing activities for our minds. Have you noticed that when children work on their drawings and coloring books, they devote themselves to it for a long time? Thus, start doing that as well.

7. Board Games




Another activity to enjoy with friends is the board games. They are fun to play and also strengthen a friendship. Choose one which is perfect for you and your group.
