How To Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions

The start of January. A clean slate. Many of us can’t resist the allure of writing down the same noble-minded resolutions- drink more water! Join a gym! But coming up with them is the easy part. How do you actually force yourself to follow through?

Every year, lots of people have the same sorts of ideas about how they want the year ahead to look- if you consider the top resolutions from a few years back, getting healthy and losing weight are popular choices. 66% of Americans resolve to get fit, and while it’s not surprising to hear that not everyone succeeds, the speed of attrition may shock you- only 75% of newly resolved fitness junkies last more than one week, and only 46% stick with it for six months.

Luckily, this infographic has give easy tips to help you stay on track with your resolutions. The first is to set a measurable goal- because if you’re vague, you won’t be able to measure your progress in any meaningful way. Similarly, setting short term goals can help you feel like you’re making strides. And the final three tips are all about mindset- pick a goal you really care about, stay strong, and don’t forget to celebrate your hard work!

How To Deal With An Internet Outage

There’s nothing more frightening than losing your internet. Nothing. Which is why sometimes we need to poke fun at ourselves and laugh a bit.

If your internet service goes down, then here are some things to consider doing while wandering lost in a disconnected non-digital world. Surviving won’t be easy, but it’s possible.

After the first few minutes, you’ll be tired of pressing F5 and trying to figure out your neighbor’s WiFi password. You might get the sudden urge to vent or even take your anger out at someone. Picking up the phone and calling your service provider to yell at them is always an interesting option. Still upset? Maybe express yourself in some form of art, like painting or drawing for stress relief.

You can probably cry a little too. Or you can get up and grab life by the horns! If your internet is out for a while, you can read a book, do chores, call friends, or watch TV. But make sure you do it with a bad attitude because not having internet is not okay!

Just be sure to try F5 again. Maybe even call the service provider to yell at them one more time. That always speeds up an otherwise slow and painful process. One thing’s for sure, patiently waiting is not an option.

How To Find The Right Diet For Your Dog

Has your vet suggested that your dog could drop a few pounds? Perhaps you’ve noticed your pooch slowing down and putting on weight.

As this infographic readily acknowledges, dogs really will eat anything. Even foods that are toxic to them! So you certainly can’t rely on Fido to tell you what he should be eating. Instead, here’s a convenient guide to building a healthy and nutritious diet for your dog.

A healthy dog diet needs to contain each of the three nutrient groups: proteins, fats, and carbs. For dogs, that balance should be heavily skewed towards proteins (56%) and away from carbs (14%). Natural fats and oils are essential, but avoid artificial flavors, preservatives, and hormones.

Those figures are essential to keep in mind because not all dog foods are created equal. Some pet foods contain the perfect nutrient makeup, while others will rely on unhealthy carbs. You can think ‘outside the can’ and supplement your pup’s diet with ground bones, raw eggs, or apples, and it’s important to remember that dog food expires just like human food. All in all, there’s a lot to think about- but if you put a bit of effort into diet planning, your pooch should stay happy and healthy for many years to come.

A History Of Amazing American Nurses

Nurses are often the unsung heroes of the medical world, and just as doctors tend to get more public credit in their day to day work, many famous nursing pioneers are overlooked by history books. Here are a few inspirational nurses you may not have heard about.

Nurses do some amazing things for our society- no wonder there’s a week devoted to them. Throughout history, a few nurses have stood out for their pioneering discoveries and unmatched sacrifices and bravery. For example, Clara Barton was a nurse during the Civil War, and earned the nickname ‘The Angel of the Battlefield”, before founding the Red Cross in 1881 and heading the organization for 23 years.

Mary Eliza Mahoney was a pioneer for women of color in the world of nursing, as the first African-American woman to complete nurse’s training in 1879, and the co-founder of the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses in 1908. Much later on, Rear Admiral Faye Glenn Abdellah (who died in 2017), a veteran of the Korean War who received five Distinguished Service medals, became a renowned nursing researcher, publishing over 150 articles during her lifetime. She developed the revolutionary ‘twenty-one nursing problems theory’, used to determine patient needs.

These nurses, and many more besides helped pave the way for today’s nurses and nursing students to help their patients and progress in their careers, which is why we remember them today as pioneers.

The Science Behind Fake News: A Complete Guide

30% of Americans have shared fake news stories. But how many people know what they share is false? A couple of years ago, the term “fake news” wasn’t commonplace. Fast forward to today, and this social phenomenon is seen as one of the latest threats to democracy, free debate and in general, the Western order. Some might think this is overreacting, some might think this is the truth of the matter.

Regardless of your stance on the impact of fake news, it’s challenging to deny the close relation between phony news and social media. A headline than two decades ago would have been forgotten in a couple of days, can now be shared and liked among dozens of platforms in every corner of the world. Identifying false information is tricky.

Fake news is news in which part or all the information is misleading, overly sensational, or just fabricated. This means that a crazy headline with a weird spin on a real report can be considered fake news. Most people don’t even bother to read the whole article before sharing, so headlines are a significant component of fake news.

The fake news craze is here to stay. Out of the 30% of people who shared fake news, a whopping 14% of Americans knew it was untrue. Human behavior impacts what’s shared. Social media outlets have been put under the spotlight. Some platforms are taking measures to counter the impact fake news could have on politics around the world. While we wait for those changes to be somewhat effective, I’m not holding my breath. What do you think about this phenomenon?

Get The Idyllic Cottage Garden You’ve Always Wanted

You can picture the scene: a charming cottage in the countryside- maybe in England, perhaps in Provence. At the front, there’s a rustic gate, and behind it, a sprawling garden. What if that could be your garden, wherever you live?

This isn’t the stuff of fantasy—it’s a reality. While many urban dwellers are turning to container gardens to grow vegetables and flowers, those with a bit more garden space to play with can easily recreate the look of a lush cottage garden with this straightforward guide.

Though it may seem counterintuitive, the best way to achieve a cottage garden is not to plan one. You read that correctly. An overly prepared, perfectly laid out, symmetrical garden won’t give you the wild, natural effect that you want. Instead, try scattering seeds like wildflower seeds might fly in the wind, and focus on colorful, tall plants like California poppies and cornflowers.

The eyes aren’t the only sense that you use when you experience a garden, so you’ll need to think about filling your cottage garden with beautiful scents, too. English lavender and night-scented stock will perfume your entire garden space, immediately transporting you to a more rural location. Ultimately, there are no rules- as long as you let your intuition guide you, you’ll have the garden of your dreams in no time.

The Scary Side Effects Porn Users Experience: An Inside Look

Is porn a big deal? Find out how this 97 billion dollar industry influences the human mind and what you can do about it.

Debates about porn have probably been ongoing since human beings figured out how to draw each other naked: the morality, legality, and censorship of it have been up for discussion for many centuries. What’s becoming ever more certain, however, is that modern pornography and the way people consume it can have a scary effect, both for individuals and for society.

Many a low-hanging joke has been made about the availability of porn on the internet, but the numbers behind pornography don’t lie: it’s absolutely everywhere. One of the most concerning trends is young people’s porn consumption. According to this infographic, 93% of boys and 62% of girls have seen porn online. With kids getting their first smartphone at age 10, on average, it’s increasingly hard for parents and schools to restrict their access to adult content.

And with porn consumption come a variety of negative effects: 10% of 12-13-year-old boys fear they’re addicted, and 39% of girls think porn is a realistic depiction of sex. With 88% of pornography containing physical aggression, primarily against women, it’s clear why these statistics should make everyone very concerned. It may be too late to find a solution, however, since porn changes the connections in young brains. At the very least, working to restrict young people’s access to pornography while teaching them about its unrealistic depictions, should be a top priority across the globe.

Are Money Issues Wrecking Your Marriage?

35% of couples say money causes stress in their relationship. Is it wrecking your marriage? Whether we have a lot of it, or too little, money has become a key element in our sense of self. Where do you stand on the financial front?

It’s clear that money awakens intense emotions in the majority of us. I mean, who wouldn’t want more money? I know a few people who could use a bit of help with mounting student debt (ahem, me). The problems start when we avoid sharing our feelings about money with others: it’s very common to go through life without ever talking financial status with our friends, and suddenly we’re thrown in a position where we are forced to do so.

Yes, I’m talking about marriage. When marrying someone, we’re joining our lives, and our money, to theirs. It’s very common for people to get into marriage without ever talking money with their partner: how do they want to spend their own money? How much debt do they have? Are they comfortable purchasing on credit or would they rather wait to have the full amount? Do you want to share accounts? Is a prenup a smart move?

Our natural resistance to talking about money can bring lots of headaches, especially when it comes to marriage. Many married couples claim money is one of the biggest fighting subjects for them, and the existence of secret bank accounts isn’t uncommon. Are you in risk of letting money disrupt your marriage?

The Impact Of Facebook Fundraisers On Charitable Giving

Are you wary of sharing your data on Facebook? You’re not alone. However, Facebook fundraisers continue to experience success regardless of the ongoing controversies and data breaches.

People dislike giving away their data. They are concerned about the lack of transparency as to how that data gets shared, or the social media giant’s slow response to extremism or fake news. Perhaps Facebook is addictive. More than 20 million people have donated or started a Facebook fundraiser—proving that giving online is alive and well.

It makes sense that as people’s lives and social connections are increasingly digitized, so is their charitable giving. Phone calls and mailers may still be effective ways for nonprofits to reach older people, but when it came to getting young people to give, social media is where it’s at.

Facebook Fundraisers launched in 2015. The statistics are slightly staggering. Since 2015, the feature has raised $1 billion for nonprofits and personal causes, and over a million nonprofits in 19 countries can now receive donations through Facebook.

It makes sense for people who want to give back to their community to, well, form an online community and share the causes near and dear to their hearts. Whether it’s St. Jude ($30 million raised), the ASPCA ($4.4 million raised), or the Marine Mammal Center (over $30,000 raised), Facebook has made it easy to put your money where your mouth is, while making sure your friends follow along.

America’s Worst Roads: A Pothole And Funding Nightmare

Are your roads littered with potholes deep enough to blow a tire out? Find out if your city made the list for America’s worst roads.

After all, any driver knows the hidden menace that rears its head every spring: potholes. While the bird’s chirp and the sun shines, roads begin to crack and pull apart in the changing temperatures. What you may now know, though, is how differently roads are maintained across America.

While some people drive mostly for leisure, such as friends taking an ultimate road trip, many Americans depend on our roads and highways to get to work and transport goods. Must of the political onversation surrounding US infrastructure often involves public transport (or the lack thereof). However, private transport is tricky depending on where in the country you’re based.

Since America depends so heavily on its roads, it’s no surprise there’s two different standards used to define road condition: the International Roughness Index (IRI) and the Present Serviceability Rating (PSR). Using those measures, this infographic analyzes the condition of America’s highways, and the geographic distribution is somewhat predictable: the Midwest (subject to scorching summer and icy winters) and West Coast (liable to earthquakes) has many of the urban areas with the highest percentage of poor roads, while the temperate South and Florida have many of the urban areas with the highest percentage of good roads. In short, it looks like humans aren’t the only ones who benefit from sunny weather.

50 Animal Facts That Are Bizarre And Awe-Inspiring

Whether you want to stand out at trivia night or gain insight on your pets, these 50 animal facts will make you think twice about the creatures in nature. Our planet boasts more than 7 million different animal species that have been categorized into 5 different groups.

It seems weird to me that all of these different beings evolved from the sea. I mean, how much has to change for a small unicellular creature to become a huge elephant?! Even though more than 1 million species have been described, experts declared that there are around 8 million species of animals. in my opinion, this only proves that we know pretty much nothing about nature. Nature is a mystery not only to me, but biologists have also said that we know very little about the ins and outs of evolution (beyond Darwin, that is).

Even with all of this variety, most of these species are in danger due to global warming and climate change. In fact, the animal decline report issued by Living Planet in October of 2018 shows that humans have single-handedly decimated animals around 60% in the last 60 years.

The key to preventing even more animals from dying and species from becoming extinct is designing proper institutions and channels to advocate for effective environmental policies. Still not convinced about protecting animals? Maybe these weird animal facts will change your mind!

How To Maximize The Way You Think

Movies like Limitless have captured the imagination those looking to expand brain capacity.  Trying to unlock our brain’s full potential has been a goal of scientists and philosophers for hundreds of years.

But answers often can’t be found with drugs.

It all comes down to our comprehension of the world around us.  Each individual has an internal compass that helps them understand all of the various relationships between our universe’s moving parts.  These thought processes are known as mental models.

Having an understanding in the different realms of our reality can bring tremendous benefits to us as individuals, as well as the world as a whole.  Take problem-solving for example.  Most people try to avoid their problems, or are incapable of dealing with them adequately.  If you want to be a leader in the world, however, you look for problems and find ways to solve them.

It’s also important to keep in mind that our mind plays tricks on us with cognitive biases. Once they are noticed and brought under control, we can look at the world through a much clearer perspective.

Complex ideas and concepts are all around us, we have just gotten used to some and simplified them. With the proper tools we can expand this way of thinking and really create a better life for ourselves and those around us.

The History Of Breaking New Year’s Resolutions With Tips On Goal Setting

Is this the year that you’ll stick to your New Year’s resolutions? If you feel yourself wavering, then follow these tips to achieve your goals this year.

At first glance, New Year’s resolutions seem like an easy concept. You decide to do something, you announce it to the world, then you do it. But that simplicity is deceptive—which is why many people end up breaking New Year’s resolutions. Setting yearly goals is a complex tradition. By understanding the history of resolutions, you’ll figure out how to make them work for you.

If you’re struggling to keep your New Year’s resolutions, then you’re not alone. In fact, there were probably Babylonians and ancient Romans going through precisely the same struggle, as resolutions have been around for thousands of years. The Romans made promises to Janus, the god after whom January is named. Throughout history, breaking New Year’s resolutions came to be expected.

After all, 80% of people fail to stick to their New Year resolution, which can be a discouraging statistic. But there are some differences between those who keep going and those who stop. For example, people who keep their goals too broad tend to fail, because there are no concrete actions to take. However, those who set specific goals are likely to meet them. Equally, attempting the same resolutions year after year sets you up for failure while learning from your mistakes and establishing a better resolution helps you succeed. Ultimately, if you’re thoughtful and realistic, you can stick to your New Year’s resolutions.

How To Track The Sun’s Movements Wherever You Are

It’s been a while since (most) people stopped believing that the sun rotates around the Earth, but if you watch the sun move across the sky, it’s surprisingly easy to see how the myth arose.

Though it’s a cliche, it bears repeating that among all the chaos and discord on the internet, it’s still remarkable how it’s made the world a much smaller, more connected place. If you need to see the weather forecast for a city halfway across the world, go ahead. If you want to look at a sunset 24 hours a day, the internet is there for you. And now, thanks to this beautiful visualization by Small Multiples, you can track the movements of the sun and moon relative to the Earth.

The visualization is a preview for the Hello Sun app, which allows you to track the movement of the sun and moon across the sky of several cities across the world. Here, for example, you can see how quickly the February sun sets in Toronto and how long it stays up in Sydney, given its long summer days. Not only is it mesmerizing to watch, but if it’s beautiful to think that if you have loved ones in other cities, you can now watch the same sky as they do.

Is Gen Z The Most Entrepreneurial Generation Yet?

As a young person considering their economic prospects today, things may seem bleak. Find out why nearly half of the Gen Z generation intends to become entrepreneurs. Compared to the cheap tuition and housing enjoyed by baby boomers, Generation Z will face a tougher economic outlook. But many of them are getting smart with their money to ensure they can provide for the future.

In 2017, 44 million Americans had student loan debt, totaling $1.4 trillion. Savvy Gen Z-ers have seen their parents and older relatives live with crushing debt and are coming up with new ways to pay for college, with 76% already earning money through part-time work, and 38% planning to work through college.

Even after college, employment can be tricky- in 2018. 1 in 20 college graduates couldn’t find a job. Some members of Gen Z are turning to the gig economy to make ends meet, while nearly half of Gen Z plan to become entrepreneurs. 41% want to start their own business, and 45% say they will invent something world-changing.

Young entrepreneurs include Ryan, a 6-year-old Youtube star with 13 million subscribers, and Moziah Bridges, who launched a bowtie collection at the age of 9 and even appeared on Shark Tank. Obviously, not everyone can become a Youtube star or launch a fashion brand, but it’s clear that young people are smart with their money and creative in their solutions.

How Much Of Your Data Do Tech Companies Really Have?

Most of us give data away freely every day. But have you ever stopped to consider how much of your data is in the hands of big tech companies?

Spoiler alert: it’s a lot. Particularly for younger people who may not remember a life before the rise of social media, filling out their information can feel almost instinctual. Name? Sure. Zip code? No problem. While big data breaches get publicized and lead to flurries of concerned op-eds, few people pause before willingly handing over a wealth of personal information to tech giants.

This useful infographic lets you compare the data gathered by 6 tech giants: Google, Facebook, Apple, Twitter, Amazon, and Microsoft. Twitter and Amazon collect the least information (with Twitter foregoing even names), while Google and Facebook learn absolutely everything about you, from the ads you click to your search history, to your workplace.

Ultimately, it can feel as though consumers don’t have a choice- or at least a realistic one. Sure, you could swear off all social networks, but that can be a lonely lifestyle, particularly if your friends live far away. So perhaps, when it comes to realizing how much data you’ve shared online, ignorance is truly bliss.

21 Fascinating Cat Facts

If you’re a cat person, you should be well aware of their superiority to dogs. But did you know that they’ve been gracing us with their presence since ancient Egypt? At the time, they were considered a sacred animal, and anyone who dared to hurt them faced severe punishments.

In addition to their legendary status, felines possess some tremendous physical attributes. Kittens are widely known for their exceptional vision. At night they can see up to six times more clearly than humans. It makes sense, considering that they spend about 70% of their time resting their eyes. This could explain why about 50% of household cats are overweight.

Today’s cats have even gained some individual acolytes. The town of Talkeetna, Alaska, appointed Stubbs, the cat as their honorary mayor in 1997.

Felines are also very resilient. There are records of them falling off of 35-story buildings and surviving. Of course, they’ve left with only eight lives afterward, but that’s enough to get them by.

Cats can be quite a pet. Squeezing into tight boxes, chasing lasers, or just purring on your lap, having one can bring you these benefits. Unless, of course, they are busy secretly plotting your demise.

Inside The World Of Digital Couponing

Couponing isn’t only for moms! Thanks to the rise in smartphone and internet use, more and more people are casual digital couponers. Are you ready to take the plunge?

Coupons are great for customers everywhere. In fact, people are so price-conscious that we spend an average of 2 hours per week looking for the best deals and ways to save on our online purchases.

This is such an extended practice that around 90% of consumers use coupons to save money, get some extras with their purchase or even buy things they wouldn’t without the discount.

Coca-Cola was one of the first companies to offer a coupon. In 1887 they offered a coupon for one free glass of coke. Not bad, heh? Even though coupons have been around for more than a century, they’re still going strong. Even more, they have left its paper form and have gone digital. We can find coupons in emails, texts, social media platforms, brand websites, push notifications, retailer websites, and coupon/discount sites.

If you want to find some good deals, keep an eye out for coupons! Especially around common holidays, businesses everywhere will try to get you to spend using coupons that offer amazing discounts and extras. Are you ready to start saving money today?

The Story Behind 52 Premature Deaths of Bitcoin

Bitcoin became a part of the mainstream consciousness in 2017, but in 2018, the value of Bitcoin declined and flattened.

Over the course of 2018, the cryptocurrency has seen instability in its value with a price chart that looks more like a heart monitor.

In fact, there have been many peaks and valleys in its value, and often, Bitcoin has trended so low that financial experts have declared it “dead.” Since its inception, there have been more than three hundred Bitcoin obituaries written, with 125 in 2017, and 90 in 2018.

Well, Bitcoin is still standing, and the premature death reports run the gamut, from fakes to hacks to its hard-to-comprehend “virtual” existence. In other words, when you cannot hold something physically, which is the case with Bitcoin, it is hard to gain credibility, even in a world owned by an abstract world wide web.

For example, on June 20, 2011, the price of Bitcoin fell from $17 to nearly nothing when hackers exploited the cryptocurrency’s most popular exchange, Mt.Gox.

More recently, on May 6, 2018, iconic investor Warren Buffet, whose $85 billion dollars make him the world’s most trusted financial adviser, called Bitcoin “rat poison squared.”

While Bitcoin has not met its end just yet and it has even created numerous millionaires, the horror stories exist as well. For the most part, much of the FOMO crowd, who got in late on bitcoin and bought high have lost thousands of dollars as the currency’s value has plunged 75 percent in the last year.

If anything, these stories of premature death signal volatility, so do your homework before getting involved with Bitcoin.

How To Declutter Your Email Inbox

Are you completely overwhelmed by your inbox? If you feel like every day is a race against the clock, email triage might be the answer to your problems.

So what exactly is email triage? It’s a structured way to process your emails. You could call it a productivity technique, useful for exploading work inboxes or personal. It’s a way to make effective and fast decisions about what to do with all the messages in your inbox.

The name comes from the term, emergency room triage. This is a basic scan that classifies patients in the state they come in according to the urgency of their treatment. Yep, that’s the reason your mild cough won’t get help until the nurses are finished with that traffic accident and the lady in labor.

For your email, this means looking at your inbox from an urgency perspective. Ask yourself which emails need an instant response and which ones can wait until later in the day.

Email triage can effectively lower the stress a full email inbox has on you, as well as improving your ability to focus on the people that actually deserve your attention. In the end, it will bring clarity and peace into your work life. Are you ready for it? Check out today’s infographic for everything you need to know to triage your inbox right now.

How To Find The Right Musical Instrument For You

Many people don’t get to choose which musical instrument to learn. Their parents choose while they’re still kids, and that’s it—no going back. But what if you could pick the ideal instrument for you?

This infographic is written tongue-in-cheek. For example, it recommends a comb and tissue paper as the right choice for those with “not an iota” of musical ability, and a saxophone for those aching to be in an 80s cover band.

It’s true, though, musical instruments have personalities of their own. That’s why you want to make sure you vibe well with your chosen instrument before you commit time and money to it. Sure, taking music lessons can teach you a lot of valuable skills, but you’ll have to buy an instrument, pay for lessons, and practice for hours before you see any results—so you may as well enjoy it.

Equipped with this infographic, you’ll have no trouble making an informed choice and laughing while thinking about your decision. Younger readers are steered towards violins and recorders, while the infographic points adults to the more niche harps and french horns. This humorous advice gets you thinking about which musical instruments fit in your future.

How To Plan An African Safari

Africa has become a global leader in conservation efforts, and South Africa, in particular, is legendary for its wildlife and premiere safari adventures.

Numerous African national park reserves preserve the future of Africa’s greatest beasts, which include the lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino.

These regal animals were once killed in large quantities as trophy hunting was rampant and unregulated in Africa for much of the 20th Century, but in Africa’s reserves, the only shooting is with a camera.

Fortunately, for these beautiful animals and the planet as a whole, ecotourism replaced hunting as the biggest draw to Africa in the 1980s, displacing professional hunting (though poaching still exists).

Africa’s national parks are incredible landscapes where our childhood imaginations come to life.

For instance, Kruger National Park has nearly five million acres of land. Established in 1898, Kruger is a real gem with endangered animals that roam 16 diverse vegetation zones that six rivers feed.

Sabi Sand Reserve houses a wilderness of animals including the big five, along with giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and 500+ species of birds. It is the oldest private reserve in South Africa, and you are guaranteed to spot a leopard here.

Other top destinations are in Cape Town, Vic Falls, Serengeti, and Okavango, while Chobe and Masai Mara, along with Kruger are rated the best reserves by experts.

While some trips are quite expensive, there are a few that cost less than $200 a day. If you are opposed to zoos or want something authentic on your next vacation, maybe take a safari, African style.

Some Healthy Foods Are Lying To You

People often start a diet by trying to incorporate more wholesome meals into their diets. Unfortunately, many foods aren’t as nutritious as they appear and will secretly sabotage healthy plans.

Something of a revolution occurred in popular dieting habits: people realize that macros (the total number of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins eaten each day as compared to calories burned) matter more than just eating large amounts of healthy foods, with no thought given to portion or nutrition.

However, there are still a few false friends in the diet world. Foods that act as healthy alternatives to other products, but which actually can have diet-ruining effects. Dried fruit is a great example. While it seems more nutritious to grab a handful of dried mango than a chocolate bar, it may have the same effect on your diet, as dried fruit has three times more calories than fresh fruit.

While substituting baking ingredients can be a helpful dieting tip, be careful with your replacements. Many items labeled reduced fat replace fats (which keep you full for longer) with sugars (which are quickly burnt through). Reduced fat peanut butter is a classic culprit, with plenty of sugar and salt added to keep it tasty. Similarly, bran muffins often make up for reduced fat with increased sugar. So next time you’re grocery shopping, remember to check the nutrients label and not trust your preconceptions of healthy foods.

Design Trends to Lead 2019

Just like in fashion, digital design has its own seasonal trends. What will be trending this year? Check out these predictions for the leading design elements coming in 2019. Hint: Are you ready for all the color?

For businesses everywhere, custom made illustrations are all the rage. Even though the stock photography market is still alive and kicking, recent statistics show that a well-executed custom made illustration can convert up to 7 times better than any stock picture. The key is using vibrant, bold colors to make your brand pop.

Following on that thought, get ready for bold colors. 2018 saw a steady increase in bright and vibrant colors everywhere. This year, it will only get bigger. Supersaturation is back with a vengeance!

Because our world is more and more globalized, the eclectic trend will be huge in the design world this year. The idea behind it is merging elements from very different backgrounds to make stunning compositions that cause an impact and define the brand.

Not everything will change. Gradients, a design element that saw a big comeback in 2017, is still going strong. Even more, Instagram and Apple are still using them in their branding, so don’t expect gradients to go anywhere this year.

Finally, welcome back the isometric trend. This is a personal favorite of mine. I’m loving the way you can see all the details! Luckily for me, this one will be all the rage in 2019.

Push-Over No More: 25 Best Ways To Say No

Do you often find yourself busy and with no time of your own? Do you feel like your life is guided by what others need and expect for you? If so, you might have trouble asserting your opinion and saying “no” when necessary. All of this is part of being an assertive person.

Assertive people are confident enough to speak their mind without bullying others into agreeing with them. They tend to have fewer conflicts in their dealings with others, which translates into much less stress in their lives. They get their needs met, which means less stress over unmet needs. Plus, assertive people are better equipped to help others.

Having stronger, more supportive relationships virtually guarantees that, in a bind, assertive people have others they can count on, which also helps with stress management, and leads to a healthier body. Doesn’t that sound nice?

Even though some people are naturally assertive, this is a life skill that can be learned. The first step is to take an honest look at yourself and your responses, to see where you currently stand. If you have difficulty accepting constructive criticism or find it hard to say no, then you can work to improve this aspect of your life.

How To Navigate Office Parties As An Introvert: A Guide

Being an introvert can be hard, especially in social situations. Office parties are a whole other animal: beer and coworkers aren’t always a match made in heaven!

As an introvert, you might be tempted to simply not go. I’m telling you it’s possible for you to go and even have a good time! The key? Preparation. Here you are a few tips to help you come out of your shell and deal with shyness in a party.

Baby steps are the way to go. Take small challenges. Don´t push yourself to make ten new mates in a week. Rather, practice small actions, like to have a five-minute chat with someone you don’t know very well.
Have a list of your strengths. This will help you to be conscious of excellent stuff about you. Your shyness is not what define you. Don’t forget about all the other cool stuff you’ve got going on.
People are not looking at you. When you feel shy, it can be easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the people you’re with are all looking at you and judging you. The truth is, they’re probably not thinking about you at all.
Self-talk yourself up. Positive self-talk ain’t easy, but if you practice for a while and get better at it, it will work a charm in boosting your self-confidence. You’d be surprised how much of a difference a bit of self-love can make.
Smile, no matter what: Every smile requires that you use an enormous number of muscles in your head and face, and that calms you down. It will also make you look more approachable.
Don’t avoid social situations. Even if they make you nervous and uncomfortable. Each time you face them, you’ll become better equipped to deal with them in a way that you enjoy.
Practice your social skills. Communication skills come in handy in most aspects of life. Get skilled up by checking out some communication tips.

The Real Secret Behind Apple’s Success

What is your worst customer service horror tale? Did they make you wait for hours only to be greeted by a robot? Did the person behind the counter know even less than you?

All over the world, customer service has a bad rep. Employees don’t want that job, and clients dread calling or waiting in line.

Nevertheless, one company has risen above. After years of a declining tech retail market, Apple stands out in its success.

Contrary to most tech retails, Apple stores are relatively few in numbers across the US, yet they produce more than 30 million in annual revenue. Not bad for only 270 stores, huh?

So what is the secret to Apple’s success? It’s all in the customer service. Even though our world is more and more digital nowadays, we still need the human touch. As customers, we want to feel understood, and robots can’t connect with us on an emotional level.

Even more, customers all over the country state that the most decisive thing when choosing not to return to a retail store isn’t product quality, but bad employee behavior, lack of attention and lousy in-store experience.

Apparently, Apple stores were modeled after the Ritz-Carlton customer experience. Do you feel like a fancy traveler when going to your local genius bar?

How Google Analytics Can Work For You

Online business popularity is currently at its apex.  Considering what’s at stake, every business owner would like to maximize their site’s potential.  Luckily, there’s an indispensable tool that does just that—Google Analytics.

Before you can convert your website views into profit, you must understand how your visitors interact with your site. Getting an idea of who visits your site and what devices they use, can help you optimize their experience. Google Analytics offers various stats about the demographics of your audience and how they arrive on your site. With mobile optimization being standard, it’s crucial that your website functions well across all devices.

Another crucial aspect of a successful website is reducing the clutter.  Theoretically, spreading the content to suit many different groups can widen your audience, but is it a successful strategy? Google Analytics can show you which of your pages are least popular and how long visitors spend on them. This can help with decisions related to grouping or even removing pages from your site.

Google Analytics isn’t there only to help you make money; it’s also about the people.  Keeping your customers satisfied with your service and product will help you get more motivated to keep improving.  However, it wouldn’t hurt to make a few bucks along the way.

This Is What It Feels Like To Have Dyslexia

Many people who do not have dyslexia think they understand the condition.  Maybe they’re aware of its scientific meaning.  Perhaps they’ve had classmates, friends, peers diagnosed with dyslexia.  Richard Branson is an example of a celebrity with well known dyslexia.

Today’s infographic explains exactly what reading with dyslexia is like- and what one font designer is doing to help.  Anyone who has delved even a tiny bit into the world of typography and fonts knows it’s a fascinating area, one which even inspires people to write definitive guides in order to explain it. The font Dyslexie, designed by Christian Boer (who is himself dyslexic), isn’t based on aesthetic or stylistic concerns, however; its purpose is to make reading easier for people with dyslexia.

Instead of integrating visual signals from both hemispheres of the brain as most readers do, dyslexic readers must rely only on the left hemisphere to do all of the heavy lifting. This means that 2D letters can appear as 3D objects that spin, tip over, or otherwise flip into ‘twins’ of themselves, and appear to be a different letter entirely. Dyslexie battles this issue by weighting letters down, widening their open spaces, and giving them unique features.

Best of all, it appears that this new font may really be a game-changer: 81% of dyslexic readers felt they could read faster, and 73% said they made fewer letters. It turns out something as simple as a font can make a huge difference.

How To Choose Dog Breeds For Apartment Living

Do you want a dog, but worry about how your pooch will adapt to apartment living? Choose an apartment dog breed, and you won’t have to stress. There are plenty of breeds that are just fine with watching Netflix while you’re at work.  If you’re lucky, you might even get a couple of tail wags when you get home.

Take the Shih Tzu for example.  This apartment dog breed has no problem spending its time at home on the couch.  If watching TV isn’t enough, you can always play hairdresser with them, as they do require some regular grooming. The gentle Bulldog is another pooch who’d prefer sleeping over adventurous play.

Want something a little bigger?  Get ready to be pleasantly surprised by the Greyhound’s laid back personality.  Although they can run at speeds of up to 45 mph, they would rather lay next to you and know that you’re happy to spend time with them.  If you have more space, then you may prefer other popular dog breeds as well.

Even if you live in an apartment, you don’t necessarily have to convert to cats.  Plenty of options are available for dog lovers.  Just make sure to hide your shoes before you leave for work.

The Eclectic Nature Of Ad Agency Personnel

Directly or indirectly, most people have had some experiences with ad agencies — a structured system of different individuals that bring your ideas to life.  But there’s so much more to them than just position titles.

This tongue-in-cheek infographic adds a little more personality to the daily life ad agency personnel. Let’s start with the accounts manager. They spend most of their day on the phone trying to persuade customers that less work for more money is the only way to do things.  Accounts people also have the tall task of making clients understand that their expectations are unrealistic.

Not everyone on board is the social type, so to speak.  The developers spend most of their time coding, looking for an isolated room to hide in, and more coding.  Also, they tend to quietly question their co-workers’ intellectual capacity. Power to you, developer!

In every business, there must be a money guy.  In agencies, that’s the finance department.  They calculate to see where to spend money and when to invest.

In a fun way, these different personalities mesh together quite beautifully to bring your idea to life in a compelling ad campaign.  It’s just a well-oiled machine that runs on stress and hard liquor.

What If Immigration Waves Were Tree Rings?

Dendrochronology may be the most interesting word you’ve never heard before: it is the scientific method of dating tree rings to the exact year in which they were made, which is how scientists determine the age of our planet’s oldest trees. What if this fascinating niche area of science could be used to visualize consecutive waves of immigration?

That’s exactly what this video does: in this model, the United States is the tree, hundreds of years old, and its cells are made out of immigrants. As immigrants arrived, the ‘cells’ they make up are shown as rings, which give a visual representation of each wave. Census questionnaires were used to collect the data for the visualization, and a computational algorithm deposited each tiny ‘cell’ in the appropriate place.

Each ring is coded in terms of colour and the direction in which it extends, in order to show the origin of that particular immigration wave. For example, European immigration is green and extends to the right of the image, and large European waves are visible between 1850 and 1950. Immigration from Latin America is coded orange, and extends to the bottom of the image. The study shows that Latin American immigration picked up in the latter half of the 20th century, between 1950 and 2000. Besides its obvious usefulness, the visualization offers a great metaphor for immigration to US, as it shows the way each wave has led to the country growing and evolving.

Everything You Need To Know About The EU’s GDPR

Has your inbox been flooded with emails about changes in privacy policies? I know mine was. All of those emails stem from the start of the General Data Protection Regulation, AKA GDPR. So what exactly is it and how does it affect you?

The GDPR is a legal framework meant to protect the personal information and data of European citizens for transactions happening within EU member states. Thus, all companies dealing with EU citizens’ information are bound to it, even if they don’t have EU headquarters.

The GDPR replaces the old 1996 Data Protection directive, mainly because of the quick changes happening due to the digital age. The former instruction fails to address new data concerns in the digital world, it was fine in 1995, but outdated by 2019 standards.

For EU consumers, the GDPR ensures their right of erasure, AKA, their right to be forgotten. This means that an EU citizen can request their data to be removed. On the other hand, it also helps consumers to know when their data has been collected and whether or not they can opt out of it.

Businesses dealing with EU customers had two years from 2016 to 2018 to make their databases comply with the new regulations. The deadline was October 2018, hence the multitude of emails in the later part of the year. As for US-based consumers, it doesn’t change much. Except to serve as a reminder that large digital corporations undervalue our privacy. However, stay tuned as states, like California, introduce privacy laws similar to the GDPR.

How Instagram Can Make Or Break A Restaurant

The internet era has changed not only how people communicate, but also how they see the world. But has it even changed the way we eat? World-class restaurateurs share their take on today’s infographic.

The internet and more specifically social media are everywhere nowadays. Come on; people even go to the bathroom with their smartphones! Although it has this ever-present quality, most of us don’t fully realize how it changed the world we live in.

But think about it for a minute: when was the last time you went shopping at a brick-and-mortar store instead of looking for the item online? When was the last time you spent a whole weekend without using the internet? Probably a long time ago, like when you were grounded at 14 years old (or was it only me?).

Bathroom or not, pretty much every daily experience in our lives has something to do with our online presence. This is such a strong trend that restaurants take into account our digital lives to keep their businesses alive. It’s undeniable that internet trends, like viral posts and witty tweets, have a significant say on the success—or failure—of innovative food trends, fast food chains, and typical upscale dining places.

In fact, restaurant people even have a small formula: apparently, all we need to be fans of a new restaurant is for it to have pretty walls, neon signs, a good “instagrammable” wall outside, cute plates and interesting floors. And the food, right. We’re simple people, ya’ know?

Are you curious about what restaurants do to hook this digital generation? Check out today’s infographic!

This Is What It Feels Like To Have Dyslexia

Influencers have been all the rage for a few years now, and the trend doesn’t seem to be stopping at any point soon.

Just a decade ago, the word “influencer” was unknown to most people. Nowadays, it’s an entirely different story. Given that around 40% of the world’s population uses social media tools, someone who has a loyal and active following can be an asset for any business.

Thus, the business of selling your personal brand to promote products or other companies is growing by the minute. Every day more “traditional” businesses are looking at influencers as a way to target a more focused group of possible customers in a way that is more efficient and cost-effective.

Being an influencer (or hiring one) has become such a big part of marketing that Influencer Agencies are on the rise, and most influencers you see online actually have managers and agents that handle their business, sponsorships and brand deals.

If you want your brand to be more personable and relatable, it might be worth it to try your hand at influencer marketing. Still unsure? Check today’s infographic with the most significant influencer benchmarks of 2019: get on with the trend or risk your chance at more exposure!

10 Endangered Animals To See Before They’re Gone

Animal species are seeing their populations perish now more than ever.  Overpopulation and consumerism lead to issues like deforestation and climate change.  The effects are quite discouraging, as some of the most famous animal species are currently fighting for their existence.

A very sought-after item, the rhino’s horn has been the reason for the animal’s poaching numbers growing exponentially in the past decade.   From 1960 to 1995 about 98% of the Black Rhino population has ceased to exist.

Orangutans share over 96% of their genes with humans, which is why they’re known as the man of the forest.  Unfortunately, they are hunted in the wilderness in order to be domesticated as pets in places like Taiwan.  Every time one is captured, 3-5 die in the process. This trend is unsustainable, as females give birth to one every 3-5 years.

The Amur Leopard’s breathtaking beauty hasn’t gone unnoticed by poachers.  Originally from Russia, the animal wears an exquisite coat, which can cost up to $2000.  Currently, there are around 80 of them remaining.

The Earth’s equilibrium has been completely thrown off in recent history.  Overhunting, overfishing, and rising temperatures are only some of the reasons why nature heading into a critical state.  What humans may not realize is that we are intrinsically tied to this planet and all its lifeforms.

The question is, what can we do about it?  There are plenty of ways to contribute.  Demanding more responsibility from corporations, cutting down on beauty product consumption, and helping various organizations are a fraction of the ways we can be effective.  So next time you enjoy nature’s magic, think about what’s currently at stake and make a positive impact.

How Laughter Can Heal You

Do you laugh a lot? Do you laugh easily? Well, you might want to, because other than just being a joyful person, laughing can actually improve your health.

Studies have shown that people who laugh more have experienced reduced pain in medical procedures due to natural endorphins from the brain. It’s also proven that increased laughter decreases stress, and allows the individual to have better sleep quality. It can also lead to a healthier heart! The great thing about it all is that laughter is free, available, and has no side effects. It’s genuinely just a harmless, joyful activity that anyone can partake in.

When you’re feeling down, laughing can improve your mood. It isn’t easy, but try to find humor in every situation—find ways to make yourself laugh. And I’m not saying that you should sit in your room and just cackle to yourself (although that would probably work). Instead, read some funny comics or be goofy with your friends. We cheer up others best when we make jokes to get them to crack a smile.

So don’t hold your laughter in—think of your health. Maybe don’t be that person who laughs at everything, but if you find something genuinely funny, you should laugh! Hahaha!

The Actual Costs Of Falling In and Out of Love

Romance. It’s exciting, scary, intimate, and costly. In a society that tends to focus mainly on the positives of love–the hugs, kisses, and big romantic gestures–it’s easy to overlook the price it comes with.

We’re often shown that if we find the perfect partner, we’ll be fulfilled and happy. But that’s a naive and unrealistic way of viewing romance. Being in love doesn’t mean life is going to be perfect, there are still so many things to worry about–stability, compatibility, jealousy, distance–it often leads to even more problems. So is it worth it? Emotionally, physically, financially? Maybe before tumbling head-over-heels in love with someone, it would be wise to consider how much falling in love can cost us, and worst-case-scenario, how much falling out would too.

This infographic focuses on the monetary part of love, starting from courting, to going on dates, the proposal, then marriage, and all the problems that normal married couples go through. Maybe for some people, it ends there. But some choose to go down the path of divorce, and the infographic covers that too.

So take your time to fall in love, be careful who you choose, make sure you’re happy, and consider the costs. In the end, I hope we all find that love is worth it.

Start With The Proposal And Have The Best Prom Night Ever

Prom night is as American as bacon and eggs. But how did this tradition come to be? Prom began as a way to reinforce manners and poise in young people.

Prom is short for “promenade,” which is what we called the first proms. In the late 1800s, Ivy League students attended a presentation week that included a dance in formal attire and a concert. Back then, prom nights served as a way to meet up with those of the opposite gender, as it was common to attend an all-male or all-female school or to have no formal education.

From the beginning, prom was an expensive event, and not everybody was able to attend. In the early 1900s, prom events reached high schools. These proms aimed to promote socialization and good behavior while serving as opportunities to mingle under the careful eye of chaperons. By 1930, proms were widely accepted throughout colleges and high schools alike, turning out to be one of the most important events of the school year.

Fast forward to the present day, where after a slow season in the 60s and 70s, prom is again all the rage. From taking grannies to prom to crowning a King with Down’s syndrome, prom is more inclusive and open to the new times. Maybe it will even survive another century! Get ready for this prom season with these easy tricks, and make your prom a magical night.

The Shrinking Life Span Of Americans

Advancements in healthcare and technology have allowed for a dramatic bump in our life expectancy.  So how come a developed country like the United States has seen a downward trend in its mortality rates?

While the trajectory of other countries’ average life expectancy seems to be getting better at a steady rate, Americans are reaching a plateau at 78.9 years.  Countries like Japan and Switzerland are seeing their citizens enjoy a life of over 80 years old.

Digging a little deeper, findings show that there is a negative change in mortality among the elderly in most developed countries.  The only country that has seen this downward trend among people younger than 65 is the US.

No discrimination among the different groups can be seen, as all races have experienced a drop in their life expectancy.  The rates vary anywhere between 4-30%.

Unfortunately a country’s economic success inevitably brings with it consumption of drugs, unhealthy food, and mental problems.  This has had a major impact on the US population.  It’s no secret that the opioid crisis has been contributing to shrinking lifespan.

With access to better healthcare and technology, developed countries should be seeing improvements in their mortality rates.  Statistics like these show us that no matter how much innovation and wealth we have, it all comes with a price.

Definitive Guide To Jean Care

We all have that one pair of jeans that fits perfectly and works with just about any outfit combination.  Unfortunately, nothing can last forever, including those amazing jeans. The good news is that there are some ways you can keep them fresh for a long time.

Even though it sounds odd, not washing your jeans is actually beneficial to their longevity.  But if you can’t wash them, how do you keep them clean? One way is to freeze them. Put the jeans in your fridge for several hours and defrost them before you put them on.  This may be a good idea for the dog days of summer.

Another approach to cleaning them is by using alcohol.  Diluting vodka with water gives you an effective weapon in the fight against musty smelling jeans.  The good news is that it doesn’t have to be an expensive brand of vodka.

In case you absolutely have to wash them, be sure to use cold water and turn them inside out.  Hand washing is highly recommended.

For better or for worse, you can never be completely clean for your dates.  You can, however, freshen up your favorite pair of jeans.  Just be sure to air them out from that vodka so people don’t get the wrong idea about you.

Small Business Guide To Instagram Stories

As a small business, it’s essential you pool your resources and find the best way to establish long term relationships with new and existing customers. Have you tried Instagram stories?

Like other social media outlets, Instagram can become a key part of your marketing arsenal when used in the right way. Either way, it’s crucial you build a cohesive business strategy created to boost your sales and establish relationships with your clients.

In fact, Instagram can be a great outlet to let people know what your brand is all about: whether that’s your ethical sourcing, your opinion on puppies, or your new product intake, your clients can understand you and your brand on a deeper level.

The first step to using Instagram as a business tool is using the right hashtags. In a sea of beautiful information, hashtags are the primary way prospective customers can find you. With hashtags, just like with any good SEO strategy, you need to strike a balance between general and specific: nothing too rare, but nothing so saturated that your post will get lost.

On the other hand, it’s also vital that your aesthetic reflects the values and target of your brand. Whether that means bright colors, sharp edges or vintage pics, make sure it stays cohesive!

Finally, take advantage of Instagram stories. This relatively new feature mimics Snapchat and lets users upload natural short videos that disappear after 24 hours. This takes the pressure off and enables you to connect more easily with your audience.

This Is Why Your Drinking Water Tastes Funky (And How To Fix It)

Picture this: You turn on your faucet and fill a glass with cool water, eagerly awaiting its crisp taste. Instead, it smells like rotten eggs (or worse). What gives?

There are a number of reasons your water might be tasting funky instead of fresh. Tens of thousands of chemicals are used in our water filtration systems in the U.S., and there are still parts of the country without clean drinking water.

Here are some common water worries and solutions:

–– Your water smells like sulfur. This could be because of sulfur bacteria or hydrogen sulfide and is common in deep wells and plumbing systems. It’s also common when using hot water. This can be solved by having your water tested and also checking for proper ventilation.

–– Your water tastes like metal. This could be due to iron, manganese or zinc in your water, or it could be because of older, rusty pipes. Seepage can also be a culprit if your water source is well water. You can fix this by having your water tested and reporting it to a plumber.

–– Your water smells like sewage. So this is unpleasant but could be coming from your drain, not your water. If you have food and soap sitting in your drain, it can seem as if your water smells sour when it actually doesn’t. You can fix this by disinfecting the sink and pipes.

How To Survive In The Wild: The Essential Modern Survival Kit

We’ve all been asked a question that started with “if you were stranded on an island…” It’s a silly question that provokes interesting responses, but sometimes I think, wait, what IF I were stranded on an island? I’d totally die, I don’t know the first thing about survival.

Now, as unlikely it is that you’ll find yourself stranded on an island, what about if you choose to leave the comfort of your home behind and venture out into the wilderness? And, perhaps most important of all, what would you pack?

Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast or someone that likes to appreciate nature from time to time, the general items that you need to survive are important to know. The obvious ones are food, water, and first aid. But the items that I didn’t even think about were the sunglasses, pocket knife, and personal documents. These things don’t seem like necessities but when it comes down to it, they’re probably good to have.

If you ever to decide to escape into the wilderness to find your true self, I suggest you tell a friend or your parents and carefully read through this infographic so you know what to bring with you.

Farewell, Fido. Hello, Trendy Dog Names!

Names like Fido and Rover may have been the most popular choice for your dog in years past, but that is changing! Just as names of people are ever-changing in popularity, so are those of our pups.

Some of the top 10 female dog names include Lola, Roxy, Bambi, Coco, and Willow, with Bella rounding out the competition at number one. For the male dogs, Bear takes the top spot, with names like Axel, Milo, Charlie, Biscuit, and Buddy not too far behind. For both female and male dogs, Bailey was a favored choice. The moniker reached number five on the female pup side and number six for the males.

In addition to name popularity, the infographic also digs into the positives that pups bring to a family as well as insight on some millennials’ relationships with their furry companions. If none of the popular dog names on this list get your hind leg happy, you may want to check out some of the TV and movie dog names as well as some “geeky” names also listed on the infographic.

Did you see your dog’s name on this list? I’m curious to see which names will be popular in a decade!

What’s Changing With Travel Booking Trends in 2019

Travel is one of the activities that many look forward to the most, and that’s unlikely to change. However there are certain travel trends for the year that are changing.

For starters, families will be taking more vacations in 2019, regardless of their children’s schedule. In fact, according to CNTraveller, by 2020 around half of the US and UK’s working population will be freelancers, and with a rise in homeschooling, some family trips can be done at any point of the year. This means families will be able to snatch bargains in the off-season.

Also it looks like CBD is here to stay, even in the travel and leisure industry. Spas are adding more treatments that include Cannabinoids (the kind that doesn’t have hallucinogenic effects, of course) in order to relax and de-stress their guests.

Finally, when it comes to travel bookings, cryptocurrency starting to make an appearance at checkout. Thus, many agencies and airlines are or will be accepting a diverse range of cryptocurrencies for booking. From Japan to the US, you will soon be able to book some of your travels with Bitcoin, Ethereum or any other coin on the rise.

If you want to know more about traveling trends, check out today’s infographic. It shows the results of Facebook’s data gathering throughout 2018 on the travel industry. Data from how people discover travel options to what makes them stay with a specific company can be interpreted through Facebook. Creepy but cool! Are you ready for your next trip?

How Michelin Stars Work

Have you ever eaten at a Michelin restaurant? This prestigious award is reserved only for the best of the best in the industry. Do you know how it works?

Michelin stars are awarded by the same company that makes tires. Yep. In the early 1900s, the tire company saw a sales decrease in France. To fix this, they came up with a clever idea: to launch a guide to encourage road tripping. Shortly after that, the company started sending out anonymous restaurant reviewers to try new restaurants.

Nowadays, anonymous reviewers form the basis of Michelin stars awards. These people are passionate about good food and great memories: being anonymous prevents them from carrying a notebook, so the written report of the dining experience has to be done after the fact. That’s some great recall!

After the initial report, the reviewers get together and decide to give a restaurant one, two or three stars (or none). These stars are coveted mainly because most restaurants receive no stars. In fact, in all of New York, the Michelin guide awarded ratings to only 78 restaurants in 2018, just one more restaurant than in 2017.

Although prestigious, Michelin stars only take into account the food, not the customer service, the ambiance or parking availability. Michelin stars have been criticized as too French-biased, as well as preferring “snobby or formal dining style”. If you’ve never dined at a Michelin restaurant and are curious about it all, here’s everything you need to know about it!

A Dive Into What’s Trending On Snapchat

Most people who use Snapchat probably don’t think of it as much more than a pleasant, amusing distraction- the puppy filter is a mood-booster, sure, but it might not strike you as a key commercial concept. But imagine, for a second, the endless waves of content and data swirling across Snapchat, and how valuable it must be. Helpfully, Snapchat themselves analyze and publish trends in that data- from the serious to the nonsensical- so we can all see what’s catching the public’s interest.

Snapchat has become a key marketing tool in recent years, and by releasing monthly trend reports, marketers can capitalize on their social media posts and make content that people will click on. For example, in January, global trending topics included ‘Happy Australia Day’ and ‘Super Blood Wolf Moon Eclipse’. Savvy marketers could tailor their content to similar holidays or astrological events to maximize engagement.

Similarly, trending entertainment included ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ in the U.S., and ‘The Ted Bundy Tapes’ and ‘Sex Education’ in the U.K, all programs and shows that came out recently and received viral attention. Meanwhile, the top trending slang in the U.S. was ‘big chungus’, meaning ‘anything too large or oversized’- doing nothing to dispel Snapchat’s reputation as a meme-filled playground for young millenials.

Can One Infographic Teach You What Women Want?

Well, this isn’t clickbait, so I’ll go ahead and say it: no, an infographic cannot teach you what women want, because women aren’t a monolith with one standard set of opinions. But this tongue-in-cheek infographic still offers a fun look into what online dating searches can tell us about modern romance.

Collecting data from a set of searches (as this British dating website did) rather than surveys is an interesting technique, because it gives you real-time information about what people are searching for-rather than a rose-tinted view of what they think they might search for. And people are always searching for advice on online dating, so it’s interesting to see how the numbers play out.

A lot of the statistics here are pretty unsurprising, and would probably be true regardless of gender. 30% of women preferred light drinkers, while only 1% preferred heavy drinkers; 40% want non-smokers, with 2% wanting heavy smokers; and employed and self-employed (39% and 32%, respectively) handily beat out unemployed and student (2% and 6%).

On a more superficial note, brown hair (18%) beat black hair (17%) and grey hair (4%). Women were equally happy with an athletic (36%) or ‘average’ (36%) partner, and were not as drawn to slightly overweight (16%) or ‘large’ (3%) men. However, the most fascinating statistic of all has to be the 1% of women who intentionally searched for married men on the dating website. If this graphic proves anything, it’s that there really is someone for everyone.

How Often Should You Really Wash Your Clothes?

I’ll be the first to admit that my clothes-washing schedule is haphazard. Things get thrown in the laundry bin when they start to smell, and that laundry bin gets dragged over to the washing machine in a panic when I notice the dress I was about to wear to an event is nowhere to be found. But it turns out there are much easier systems you can use to stay organized.

As this handy infographic points out, there are a few easy-to-remember accepted rules about how often clothes should be washed- and it naturally varies by item. Generally, the closer a piece of clothing is worn to your skin, the more often you’ll need to wash it. That means t-shirts, socks, underwear, tights (which should be hand-washed), workout clothes, and silks should be washed every single time you wear them.

Then there are the items of clothing that can give you a little more lee-way, depending on where you wear them to and, well, how sweaty you get. These include dress shirts, blouses, bras, shorts, dresses, and pajamas. Finally, some items really don’t need to be washed frequently, and will last longer if you don’t clean them too often: suits, skirts, sweatshirts, pants, and jeans. Of course, everyone’s lifestyle are different, so this is only a rough guide- if you only wear a pair of socks at home, you can probably wash them less often. But hopefully this guide can help you to organize your washing schedule and never run out of clean clothes.

How Marketers Can Use IGTV

Instagram has slowly evolved to include not only its signature glamorous pics, but also short video format (stories) and as of June of 2018, longer videos, AKA, IGTV. Are you in on this new marketing outlet?

Instagram’s first move towards video format was Instagram Stories. These seemed in the beginning, a blatant copy of Snapchat’s very own Stories. To be fair, Facebook (Instagram’s owner) did try on several occasions to buy Snapchat. Nevertheless, they persevered and refused. So Facebook took tried a new business strategy. Tomato, tomato.

Either way, the strategy has worked. Instagram stories have been the best move for the company in the last years. According to Recode, Instagram stories have attracted 400+ million daily users and supercharged the way in which people share and consume things online. Although Snapchat keeps growing steadily, Instagram has simply blown through the roof with the addition of stories. More so, stories seem to be a key part of the longer time users are spending in the app: while in June 2017 people spent an average of 28 minutes per day in it, by June 2018 this had almost doubled to reach 53 minutes per day.

Cue the birth of IGTV. This is a new standalone app that features long videos of up to 10 minutes or up to 60 minutes if you are verified or popular enough. Because this is a new way of communicating with your community, and given it is integrated with the main Instagram app, IGTV offers a realm of possibility for marketers.

The Ultimate Guide To Solo Travel

Traveling is always an amazing experience: living among different people and in foreign places, even if only for a few days, can be exhilarating and enriching.

Nevertheless, most of us have mainly traveled with others. Be that with family, friends or colleagues; it seems easier to navigate a completely different environment when you have at least one friendly face by your side. But what about solo travel?

Solo travel is, in fact, on the rise. Even more, almost half of all solo travelers are 50+ years old. Go wild, retirees! Whether you’re thinking about solo traveling or are a seasoned pro, here are some tips you should take into account:

Pack light: When there’s nobody around you can truly trust with your baggage, you need to haul it around with you all day every day. Especially when it comes to airport layovers and moving between one city and the next, it’s best to have only a carry-on or a backpack. If you want to go to the beach and there are no friends to watch your stuff, try tying your bag to any big thing like a tree or a chair. It will make it more difficult to steal your belongings while you swim.
Go with a map: To avoid making yourself a “tourist target,” try downloading Google Maps ahead of time, as well as a compass app. It will help you find your way among strange streets without making it evident you have no clue where you’re going.
Dining alone: This is usually a big concern when it comes to traveling alone. To avoid feeling awkward, you could bring something to do. Grab a book, a travel guide, and some postcards to write or even a travel journal. If you’d rather have something to look at, sit by the window or on the patio and engage in some people watching. You get the drill; you don’t need to feel weird because you’re enjoying your meal.
Now you know: traveling solo isn’t as complicated as it might seem. Here are some more tips tailored towards women especially.  Grab your bags and go!

Funny Facts About Your Digital Life

Are you always online? If so, then you join millions of people who have a digital life. The internet has become so ubiquitous that we take it for granted.

In fact, in 2010, Finland became the first country in the world to make Internet access a legal right. Following that lead, all prisoners in Norway were given internet in their cells. Come on! Here are some interesting facts about the internet, I bet you didn’t know half of these!

Internet users: 35.6% of internet users are Asian with Singapore having the fastest average internet speeds, The US comes in 20th place. Currently, over 1 million babies have been born from people who met through online dating. In the world, there are more devices connected to the Web than human beings. Humans make up only 49% of the entire traffic; various bots and spamming software trigger the rest. No doubt, we would have faster connectivity if they weren’t leeching on bandwidth. China has treatment camps for Internet addicts. Sign me up!

Internet by the numbers: It took only 4 years for the internet to reach a market audience of 50 million users, to be 5 times faster than Radio and 15 times faster than TV. Over 30,000 websites are hacked every day. Over 100,000 .com domains are registered every day. Over 70% of all the emails sent are spam. Up to 15%-20% of the searches Google gets each day have never been Googled before.

Nonsense on the internet: 51% of all internet’s traffic is fake and done through bots. The “Fi” in “WiFi” doesn’t stand for anything. The “@” symbol used to mean that the message was sent to a person and not a machine.

Because the internet is more and more common, fun situations ensue every day. Have you encountered any of today’s funny internet encounters?

Hangover Tricks That Actually Work

One of the most painful and cruel signs of aging is noticing your hangovers getting worse. It seems like it would be more fair the other way round, no? As a carefree student, I had time to sleep in after a big party, and yet I’d be up and full of energy. Now, as a stressed-out young professional, every drinking occasion mandates a full day (or two) of fetal-position recovery. Life’s just not fair. Luckily, if you’re old and fatigued like me, there are a few hangover tricks that can ease your misery.

There are lots of hangover hacks on the internet, but not all are created equal. This infographic tallies up cures from around the world, from Bolivian fricase (a spicy pork stew) to Japanese shijimi soup (with raw egg, miso, and pickled plums). And if you’re feeling too delicate for food, the Russian tradition of drinking straight pickle juice might appeal (or send you over the edge).

In general, prevention is the best cure, which means eating a full meal before you go out, drinking a pint of water or juice before bed, and drinking water between alcoholic drinks to hydrate and pace yourself. There’s no magic cure for hangovers, but they don’t always have to be nightmarish.

7 Shameful Ways People Harass Others On The Internet

Online harassment has become so common that 41 percent of Americans have dealt with some form of Internet bullying.

Some types of online harassment is any fix through a social media block, but other forms of Internet bullying are highly disturbing, and can even be criminal.

For example, cyberstalking is a federal offense. In these situations, the victim feels threatened or intimidated on a regular basis by the same person or group, and it can be done on social media, email, or in chat rooms.

“Revenge porn” is another serious offense, in which nude pictures of the victim are exposed without permission, resulting in humiliation. Not only is this illegal, both criminally and civilly, but if it involves photos of minors, it becomes a sex crime.

On the low end of the harassment scale is the everyday troll who says negative things in order to get an emotional response. It is best to ignore trolling because it will probably stop if you do.

Protect yourself by maintaining private social media accounts and only inviting your real friends and family to join your online circles. If you have children, regular discussions with them are important to make sure they are not being harassed online and to prevent them from cyberbullying someone else.

The World’s Internet Activity For One Minute

As you are reading this, there are roughly 3.2 billion people that have access to the internet.  Although some are probably sleeping, others are very much awake and operating. So what exactly will everyone be doing within the next 60 seconds?

For one, social media will be buzzing.  Facebook will see about 1 million users log in to check their feeds.  Instagram on the other hand, will be expecting close to 350 thousand users who are more into purely visual content.  Looking to express your opinion on the latest developments? Join the 87 thousand others on twitter that will be airing out their thoughts.

If you’re just looking for love, Tinder is expecting you and the rest of its users to make 1.4 million swipes in the next minute.  Already found a match?  Then you’re now probably just using texts or Facebook messenger to communicate. You and roughly 60 million others, that is.

Seems like a lot of things are happening on the internet for one minute.  It’s quite understandable that some people experience a fear of missing out.  Maybe it’s time to try and save your sanity by deleting yourself from the internet.  Or maybe, it’s just time to go read a book.

Science Backed Email Subject Lines That Work

The difference between the trash folder and a read on click is often a perfectly crafted subject line. How is your email strategy fairing on that front?

The first thing people see after you hit the send button is your subject line. And a mediocre one can break havoc on a perfectly good email campaign. This means you should do everything in your power to make a good first impression!

The team at iContact put together this handy infographic with everything you’ll ever need to know about acing your campaign’s subject lines.

Did you know things, like adding a name or using some caps, can greatly improve your open rate? From sending birthday wishes to giving your campaign a sense of urgency, it’s the little details that will mark the success of your campaign.

Nevertheless, there are other issues you should consider besides how many exclamation points to place after the line. Things such as sending too many remainders or “urgent” emails too frequently can dissolve the trust your clients placed in you.

On the other hand, keep in mind your success depends on your industry as much as your skill. Non-profits and financial services always get more clicks than, say, agricultural topics.

As with everything, try your hand at different techniques and see what works best for your specific audience. You might be surprised!

The Way Land Is Really Used Across The U.S

One thing that shocks many European tourists in the US is the sheer amount of space. It’s true: America has a lot of room, whether in the width of its streets, the size of people’s yards, and above all, its vast rural expanses. If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, ‘What does America do with all of that space?’, this infographic will open your eyes.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s data- gathered through surveys and satellite imagery- the country’s land can be classified into six major types: pasture/range, forest, cropland, special use (including national parks, highways, and railroads), miscellaneous (including golf courses and cemeteries), and urban. Of those categories, urban (69.4m acres) and miscellaneous (68.9m acres) take up the smallest area by far, compared to pasture/range (654m acres), forest (538.6m acres), and cropland (391.5m acres).

Those numbers are logical, since urban centers are by their nature dense and small, compared to wide swathes of pasture. In fact, urban areas are so dense that 80% of Americans live or work in one, even though these centers make up only 3.6% of the country’s land mass. Some even believe that smart cities are the future, rather than rural living. Seeing these six categories and their subdivisions compared here in one map offers a detailed look into the diversity of the American landscape.

What In The World Is A Hospitalist?

Many people don’t give much thought to what goes on in hospitals. Often, they represent a stressful, miserable place, reserved for some of the scariest times in our lives. But some doctors devote their entire careers to work in hospitals, and you may never have even heard of them.

A career in medicine is fundamentally different from any other, and it’s fascinating to analyze what makes up a doctor. And the life of a hospitalist is another matter entirely. For starters, this infographic defines what a hospitalist is: a physician whose primary focus is the general medical care of patients admitted to the hospital.

There are 44,000 hospitalists in the United States. The standard path to a hospitalist career is to complete a family medicine, internal medicine, or pediatric residency, and that hard work can pay off; adult hospitalists make an average of $290,089 per year, while pediatric hospitalists make an average of $225,588 per year.

It’s not a breeze, though; hospitalists have a punishing schedule, with an average workweek of seven days on, seven days off, and an average 42 hours worked per week, in the form of seven 12-hour shifts. It’s a high stress job, with a high volume of patients- an average of 16 adults patients or 14 pediatric patients get seen per day. Yet, the most intense jobs are often the most rewarding, and for sheer variety of work, you can’t beat a hospitalist job.

Strange Creatures From The Deep Blue Sea

Approximately 70% of our planet is covered by oceans, only 5% of which has been explored.  In other words, roughly 60% of our planet is still hidden behind the veil of mystery.  So what exactly lurks in the ocean’s depths?

Creatures of the deep sea have developed coping mechanisms, to help them adapt to the harsh living conditions they are faced with.  Some of them are quite unusual.  A good example is the widely known Deep Sea Anglerfish.  They are equipped with a small light in front of their face, which helps attract smaller fish right into their mouth.  Yikes!

Looking for something scarier?  The Colossal Squid is sure to give you the chills just by being, well, colossal!  Measuring up to 46ft (14 meters), it’s the largest living cephalopod known to man.  They can be found in depths of around 5,000ft (1,500 meters).  Although humans can only dive so deep, it certainly makes you reconsider your next scuba diving trip.

With more than half of our planet yet to be explored, the world we think we know is still quite a mystery.  Oceans full of strange creatures we have never seen can certainly light up your imagination.  It can also remind us just how much safer our local pool is.

Science Backed Email Subject Lines That Work

Many places provide free WiFi, from the local coffee shop to the public library. However, free public WiFi is rarely safe, which leaves your private information open to hackers.

When a hacker arrives to explore your laptop, tablet, or phone, they can steal your photos, text messages, passwords, and even your bank information.

Since 25 percent of all public WiFi hotspots are unencrypted, you must take precautionary measures and have a strategy before entering into this danger zone.

Start by using a VPN, and today’s infographic explains how you can put this into play. Then, turn off file sharing, auto connectivity, your Bluetooth, and always use strong passwords that are so unique they could never be hacked.

Finally, only use well-known, legitimate brands when connecting. In other words, do not randomly hook up to any hotspot in which you do not know the source, and never “remember” a network because you don’t want to be connected to any WiFi without your knowledge.

Nearly a billion people a year are attacked by a cyber criminal, so take the appropriate steps to ensure that you do not become one of them.

What Your Dog Is Trying To Tell You

They don’t call dogs “man’s best friend” for nothing! The special bond between person and pup goes way back throughout history. But do we always understand what our four-legged friends are trying to communicate to us?

When your dog is looking straight at you with their ears up and tongue out, they may feel content. When their eyes are intense and they’re not blinking, that could mean that they are alert and focusing on something important to them. Perhaps they’re looking at their beloved companion, that enticing tennis ball, or a juicy treat. When you can see the whites of your dog’s eyes and their ears are pricked up, that may indicate that they are afraid of something.

When a dog makes a rising bark, it may mean that they are ready to play. A howl could be your pup’s response to a high-pitched sound like the sound of your practicing your flute, a police siren, or a firetruck siren.

This infographic also covers a number of positions and postures of your pooch. For example, a low, wagging tail may not indicate that your dog is too happy. It may mean that he or she is slightly anxious. And as you may have heard (or seen,) a dog sniffing another dog’s butt is not rude, but a polite way that they say, “hey!”

Sometimes, your dog is just angling for a treat.  But you probably already know that face by now.

Why There’s A Big Fuss About Life Coaches

Personal development professions seem to be increasing in popularity. In the search to find a professional to help one get to that “next level” in life, one may ask: Do I need a life coach? Do I need a counselor? Or, do I need both?

Although life coaches and counselors share many similarities and sometimes collaborate, there are some key differences between the two professionals as depicted. Counselors focus more on moving to a state of function. Counselors may also address serious mental trauma, whereas a coach does not diagnose or treat. Therapy helps the individuals uncover how they arrived to where they are today. Coaching starts with where the individual is today and helps them arrive to where they’d like to be. Whereas coaches focus more on the future, counselors may place more of the focus on finding closure in the past. This process varies greatly from person to person.

Although in different ways, both life coaches and counselors can provide a great deal of support and help the individual or group bring about a positive change in their lives. That is a common goal worth reaching! There are even topic specific ones like money coaches.   Have you ever thought about linking up with a counselor, a coach, or both?

Vaccines: Quick Facts

Still a hot topic in various circles around the world, vaccines have been getting more press in recent times.  Introduced all the way back in the late 1700’s, it has been preventing diseases from wreaking havoc all over the world.  If Edward Jenner were still around, he’d probably be shocked by the amount of people refusing to get vaccinated.

Currently, UNICEF alone is reaching around half of the world’s children with vaccines that save lives.  This includes 85% of children under one year old that have been successfully been given immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis.  Luckily, some companies and organizations are doing their best to provide help for those in need.

In Africa, where healthcare is still below standards, immunizations are protecting a large portion of the population against yellow fever.  By the time 2026 rolls around, 1 billion people will be vaccinated, half of which includes children under 15 years of age.

People in some countries are suffering, because they can’t get adequate help with disease prevention.  On the other hand, growing number of people get full benefits related to immunization from the government, but refuse to take advantage.  This may sound like a satirical novel, but unfortunately, it’s just a part of today’s world.

Guide To Fundraising On FB For Your Next Campaign

Fundraising at the individual level has evolved beyond the traditional cookie sale into the digital world. Are you up to date? Here’s everything you need to know about the basics of fundraising through Facebook.

If you work for or have set up a nonprofit organization, you have two main options in order to register your organization to receive donations: either through a link to your website’s existing donation button or processing payments directly through Facebook with Network for Good.

In the US, you will need some bureaucratic requirements like being properly registered with the IRS and having a licensed bank account.

After you’ve set up your donation button, you’re ready to start accepting donations! The amazing thing is that 100% of donations received through Facebook go directly to the organization. That means fewer fees so you can do even more work! Your users will even be able to fundraise in your organization’s name, using social media to their fullest potential.

Whether you’re getting ready for your next big campaign or are in need of some smaller donations, using Facebook and other social media outlets to your advantage can be the key to your organization’s success. Use the internet to raise even more awareness!

10 Common Exercise Myths That Just Aren’t True

There are a lot of misconceptions around exercising that could actually be slowing your down on your fitness journey. Did you know drinking a protein shake after your workout actually isn’t the best move?  Or that you can’t spot reduce a certain part of your body? These misconceptions are commonly believed throughout society when they’re actually not true — science says so!

So read through this infographic and be shocked at how many myths you thought were facts. The myth that was the most discouraging to me is Myth #7: You can eat whatever you want as long as you work out. Sometimes people don’t lose weight even though they exercise because they tend to eat more or unhealthily since they think exercising is enough. I find myself falling into this trap a lot. I know that in order to see results I need to eat healthily and have a calorie deficit, but man, junk food is tempting.

Exercise doesn’t just improve physical health, but improves mental health and can boost self-esteem. We all need it, so why not do it right? Throw the misconceptions out the door and start exercising like an educated person.

The Incredible Spread Of #MeToo Visualized

Civil rights activist, Tarana Burke founded the #MeToo movement years ago, and it grew exponentially  via the hashtag following sexual allegations concerning a top American film producer. The #MeToo movement is a means of bringing awareness to and fighting against sexual harassment and sexual assault. The movement has provided an avenue for survivors and individuals to share their journey—a journey that is unfortunately not often heard. The movement aims to de-stigmatize the issue of sexual harassment and sexual assault.

Designer Valentina D’Efilippo and front end engineer Lucia Kocinkova took a closer look at the hashtag over the years and were the minds behind this interactive infographic that documents the movement’s life, anatomy, and footprint on social media.

The infographic compares the #MeToo movement to a dandelion. The creators researched conversations that are indicative of those respective phases, and when the viewer hovers over the seed on the dandelion, they can read those tweets or conversations about key events. The color of the seed represents the number of likes, the size of the seed represents the number of followers, and the pattern represents the number of comments. There is a circle around the center of the dandelion that depicts a timeline as to when each of these events occurred.

The pattern continues to document language that has entered mainstream conversations and looks like it’s continuing to spread.  For a closer look click on the infographic to enlarge.

Crucial Workforce Skills You Need Now to Keep Your Job

We are moving into a world in which machines will soon perform nearly half of workforce activities. While 29 percent of today’s required work is already done by artificial intelligence, it will double to 58 percent by 2022.

Because of this impending scenario, it is important to learn workplace skills that a machine cannot do, in order to ensure yourself a prosperous financial future.

Trending skills include critical thinking and analysis and complex problem solving, since computers can only calculate and perform menial tasks; they have difficulty looking outside the box and taking into consideration abstract ideas.

In addition, machines do not have empathy, so future “human” workforce assets must learn leadership, develop social influence skills, and study ways to improve emotional intelligence over straight IQ.

So, if you learn to think on your feet, collaborate effectively in teams, and communicate with empathy and emotional intelligence, regardless of the industry, you will be valuable to any organization.

The Charming History Of Prom Dresses

Are you ready for prom season? While high schoolers pick dresses and corsages and plan the proposal, they may be wholly unaware of the traditions behind prom.

Prom is, in fact, short for “promenade”, which in the late nineteenth century was a formal introduction to society. When at the time classes were usually held with only same-sex students, these co-ed parties offered an opportunity for young people to meet and celebrate their college graduation. By the 1940s these dances were happening at a younger and younger age, and they resembled pretty closely today’s celebrations.

Of course, prom has changed through the decades. Nevertheless, the idea behind it hasn’t varied much. According to sociologist Amy Best, the choosing of a prom dress involves careful planning as kids dive deep into societal norms around gender roles, economic status, and sexuality.

From showing just a bit more skin than would be acceptable to even attend with a date of the same sex, prom is an opportunity for teens to push boundaries and go against some societal norms. From puffy dresses from the fifties to the ruffles of the eighties and the slick sheaths of the 2000s, nowadays prom dresses look a bit different. Check out today’s infographic for everything you’ll ever need to know about the history of prom dresses.

How To Use Instagram To Grow Your Business

Instagram has positioned itself as one of the most important social media platforms. And where consumers go, marketers follow. Is your e-commerce taking advantage of the opportunities Instagram can offer? Here is everything you need to know to learn how to use Instagram to grow your business.

Did you know that two-thirds of the visitors to Instagram business profiles are people who aren’t followers -yet-? This opens the door to a world of possibilities to expand your marketing strategy. This is especially true when it comes to small and medium businesses: as a very low-cost alternative to traditional advertising channels, Instagram marketing is a cost-effective way to get your brand known among your target audience.

Here are some other reasons that make Instagram a great choice:

Your customers can like your brand even before trying it: People are visual creatures. By putting out a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic in your posts your audience will start to like your product and message without spending the first dollars. This makes it easier for them to buy from your brand.
People are loyal when they feel they can trust your brand: Following the likeability factor, when customers like you they are willing to trust your voice (and buy from you).
You can build strong relationships: If you’re active on social media for a decent amount of time, you’ll already have the leverage of an old relationship. This way, when your audience is confronted with the competition, they’re more likely to go with the brand they know and trust for the longest time.
Want to know more about how Instagram can take your business to the next level? Here are some fascinating Instagram facts that every e-commerce business should know.

Here’s The Plan For A Perfect Mother’s Day

There’s a sharp turn from childhood to adulthood when you start giving gifts to your parents, rather than the exchange going one way- whether for birthdays, Christmas, or other holidays. Mother’s Day can be a particularly fraught holiday, since it can be tough to toe the line between too little and too much. Luckily, this infographic is here to help you out.

Mother’s Day is a big deal in most families, and people spend quite a bit on the holiday. So it’s worth taking some time to plan out your gift, surprise, or celebration in advance.

Statistically speaking, the top three things moms want on Mother’s Day are a nice meal (25%), a gift card (16%) and a day off (13%). Luckily for kids everywhere, these aren’t difficult to achieve: make sure your mom has a day entirely free of work (including household tasks and cleaning up after the party is done), locate a gift card to a place she likes, and book a table at a tasty restaurant.

Ultimately, a word of warning: while this infographic may be a good place to start if you’re stuck for ideas, only you know what your mom likes and dislikes. So make sure you put some thought into her special interests and make her feel appreciated this Mother’s Day.

Helpful Tips For Successful Studying

As the dreaded finals season inevitably approaches and teachers dish out the last unit tests, it’s easy to be overwhelmed with how much there is to study. But it doesn’t have to be stressful.   If done properly, this horrific season of living in the library can be manageable. While this infographic goes over all the important tips to help you study effectively, there is one simple piece of advice that I want to focus on. There is no worse feeling than opening your textbook the night before an exam and realizing you actually don’t understand any of the content you’re going to be tested on and that you only have 10 hours to cram four, thirty-paged chapters into your tired brain. (Not speaking from personal experience). This brings me to one of the first and most important rules of studying: do not wait for the last minute to prepare.

We’ve all heard it, and we’ve all decided to ignore it. Sometimes we are successful and manage to ace the test after cramming and only getting two hours of sleep.  Other times we get completely destroyed and vow “Next time for sure! I’ll start preparing earlier”.  No matter what, it’s scientifically proven that we do better after getting lots of sleep and studying over a period of time instead of cramming.

How To Get Rid Of Cable Without Missing Out

If you’ve given up on traditional broadcast television, you’ve truly cut the cord.  But do you fear that you could be missing out? If so, here’s everything you need to know so you’re still up to date with all the shows you love.

Those who chose to stop paying for cable are instead consuming media over the internet with services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Youtube premium.  It seems like an attractive choice given most of us already pay for several internet subscription services, on top of the traditional cable.

Turns out there is another group out there, the so-called cord-nevers: these are people that never bought commercial cable and instead hopped directly onto the internet wagon.

Regardless of where you stand, there are different options for different people. If you’re thinking about letting go of cable, you’ll have to weight the pros and cons of the current streaming options available. There’s no point in signing up for everything and paying for things you won’t watch! To make up your mind, check out today’s infographic. There’s something about every kind of cord-cutter!

The Strategic Role Of The CIO

CIO’s 18th annual State of the CIO(Chief Information officer) survey was conducted with the objective to better understand how the role of the CIO continues to evolve in today’s business climate and to help define the CIO agenda for 2019. The data this year found that CIOs are broadening their strategic role and collaboration with line of business (LOB) to ensure a smooth maturation of digital business transformation – whether it be leading DX initiatives or overseeing tasks that previously were not in their wheel house, such as data and analytics.

This infographic, based on the 2019 State of the CIO research, explores the CIO’s influence, their new responsibilities, and the challenges they expect to experience as their role and the tech landscape evolve. For example, 88% of CIOs say that they are more involved in leading digital transformation initiatives compared to their business counterparts.

Learn more about the research in the 2019 State of the CIO white paper “CIOs Embrace Strategist Charter as Digital Business Matures.”

How Hot Is The Sun?

Our solar system’s existence is made possible by the hottest star in town:  the Sun. Through its energy, it has been lighting the way for Earthlings to thrive for millions of years.  Although a great ally, we have to keep our distance, because things get pretty hot up there.

As a true star, the Sun is sizzling to the core.  Just like Earth, it has a hot nucleus, where temps can reach upwards of 27 million ºF.  When it comes to size, however, the Sun’s center is around 57 times bigger than that of our planet.

The next two layers (Radiative and Convective zone) see temperatures cool down to 3.5 million and 10,000ºF.  It’s not beach weather, but certainly a huge drop from the core.

The third layer from the Sun’s nucleus (Photosphere) is the light show that’s visible from our planet.  It’s also the coolest layer at around 10,000ºF. Interestingly, the layers beyond this one (Chromosphere, Transition Zone, Corona) see temperatures increase to about 2.5 million ºF.  Normally, the further we get from a fire, the cooler the temperature. In this case, however, the increase in outer layer temperatures is still a mystery to scientists.

The captain of our Solar System has been a target for exploration for a while.  Luckily, we’re far enough to where we can get away with just a sunburn.

Holiday Prep For The Workaholic

Some workers pride themselves on being workaholics.  An obsession with work may drive better performance, but wouldn’t a little balance be nice?

Being a workaholic is, more or less, being addicted to work. It can be because you love your job, because you feel obliged to do it or there’s social pressure to be connected to work 24/7 (hello, America!).   Prioritizing work over other things results in poor life balance.

And now, technological developments have made it even easier to be “at the office” when you’re away, whether it’s checking your emails, writing memos, or just stressing about what might be going on while you’re not there. It’s easy to forget to take a break.

If you suspect you might be a workaholic, here’s a handy diagnostic checklist developed by the Department of Psychosocial science at the University of Bergen in Norway:

1. You think about your schedule to try and free more time to work
2. You spend more time working what you initially planned
3. You work as a way to reduce feeling anxious, guilt, depression or helplessness
4. Others have told you to cut down on work (and you haven’t listened)
5. Your stress skyrockets if for some reason you cannot work
6. Work is a priority over exercise, leisure, hobbies and free time
7. Overworking has negatively impacted your health

If you answered “always” or “often” to a majority of these, take a look at your priorities.  You might be a fully-fledged workaholic.  Follow the advice of today’s infographic by letting go of stress and enjoying vacations. If you’re a work addict, why not give it a try?

Here’s The Secret To Keeping Your Customers

One on one conversation is the key to developing any successful relationship.  Despite the growth of online self-help services, 79% of customers still prefer to speak to customer service over a telephone.

Through calls, customers are able to get the information they need clearly and directly. If they have a complaint, they know they are being heard. If they have a question, they are able to ask follow-up questions if the answer is still unclear to them. Calling is a quick and effective way to reach and satisfy consumers. When businesses refuse to talk to their customers, it’s unappealing and shows a lack of care, which can drive them to turn to do business with competitors.

It’s not enough to just have a customer service option, however. The actual service quality must be good. After a poor customer service experience, 89% of customers are more likely to work with a different business. If there are long hold times, or the representative is unable to retrieve account information, customers can get upset which leads to a  costly loss of business. It can be tricky to have good customer service, but with proper training and a clear understanding of how to deal with customers, it is definitely possible.

The Powerful Reach Of Film Franchise Fandom

Do you consider yourself a true fan? Are you an expert in Harry Potter trivia?  Can you recite lines from the Lord Of The Rings books (or movies)?Do you know all the romantic relationships of Marvel’s finest?  If so, you’re one of the millions of hardcore fans around the world.

“Fan” is basically short for fanatic.  Whereas a casual viewer only gets excited by the ‘new and novel,’ true fans stay interested most of the time. They also perform, share and produce content and activities in a community of practices. This community is what’s known as a “fandom” – a blend of ‘fan’ and ‘kingdom’.

The fandom is the universe of interested parties involved, and a strong fandom can make or break a franchise.  In fact, fans don’t limit themselves to only viewing or reading the official materials, they also do a lot of creation by themselves!

Fans make fan art, write fan fiction and reviews, make videos, build websites and engage in passionate conversations in online forums. They have their own vocabulary, known as “fanspeak” and their own dress code, known as “costume” or “cosplay.”  The literature produced by fans is called “fan fiction” and the music is called “filking”.  Fans get together in person in conventions, “fanzines” or other fan-organized meetings.

To foster brand awareness and identity, big franchises ideally collaborate with fans, connecting with a passionate audience that can do enormous marketing on its own.

Today’s infographic is all about fandoms: which fandoms are the strongest, how fans connect and overlap between fandoms, and how these people move millions of dollars every year. Are you part of any fandom?

How To Strategically Catch The Bouquet

If you have been a single lady and attended a wedding, chances are you probably got in line to catch the bouquet. Did you grab it? If not, here’s the ultimate guide to catching the bouquet… without losing your ladylike grace in the process. Are you ready to fight for those flowers?

From courthouse quickies to destination ceremonies, weddings are full of traditions. Between walking down the aisle, keeping the happy couple separated the night before, and the blue-borrowed-new things, it’s a day with quite a few rules. And what better example than the bouquet throwing after the ceremony? If you’re a girl and have ever gone to a wedding, you know what it’s like to be squished between unknown relatives and sweaty friends trying to catch a weirdly-shaped flower arrangement. It’s even weirder when somebody inevitably ends up on the floor (if it’s the booze or their intent to catch the thing, no one really knows).

Either way, do you know how this especially weird tradition came to be? For starters, brides started carrying flowers in Ancient Rome, because it symbolized new beginnings, fidelity, and fertility. Then fast forward to the Middle Ages, when brides added strong-smelling herbs and flowers in order to scare off evil spirits that might bring them unhappiness.

The throwing of the actual bouquet stems from the belief (also from the Middle Ages) that touching any part of the bride’s body or dress would bring good fortune. This became such an extended custom that attendees started ripping off pieces of the bridal gown for “extra good luck”. Apparently, the tossing of the bouquet was ideally conceived as a distraction so brides could escape the ceremony with their dress intact.

The throwing tradition was adopted in the Victorian era in England, where it spread all over the world. Nowadays, it’s only a fun activity for guests to take some priceless pics.

Technology Use In College By The Numbers

Are you a pencil-lover or would you rather take your class notes with a keyboard? Classrooms and computers are more entwined than ever. Today’s infographic is all about the relationship between students and technology.

Technology and innovation has been creeping into the classroom for years now. As more and more people have incorporated the digital world into their lives, it’s only logical that it has also become part of a well-rounded education.

In fact, using online resources and other technologies helps students be more prepared for the digital future.

Pairing up computers with classroom lessons make the latter more understandable and leads to students making better connections with the real world.

Recent studies even show that  technology in the classroom might also help students retain the material better, when compared with traditional textbooks. I think most of us can agree that well-made apps are more engaging than normal books, and considering that the rising costs of college textbooks leading more students to look for online resources, it seems technology in the classroom is our future.

This connects with the next finding: students are more engaged when their education is paired up with technology. This makes for a more fruitful classroom experience and turns education into a group process.

In the end, technology has the ability to make education more accessible, especially in the case of physical or learning disabilities. Nevertheless, it’s always important to keep in mind that computer access isn’t equal among all groups. In this sense, teachers shouldn’t assume their students are privileged enough to have access to a laptop at all times. If you’d like to know more about this, check out today’s infographic!

The Nations That Will Dominate In 2030

The race to the top of the economic food chain has never been more heated.  Currently, nations like the US, China, and Russia seem to be the main players that influence world markets.  But what will things look like in 2030?

The two heavy hitters in global economics are China and the US, with market values of $23.2 trillion and $19.4 trillion respectively.  Today, these bitter rivals engage in frequent exchanges of tariffs that are worth millions. Unfortunately, consumers and small businesses are the ones suffering the consequences.

A country that’s currently on the rise is India.  Its GDP of $9.5 trillion ranks third in the world.  Within the next ten years, experts predict India’s economy to grow by a whopping 387%!  One contributing factor is the nation’s increasing population, which is expected to surpass China’s by 2026.  Population growth may be good for India’s economy, but detrimental to our environment’s well-being.

Egypt is hardly on anyone’s list of economic powerhouses, but that should change soon enough.  Experts are predicting a 587% growth in the next 10 years for this nation.  That means a whopping $7 trillion boost!

Changes are happening all over the globe and new players are taking over the world market.  As more countries’ economies develop, cheaper goods and services become available. Hopefully, a little competition can bring some benefits to the most important player in the game- the consumer.

Marijuana Laws Across Time And Space

Marijuana- its legalization, its social acceptability, and its health effects- has long been a contentious subject. You’re probably aware that attitudes towards marijuana vary across America, and that’s not only reflected in people’s social customs, but in the legal framework surrounding the drug.

As this infographic shows, there are four ‘types’ of state cannabis programs within the United States: ‘adult and medical use’, ‘comprehensive medical marijuana law’, ‘CBD law/THC product law’, and ‘no marijuana access law’. These provisions range from the most liberal, in states like California, Oregon, and Maine, where weed is essentially legal, to the strictest, in states like South Dakota, Nebraska, and Idaho.

It’s a strange juxtaposition to have such differing legal provisions within one country, and one which is highlighted by an unusual banking practice. While banks now work with marijuana-related businesses, they must still file ‘suspicious activity reports’- over 2,000 of which get filed each month.

Marijuana has had a long and storied history, from its first recorded use in 7,000 B.C. in China, to its federal criminalization in 1937, to California’s passage of Prop 215, legalizing medical marijuana, in 1996. With an estimated 220 million marijuana users worldwide, according to the United Nations, the leafy drug clearly isn’t going anywhere- but it will be a while before Americans agree on what to do about it.

50 Years Of Sesame Street Characters

Learning how to count when we were young was fun and easy, all thanks to Sesame Street.  Having been around for 50 years, it has surpassed the typical TV show life expectancy. Throughout this time, we’ve come to know and love all of its characters.

The first one that probably comes to mind is also the most iconic.  Big Bird has been around from the very first episode, which aired in 1969.  It’s easy to see why, as this fluffy yellow goofball embodies every child with its curiosity.  Bringing positivity every time it appears on screen, the show just wouldn’t be the same without Big Bird.

To balance things out, the creators introduced a character that’s a little less friendly.  Everyone’s favorite grouch that lives in a trash can, Oscar. Every man’s trash is Oscar’s treasure.

One of TV’s favorite bickering couple also lives on Sesame Street.  Originally voiced by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, Bert and Ernie have been getting the best of each other from the very beginning.

The show has been a household name for a long time.  It’s hard to imagine a world without Sesame Street and all of its unique characters.  Happy 50th anniversary, and here’s to 50 more!

Visualizing Poverty Across America

Looking at maps can tell you a lot about a country- how people are distributed, or where population growth is concentrated, for example. One of the starkest visuals, though, is a map of hunger and poverty across the United States, as illustrated by SNAP benefits usage.

SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is the largest federal nutrition assistance program in the United States. Simply put, it provides a monthly supplement for eligible individuals to use on food and groceries, in an effort to combat hunger. Thus, looking at this map of SNAP usage across America offers a good snapshot of poverty and hunger levels across the country.

Regionally speaking, there aren’t too many surprises: as with many other poverty indicators, the greatest hardship is concentrated across Appalachia, the south and southwest, and the Pacific northwest. Other concentrations of hunger occur in urban city centers, such as Cook County, IL, which surrounds Chicago.

However, in Cook County, which encompasses both wealthy and struggling parts of Chicago, 17% of residents use SNAP, while in Shannon, South Dakota, 59% of the population uses food stamps. These numbers suggest that urban poverty may be more localized, confined to small neighborhoods, while rural poverty spreads out over entire states and regions. Either way, seeing the geographical scope of hunger is a necessary first step in order to find solutions that work.

The Far Reaching Impact Of AI

It’s difficult to deny the positive change technology has brought to us. From living longer thanks to antibiotics to talking with people all over the world and getting to know other cultures with just the click of a button, technology has the ability to bring us closer.

On the business side of things, technology increases productivity and operational capacity. The ultimate technology trend is machine learning and AI.  Short for artificial intelligence, AI automates processes and substitutes roles that were previously performed by humans. From selecting the best pictures to harvesting fruit and even doing surgery, AI has meddled in pretty much every aspect of our lives.

Nevertheless, everything isn’t all rainbows and unicorns when it comes to AI. Even Elon Musk says we should be worried. For starters, AI is supposed to be trained using “unbiased algorithms,” but the reality isn’t so simple. Developers are people, so the data they collect is based on a set of parameters given by their own world vision. By training AI with this set of values, their calculations, data and actions will follow our particular vision of the world –racist, sexist and class-based.

Like it or not, artificial intelligence is here to stay. In fact, apparently, AI is likely to dominate the corporate world within a few years.

AI can be troublesome when it comes to unemployment, given that technology is being created in order to reduce costs (AKA lowering salaries).  It’s an unmistakeable trend that none of us are likely to miss.

The Shocking Impact Of A 2ºC Global Warming

For people that live in colder climates, a slight increase in temperatures may be welcomed.  Most will prefer going to the beach instead of shoveling their driveway. Unfortunately, even a small increase in temperatures can be very damaging to life on Earth.

When talking about global warming, the slightest change in temperature can bring about catastrophic changes.  This is why the difference between a 1.5ºC and a 2ºC is like night and day.

One of the most precious resources affected is water.  Temperatures that are a couple of degrees higher can be the reason why 410 million people are exposed to severe droughts by the year 2100.  Couple that with a heat wave at least once every 20 years due to the warm up,, and the situation quickly becomes dangerous.

The opposite results can be seen in ocean water levels.  With more ice caps melting, sea levels will continue to rise and affect close to 49 million people by 2100.  As the water temps also raise, systems like the coral reefs will be gone altogether.

A day in the life of a world affected by global warming is a little scary.  Perhaps everyone should try and pitch in to reduce the risk of destroying our habitat, before it’s too late.

How Your Personality Affects Your Income

Can your personality really have an impact on your income? The data may be able to draw out some correlations. How is your retirement looking thanks to your personality?

Although there are many personality tests, today’s infographic focuses on one of the most widely known: the Myers-Briggs test. Basically this test classifies people according to four traits: introvert-extrovert,  sensing-intuition, thinking-feeling, and judging-perceiving. The theory believes that every person identifies better with one of the traits in each pair, and this makes for 16 personality types that shape how someone behaves and reacts to their world.

Relating this with income potential, there are some interesting trends: for example, extroverts seem to be earning more than their introvert counterparts.  The income associated with your 4 letter personality type (say INTJ or ENTP) may also change over time.

Either way, a study carried out by a German research team found out that more than actual personality, income was impacted by the combination of personality with the personality demands of their chosen work. When you think about it, it’s a bit obvious: of course an extrovert salesman will earn more than an introvert one, and a mathematician will thrive as a thinker rather than a feeling person.

Whatever the relation, income and personality are closely related and it’s worth it to take it into consideration when choosing a career. If you’re curious about what your personality says about your income potential, check out today’s infographic!

Your News Source Has An Opinion. This Is The Way It Leans

Each and every day there are hundreds of media outlets fighting for your attention.  Some are here to inform you, while others just want you to hear their opinion. So where do you go for the most honest news?

Ever since the 2016 US presidential election, the term “fake news” has been thrown around from all sides.  Opposing sides slinging mud at each other create a feeling of distrust and paranoia within the public. Readers are almost forced to pick a side, which can be detrimental to free thinking.

Some of the more unbiased news deliveries come from networks like the Associated Press and Reuters.  Working as a cooperative unincorporated association, the US based AP has been delivering information for almost 200 years.  Reuters is an international company and has been around for almost as long.

The most popular sources of information on current events in the US, especially politics, are CNN and FOX.  Unfortunately, both of these networks tend to give opinions to go along with the news.

No matter what your sources are, be sure that you don’t lose your free thinking.  We live in a world where we have enough information to form our own opinions, rather than reciting someone else’s.

The Biggest Celebrity Gamblers

High profile celebrities are frequently faced with temptations they may be able to justify spending money on.  After all when you have your basic needs taken care of, entertainment is a category where alot of discretion and restraint have to be exercised.

Some have fallen into gambling.  Ben Affleck, for example, is known to really enjoy playing blackjack.  Ben apparently did so well at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas, the casino managers had to ban him from playing.

Other celebs can be quite unsuccessful, however.  Gladys Knight is one of them. The Empress of Soul once lost a whopping $6 million while playing 21!  Sounds like she should have learned some basic blackjack strategies before jumping in with the sharks.

Even if without stepping into a casino, placing bets happens in many places.  Find out what the regulations are because when Tobey Maguire played in an unofficial poker tournament,he was fined $80,000.

Being worth millions of dollars gives you an opportunity to do whatever you want with your money.  You can buy a nice house, go around the world, and still have millions leftover. How you spend it is your business, but there are definitely better things to do than gamble it all away.  Just ask Charlie Sheen.

The Key To A Minimalist Lifestyle

Streamlining our very existence has become a growing trend, spawning tiny homes and capsule wardrobes. The internet is rife with examples on how to achieve more with less.

Minimalism aesthetic usually features clean lines, streamlined designs and sometimes industrial materials. Nevertheless, minimalism has shifted from an aesthetic trend to a whole philosophy of living. At its core, minimalism intends to highlight the things we value the most by removing everything else that could distract us from them.

Minimalism comes as a response to the consumerism that has gained momentum since the beginning of the twentieth century.  In fact, minimalism has gone beyond aesthetics and now encompasses a complete way of life for more and more people.

For example, so-called eco-minimalists try to reduce their ecological footprint by preferring fair trade materials, organic foods and by supporting companies with high corporate social responsibility. The zero-waste lifestyle also stems from the minimalist trend of wanting to live more simply. While the average population is  producing 40% more waste than twenty years ago, zero-waste people are able jam  one year’s worth of waste in small glass jars.

Another popular trend related to minimalism is the capsule wardrobe. This entails limiting our whole closet to a few key items (100, 50 or even 30 items in total) that would make dressing easier and more efficient. It’s even become a famous trend for CEOs and artists who want to spend more time working and less time picking out a shirt.

Find out how to start a shift into the minimalist lifestyle and what it takes!

Child Proof Your Blinds

Between 1986 to 2016, Health Canada received 69 reports concerning the choking hazards posed by corded window coverings. Since then, many window treatment companies,
including EliteWF, have committed to consumer product safety and have developed many cordless window treatment options in an effort to prevent strangulation hazards for young children and small pets.

While homeowners and consumers cannot completely shield themselves from accidents resultant of negligence or simple oversight, there is legislation such as the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act that ensures any products entering the consumer market are safe. The Act requires industries to inform Health Canada of any product safety concerns that could result in bodily harm to the consumer.

Window blinds are a household staple for many consumers’ homes and can be overlooked as a health and safety concern. New cordless blinds are a great option for eliminating the risk of cord strangulation and can often be easily integrated into new smart home technologies.

If, however, cordless window treatments are not currently an option for your home, there are many alternate solutions you can implement to prevent choking hazards and protect the ones you care most about. These simple solutions include: keeping cords out of reach; carefully following the manufacturer’s instructions and warnings; not placing furniture a child or pet can easily climb near your windows; securely attaching tension devices to the wall; installing a tie-down device high up on your wall to keep cords out of reach; avoiding tying knots and untying knots immediately; and removing any devices that form dangling loops.

Following these instructions and heeding any advice or warnings from manufacturers will help to ensure the safety of those living in your home. To learn more about cordless window treatments and child-proofing your blinds, check out today’s infographic by EliteWF.

The Biggest Myth About Mixed Breed Dogs

Golden retrievers are friendly and kind, chihuahuas are anxious, and pit bulls are scary attack dogs.  Stereotypes exist even among dogs!  Yet a dog’s looks may not be reflective of what’s going on inside, and may not even be the major determinant of a dog’s psychology or personality.

If you’re a dog lover, or even if you’ve just been around dogs in some capacity, it’s likely you’ve heard things like “oh, I love that breed because they’re so friendly!” or “dear, stay away, *that breed* is so aggressive!”.  However, for most dog owners and puppy lovers,  those kinds of statements tend to rub the wrong way. What do looks have  to do with a dog’s personality?!

Dogs are so unique that they can have different personalities and one dog can have different traits as they get older (and wiser!)

In fact, research shows that a dog’s personality can reflect their owner’s.  According to researchers, active and outgoing people tend to have friendly dogs with lots of energy, while anxious or aggressive dogs usually have owners with more negative personality traits.

Dog’s traits aren’t set in stone. Just like people, they can learn to behave differently. Just like their owners, pups are complex beings that need understanding and love to really blossom.

If you’re still not convinced here’s the science-backed explanation for a dog’s personality. Enjoy!

Ace Art History With This Guide

Whether you want to impress your next date, or you’re just an art lover, here’s an easy way to understand the basics of art throughout the decades.

We’ve all had that art class somewhere along our schooling where we were introduced to some very basic art history concepts, but really, who remembers even half of that? Except now you want to impress a hot date at a museum, or your little cousin asks for help with their homework, and you’re suddenly trying to remember art history 101.

Art has been present throughout all the history of humanity. In fact, it’s such an ancient practice that it’s been around for more than 70,000 years! In 2018, archeologists found a stone flake with nine red lines that was declared the earliest known drawing made by human hands. The stone was discovered in a cave located 200 miles east of Cape Town, South Africa.

The flake was found in a known archaeological site where the same researchers have found Homo sapiens teeth, tools made of stone and bone, as well as beads made from seashells. Because only Homo sapiens’ remains have been found in the site, researchers are pretty sure they were the ones to draw the lines.

Although we don’t really know how a couple of lines evolved to become the paintings we recognize as such, here’s a handy infographic to guide you through the different trends. Now you can impress everyone at the museum with your knowledge!

The True Colors Of Brand Colors

Did you know that every color evokes a different response in humans? Certain colors are more effective in the clothing industry than technology or agriculture, all because of the way the colors are perceived. So how are customers being affected by the colors that brands choose in their logos? Cool colors like blue, green, and purple evoke feelings of calmness and safety while warm colors like red, orange, and yellow elicit energetic and excited feelings. Because of this, colors like red, yellow, and green are often used in the food industry, while blue and purple are excellent for energy and technology services.

The importance of a brand’s colors also means they need to carefully consider how to best combine these colors to represent their brand. The most common colors used by businesses are blue, red, black, and yellow/gold. Simplicity seems to be more effective and classic when it comes to color combinations — 95% of companies use just one or two colors in their logos and products while only 5% of companies use more than two.

The first thing that a customer notices about a logo is its color. A product’s color influences 60-80% of a customer’s purchasing decision, which is why it is so important to choose the most effective color. If the wrong color is chosen, then it could be very costly for the company.

The Simple Fashion Tips You Didn’t Know You Needed

Nowadays, fashion is increasingly diverse. People, particularly young women, are as likely to pick up fashion trends from a Paris runway as from a thrift store, or an Instagram fashionista. However, while fashion has no rules, it can still be helpful to learn a few basic guidelines before diving into any wilder style choices.

The idea of people fitting into a ‘shape’ category- whether ‘apple’ or ‘pear’ or even ‘overripe banana’- is outdated at best, and can quickly veer into body-shaming at worst. When viewed with a critical eye however, it can be a helpful starting point to learn about lines and how the eye follows them.

For example, this infographic recommends that people with an ‘apple’ shape (rounder in the middle) pick clothes that elongate their torso and create a defined waist. Reading on, it suggests a tapered neckline can make the torso appear slimmer and longer. Of course, this doesn’t mean that people with that body shape have to remain trapped in a purgatory of belted v-neck dresses forever, but learning the visual effect of those shapes can help you either follow or subvert the ‘classic’ look, depending on the effect you want to achieve. After all, you need to know what the rules are in order to break them.

A number of “try before you buy” services have started, like Amazon Prime wardrobe or StitchFix.  They’re a fun way to put some of these fashion tips to use.

Why Your Business Needs Email Marketing

Have you given up on email marketing? You might want to reconsider that.

Even after the rise of social media and mobile browsing, email marketing remains the most effective tactic for turning prospects into actual customers. Stemming from traditional paper ads and sales letters, an email is the closest thing to an actual postcard that businesses can send, and it’s proven to excel at converting.

Against all predictions, email marketing is still the best way to reach out to customers. Mainly because everyone checks their email, and it’s a good way to let your brand’s voice shine through.

Of course, this all depends on your target audience. More women than men engage with marketing emails, though you always risk getting sent into the spam folder. On the other hand, email probably won’t be your first choice if you’re targeting pre-teen kids. Nevertheless, for pretty much every other audience, you should build an email list.

Whether you’re doing business primarily on social media, a blog, or in a traditional brick and mortar store, an email list should be one of the first things you set up. Email provides a great vessel to connect with your clients on a deeper level as if your business were a friend.

Still not convinced? Today’s infographic has all the stats to get you into email marketing again.

The Gender Gap Around The Globe

Women’s History Month may be over, but moments like the Women’s March and the #MeToo movement have led to more visibility when it comes to issues of gender equality.

Specifically, the issues women face in the work place have become a common example of how far we still have to go as a society. Not only are women facing issues when it comes to breaking into male dominated fields such as technology, but once they’ve landed these jobs they still have to deal with the ever-present pay gap.

What does this mean? The pay gap, in case you haven’t yet heard, is the difference in the average salary a man and a woman will earn in the exact same position. For example, statistically a man will earn 18.1% more for the same job with the same amount of experience as his female coworker.

This leaves many people wondering, is this a uniquely Western construction, or a global issue? Check out today’s infographic to find out how America compares with other countries from all over the world.

Right now, Greece has the smallest pay gap between men and women at 4.5%.  On the other end of the spectrum, South Korea’s pay gap is the widest of the nations selected at 36.7%.  Sometimes change starts only when nations see what others have accomplished.

How To Stay Safe On Vacation

Are you excited about that upcoming trip? Enjoy your visit while staying safe with these tips that guarantee a fun vacation.

Any chance to travel and see new parts of the world is worth taking. I don’t mean just international travel, although that certainly has its advantages. Any kind of trip, even if only to a town half an hour away, can open your eyes to other ways of living and broaden our understanding of the world.

That said, it is important to keep in mind some safety tips. Maybe we’re spoiled, but we don’t always realize some of the dangers that lie in plain sight. This is especially true when it comes to places we don’t fully know yet, and it’s even worse if you don’t know the local language.

In order to avoid this, it’s important to do thorough research before you go off on vacation. It’s the small details that will make a world of difference. From knowing exactly what taxis you should (and shouldn’t) take, to where you will stay, and where the local medical centers are, taking some time to plan out your trip is always a good idea.

Even basic security tips like keeping your valuables on you while on transit and leaving any important things locked up while you’re sightseeing can help ensure that you have an amazing (and safe) trip. If you want to know more tips, here’s an infographic with the best safety trip while traveling.

What’s The Best Infographic For Your Business?

We all know and love infographics, but did you know there are different kinds? Interactive infographics offer a whole new world of possibilities. Are you in on the trend?

An infographic is a way to showcase data in a graphical and engaging way. This is especially useful when it comes to large amounts of information or very complex topics. Interactive infographics, on the other hand, are infographics on fire. While it still showcases large amounts of data in a visual manner, it also includes dynamic elements like pop-ups, links, or even animations.

This makes it easier to connect with your viewers because they can customize the information shown to them. This way they only click on what they would like to know more about. This pretty much guarantees viewer engagement, and marketing-wise that’s always positive!

When it comes to choosing between one and the other, it’s best to take your audience into account as well as the type of content and your goals when releasing an infographic. For example, if you’re trying to showcase data that is continuously updated in real life, an interactive infographic could be a great idea. On the other hand, if your content is evergreen, a static infographic might be the way to go. You get the drill! If you want to know more, check out today’s infographic!

The Ultimate Guide To Cooking Oil

Our parents used to only have to choose between vegetable oil and lard. Now, with the rise of organic food, healthy options, and a multitude of weird diets, there are more types of oils than ways you can use them. Here’s a handy guide so you can choose the right oil for your needs.

Sunflower, canola, palm, avocado, olive… apparently, oil can be made from pretty much any greasy vegetable. The wide variety also means you can choose the ones you like better, or you can use different oils for different purposes. Some oils are healthy but won’t suit high cooking temperatures, while others don’t taste like much, but are ideal for stir-frying or pan-frying.

Classic olive oil adds delicious flavor to salads and meats but has a lower burning point and because of it, it’s a bit trickier to use for cooking.  Coconut oil has some hardcore fanatics now that it can be found pretty much anywhere. It can be used for cooking, skin, and hair, however, you should avoid using it in dressings or marinades, because this oil gets solid at room temperature. Avocado oil, in turn, is great for anything but can be kind of pricey. As you can see, when it comes to oils, the world is your oyster! Check out today’s infographic to choose the right one for every occasion.

What Your Favorite Font Says About You

Whether you’re writing a letter to a friend or creating a website, paying attention to details is crucial.  The ways we put our words together and the colors we pick can all become a reflection of who we are.  It’s no surprise that even our favorite fonts can give clues about our personality.

In typography, most fonts that have similar elements are grouped into families.  The serif family includes typefaces that carry a small extra stroke (or line) that’s usually attached to a larger stroke.  The most notable representative of this group is the Times New Roman. If you want something traditional, this is the font for you.

Looking to keep things a little more modern?  Ditch the extra letter stroke and switch to sans serif family.  It seems like an unimportant detail, but it makes a world’s difference.  This group includes century gothic, which many perceive as chic.

For something totally different, you can browse through the display family.  This is where unique fonts like Cooper and Giddyup are sure to bring some playfulness to your text.

If you want to really express yourself and Arial just doesn’t cut it, don’t worry.  There are plenty of other fonts to choose from. Just make sure you don’t spend more time choosing one than actually using it.

How Technology Will Make You Live Forever

Over the past couple of centuries, our life expectancy has skyrocketed. Are you aware of what’s being done today to increase our lifespan even more?

The average life expectancy around the world is, as of 2018, around 72 years for women and 68 years for men. Nevertheless, this number varies a lot between countries, even though women still tend to outlive men in most countries. For example, Japan has been leading the way when it comes to life expectancy, with 85.7 years. Other countries are getting better though, and Spain is expected to surpass Japan with 85.8 years by 2040. Following closely are Singapore, France, Australia, Israel, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy, and Portugal.

On the other end of the spectrum countries like Sierra Leone, Angola, and the Central African Republic show a life expectancy of around 50 years old.

Technology, health care, and industrialization play a big role in the lifespan of people. With the discovery of antibiotics and healthcare access becoming more available, more and more people are able to reach their golden years. In fact, according to a report by the UN, in 2012 around 300,000 people existed over the age of 100. These numbers are estimated to rise to over 3 million by 2050!

Now that vaccines and surgeries are “normal” for around half of the world’s population, technology’s role in lifespan will take the form of robotics, Artificial intelligence, and data science. If you want to know more about the research that will help us live forever (or whatever number comes close), check out today’s infographic!

How To Build Trust Among Your Employees

Trust is the stepping stone in a strong organization. Does your business environment promote trust among its employees?

Trust can be difficult to measure and to achieve. Because it takes a long time to develop naturally it can be a tricky thing to build. This is especially true because many employees easily distrust managers due to past experiences in other roles.

However, good leadership is closely tied to a trusting environment. This fosters healthy relationships among employees, and between management and employees. In fact, when there is trust in the workplace staff morale and productivity increases. According to Gallup, more than 70% of employees feel disengaged in their role. A bored employee dying to go home is bound to be unproductive!

While trust is something that can’t be forced, there are steps management can take to help it build naturally within the company. Things like creating an open environment based on respect and teamwork is one of the best ways to foster trust in your company. By also avoiding micromanaging and carefully delegating tasks, you can create clear ground rules and empower your people. When every team member takes responsibility for their own role, the whole business runs more smoothly.

By creating a sturdy foundation for a successful business, you are ensuring both you and your team have the same expectations and values. It’s the key to long term growth! Check out today’s infographic to discover other ways you can help naturally promote trust within your business.

Of course, even after you think you’ve got it mastered, life happens, and it all seems as if you have to start from scratch all over again. I’ve been there: really living the #fitlife for a few months, and then Christmas happens…Or a business trip…Or somebody gets ill…Or you get promoted.

What to Pack for the Perfect Picnic

What better activity is there than going to a park and having a picnic with your friends and family? It’s finally springtime, the weather is warming up, the grass is greener, flowers are blooming — it’s picnic season!

To begin packing for your picnic, you should start by getting a picnic basket if you don’t already have one. It sets the mood for the picnic and of course is practical for carrying all the food and drinks.

The general list of things you need to put in the basket is food, drinks, plates, napkins, and utensils. I think ice packs are optional unless you have something you need to keep cold. The specifics of the food and drinks are up to you. This infographic offers nice suggestions for bread, fruits, snacks, and desserts.

Other things that you might want to consider bringing: sunscreen to protect from UV rays, a camera to capture the beautiful day and happy memories, and a frisbee to toss around after eating. The infographic also suggests that you bring a speaker to play your favorite tunes, but you could also have a jam session by bringing your own instruments!

Doesn’t all this picnic talk make you want to go enjoy the sunshine? Check out today’s infographic to start planning your perfect picnic.

The Most Powerful Weapons In Science Fiction

If you’re a fan of Sci-fi, you’ve probably wanted to get your hands of some of the iconic weapons that are used in the genre.  From laser guns to planet destroyers, Monday morning rush hour surely makes you wonder how you can obtain one of these devices.

Most of these weapons aren’t readily available in the real world. However, speculating on how much damage they would cause in joules gives a vague idea of just how destructive they can be.

One of the most noticeable trends is that bad guys’ arsenals are much more powerful. Destroying the world requires a lot of firepower, and if this wasn’t science fiction we’d be toast. For example, Optimus Prime would have a hard time defeating Megatron in real life. The ion blaster is overmatched by the dark matter beam by almost 30%.

Those weapons seem like kids’ toys when compared to the most powerful force in sci-fi: The reality bomb. This bomb is equipped to wipe out the entire universe and all its creation. All the survivors are doomed to die of boredom.

If style points are all you’re looking for, you can always get a lightsaber with a Vader suit to match. Just remember, the dark side is hard to resist.

How To Make Every Headline A Great Headline

Any writer knows (the slog and the importance) of writing a great headline. It’s a key way of getting clicks for your links and eyes on your website, but inspiration doesn’t always strike on command. Luckily, this infographic can help ensure you’re never high and dry.

Making people want to read your content can be far from straightforward, and people devote their careers to buying the right ads, securing sponsors, or even organizing wild PR stunts. It all starts, however, with a great headline.

There are plenty of go-to tricks you can use if you’re ever stuck in a creative rut. For example, try asking a question; people will feel instantly engaged. Similarly, “do’s-and-don’t’s” in a headline immediately tell your readers they’ll get a practical solution out of your article.

Some elements will depend on the content of your piece. Emotional appeals are strong, because people often make split-second decisions based on emotional reasoning, but equally, factual appeals can give your writing an authoritative voice and boost your credibility. Similarly, if they work with your content, try putting some numbers in your headlines- they’ll immediately tell your readers that you have a structured idea to present. Whichever tactic you choose, there’s plenty to pick from- so you’ll never feel short of headline ideas again.

Your Guide To Retirement Savings: 77 Facts

How much is enough? If you’re unsure about how much to save or how long your money will last, here’s everything you need to know about retirement finances. It can be trickier than you’d think!

Even though most of us have heard about the need to retire, statistics show that most of us aren’t doing anything about it.

A lot has been said about saving $1 million for retirement, but that might not be your magic number. In fact, it depends on your lifestyle. If you retire after saving $1 million, you’ll be living with around 40K per year for 25 years or so. On the other hand, if you want to spend 100K per year, you’ll have to save $2.5M. Yep, that hiked quickly.

The thing is, you have to be realistic when calculating your retirement goal. If you’re living with 150K per year, it’s quite unlikely you’ll feel comfortable living with 40K when you retire. In that case, you have two options: either you start living with the budget you want to retire with, or you increase your savings goal to achieve the lifestyle you’ve grown accustomed to.

On the other hand, inflation is a real thing. This means you not only have to save your earnings, but they also need to be invested with a steady return. If not, you’ll be losing money in the long run. I know this can be a bit complicated. Take a look at today’s infographic to find out everything you need to know about how you need to save for retirement.

How To Write PhD-level Essays

Essays can already be overwhelming… enter high-level education, and most students feel lost. Fear no more here’s a handy guide to writing essays like a pro.

Essay-writing is often dreaded by students. Sitting in front of a blank page just to write is daunting even for seasoned writers. If you’ve only just begun to understand the topic of your essay, things can get messy. The key here, as with most things, is baby steps!

The first step is always figuring out the topic and the purpose. If your teacher assigned you a topic, you’re in luck. If you have to come with an original idea, this step involves a bit more research. Once you’ve settled on a topic, decide the purpose. What do you want to accomplish? Do you want to persuade or inform the reader?

Now comes the research part. Read and look online so you have a general idea of the topic.

Then, it’s time to make an outline. This organizes your thoughts into comprehensible tidbits of information. This step involves thinking about what aspects of the topic you want to delve on, what you might want to overlook, and what you need to research further. This is an excellent opportunity to organize your previous research. If you find that an item in your outline has zero research jotted down, read a bit more on it before moving forward. Finally, it’s time to write!

If you want to know a little bit more about how to write expert-level essays, check out today’s infographic. You’ll be writing professional essays in no time!

How Powerful Is Your Passport?

Traveling around the world has never been more possible than it is today. Attractive travel posts on social media and cheaper airfare have led to peak interest in globetrotting. There’s even increased interest in solo travel. To plan your vacation freely, however, you’d have to have a strong passport.

Depending on where you’re born, you may enjoy certain traveling benefits that people from other places can’t. German citizens, for example, can visit 159 countries from around the world visa-free. Considering there are a total of 195 countries, that’s a pretty nice luxury.

When looking at the other nations respective freedom when it comes to crossing borders, a pattern can be noticed. Places that have strong economies, stable governments, and regular sized populations have more powerful passports. This is probably due to the fact that their native citizens are less likely to end up migrating to the country they are visiting.

War-torn states like Afghanistan, Sudan, and Syria can only visit 22, 36, and 30 countries without a visa, respectively. Sadly, because of the mistakes of a few, all have to suffer.

In a perfect world, everyone would get a chance to travel the globe in their lifetime without restrictions. There’s a lot to see and not enough time. So before your next trip, check out this handy graphic to find out how strong your country’s passport really is.

Creative Ways To Display Your Houseplants

Houseplants add color and personality to any room. If you want to make yours even more unique, check out these crafty ideas to showcase your plants in style.

Plants can be very beneficial for people. Not only do they add a beautiful touch to your décor, but they also absorb Carbon Dioxide and release Oxygen into your home. They are effectively serving as air purifiers (only cheaper). The indoors, while apparently harmless, can foster a wide array of toxins and chemicals that are dangerous in the long run. Ammonia, Benzene, and Formaldehyde are only some common chemicals easily found indoors. From common allergies to full-blown asthma attacks, these compounds can affect your daily life.

By adding a couple of houseplants, you’re helping to clean and purify the air in your house while avoiding any nasty side effects from harmful chemicals. Enjoying a bit of greenery around the house has also been found to decrease stress levels, increase productivity, and foster happiness. What more can you ask for? Of course, some plants are better for this than others. Keep an eye out for spider plants, snake plants, and aloe vera.

Display your green beauties in style with these 8 creative ways to showcase your indoor plants. Let go of the classic terracotta pot and try some new things. You might be surprised at how stylish some of these can be!

What You Need To Create Epic Content

It’s a fact: if your content isn’t good, no amount of marketing or SEO is going to make your business stand out. Here’s everything you need to make your content 10x better than the competition!

Good content is, without a doubt, the key to a successful online business. It allows you to establish your own voice in a saturated market, and it connects with possible clients while building authority.

The difference between a forgotten startup and a successful business is that the latter offers its viewers valuable and relevant content that connects with the target audience. The better the content you’re putting out, the more your readers will start trusting your brand’s judgment. Of course, as you probably already know, trust is the foundation of fruitful, long-term relationships.

Naturally, good content should also follow at least some optimization guidelines. This will make it easier for search engines to find you.

Even though it seems like the most basic of things, creating high-quality content can be daunting and difficult. To help you with it, the guys at SmartBlogger put together this handy infographic with everything you need to know about how to craft amazing content.

From researching to headlines to testing and letting the world know about your new masterpiece, today is all about making the best, most epic content you can. Start improving your online presence today!

Save even more money, without suffering in the process. Here are some clever ways to save extra money every month.

So you want to start saving more. That’s great! The first step is making a budget. In order to achieve this, look closely at your income and your spending. Grab a notebook or make a spreadsheet and write it all down; everything you receive per month and your expenses. To make this easier (especially when it comes to listing your expenses) start by the usual payments you need to make: rent, taxes, mortgage, subscriptions… In order to make sure everything is right, check your accounts and look at last month’s movements. That should give you a close idea of your usual spending habits.

Then, jot down coming expenses that fall outside your “normal” spending. This means birthday presents, holiday shopping, a wedding, a trip, or even a season where you know you’ll be eating out more (ie. finals week!). Now comes the fun part: calculate your monthly expenses and your total income. Deduct your expenses from your income, and you’ll be left with your pocket money.

Of course, sometimes that pocket money can seem like too little. How are you going to retire and achieve financial freedom if you only save 50 bucks per month? If you want to know how to save even more, check out today’s infographic.

What Today’s College Student Looks Like

What first comes to mind when you envision a college student? Do you think about the newly turned 18-year-old with a brand new roommate who’s getting out of the house for the first time? What about the working parent who is getting out of night class just in time to pick up their kids to do it all again tomorrow?

As an adjunct professor at a college, I can attest to the fact that college students in the United States look like these two characters and many, many more. The college student population is a diverse one and is ever-changing—especially with more opportunities for e-learning.

While 72% of college students are still grinding it out in the classroom, 14% are in hybrid programs (both online and in the classroom,) and the remaining 14% are taking their classes solely online. The majority of college students are under the age of 21, but 8% of people 40 years of age and older are still reaching their academic goals by attending school.

The margin is a little narrower when it comes to employment with 38% of college students who aren’t working, 36% who are working part-time, and 26% who have full-time gigs. These findings cite a graduation hinderance in the post-secondary education arena. Many programs are designed for, what I call, “traditional” students (i.e. fresh out of high school who are going to school full-time). The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is calling for institutions to help level the playing field when it comes to tailoring programs to the needs of all these types of students featured in the chart.

The landscape of education is changing! Are we changing with it?

15 Email Hacks To Make Your Next Campaign Go Viral

Is email marketing still relevant? Well, the jury is back and email is still one of the most effective communication channels between business and customers. Here are 15 hacks to make your next campaign go viral!

The growth of social media platforms has had many marketers and advertisers claim the death of email marketing. Apparently, there’s nothing further from the truth. Email campaigns can be a big hit or a huge miss — the key is in the content. If the information you’re sending isn’t relevant to your recipients, you’re going straight to the spam folder.

What makes email marketing so effective is that these people voluntarily shared their email with you. This means they’re interested in what you have to offer. Now, your role is turning that interest into sales. This is the advantage over social media, where content is filtered and not every one of your followers will get to see the things you post.

The key to good email marketing is proper list segmentation. In layman’s terms, this means you can’t send the same exact email to everyone on your list. You should select what kinds of content every kind of client should receive. This can be as simple as segmenting it by gender, age, the topic of interest, or it can be as complex as applying different filters and ending up with different lists for every campaign. The world is your oyster! Here are 15 hacks that will pave your road to a viral campaign.

Why You Should Never Underestimate Local Marketing

When you’re searching for somewhere to eat or shop, you wouldn’t think of googling establishments in a different city, right? So why do so many businesses fail to pay attention to local marketing?

Anyone who tries to sell any kind of product or service is aware that there are always marketing challenges to overcome. One way for marketers to make life easier for themselves is to shift their priorities to local marketing.

The numbers are concrete: 46% of all searches on Google are seeking local information. Considering the rest are (one can assume) porn and memes, that’s a mind-blowing percentage. Similarly, 86% of consumers rely on the internet to find a local business, and 29% search for local businesses at least once a week. A whopping 30% of Google mobile searches are relating to location – all of which means there are customers out there, waiting to be found.

So what’s the takeaway? Well, if you’re not optimizing your marketing to attract those local consumers, you’re missing out. For any kind of brick-and-mortar business, attracting clicks and attention from around the world doesn’t actually mean much if people aren’t walking in and spending cash. By focusing on local customers, businesses can be more efficient with their marketing and get a greater bang for their buck.

The Scary Numbers Behind Dementia In The US

Do you know anyone living with dementia? Chances are you probably do. In fact, it’s so common that it has been called an epidemic, and numbers will only increase.

According to the World Health Organization, around 50 million people are living with dementia, and it’s only going to increase in the coming decades. This is such a common condition that someone is diagnosed every four seconds around the world!

In the US, around five million people live with dementia. Among patients, most dementia cases are because of Alzheimer’s disease, followed by vascular dementia. As people live longer dementia cases will increase, and a study predicts that around 13 million Americans will be diagnosed with dementia by 2060.

Nevertheless, age-related dementia risk has decreased in the past years. This means that people are making wiser health choices, causing a later dementia onset. This trend could also be due to higher education levels, better access to health services, and preventive measures to control blood pressure and other cardiovascular issues. All of this contributes to effectively diminishing the possibility of vascular dementia.

As you probably know if you’ve been personally affected, dementia care is expensive. It’s such a common condition that, if the money spent were a business, it would surpass the biggest multinational companies by a lot! In the end, there are lots of resources dedicated to researching and trying to fix dementia: from pharmaceutical companies to universities and care centers. If you want to know more, check out today’s infographic!

Quick N’ Dirty Guide To Mexican Food

Who doesn’t love Mexican food? Tacos, quesadillas, and salsas have slowly grown to reach our dinner tables, but there’s more to Mexican food than tacos. Here’s everything you need to know!

First, a bit of history. Mexican food is mainly based on native crops like corn, tomatoes, avocadoes, beans, and cocoa. Common staples like rice and wheat came from Europe but quickly became part of Mexican cuisine.

Most Mexican dishes are pepper-heavy. Not only the super spicy ones we’ve come to know and love but also some very subtle tasting peppers you might not even know are there. Bell peppers, guajillo, jalapeños, and poblanos–peppers are what give Mexican food its distinct flavor. Each dish can change not only by the type of pepper but also the preparation it goes through, like chipotle (AKA smoke-dried) or mulato/ancho (unripened/ripened poblano).

On the other hand, corn (although sometimes eaten whole) is often found in the form of delicious tortillas. These thin flatbreads are cooked in a pan and they can be baked, rolled, wrapped, fried, or eaten on their own.

The kind of Mexican food we’re mostly accustomed to is called “Tex-Mex”. These are Mexican dishes influenced by US styles and ingredients. Tex-Mex food is usually rich in shredded cheese and cumin, which aren’t commonly found in traditional Mexican food.

Step out of your Mexican comfort zone and get to know more dishes besides the traditional tacos. Get ready to enjoy some delicious meals!

Easy Ways To Spot A Liar A Mile Away

Did you know that more than 80% of lies go undetected? That means people have been lying to your face all this time. Save face and avoid misunderstandings, here are some basic signs that make it easy to spot any liar.

For starters, people lie all the time. Most of these lies are petty and small–whether or not you ate that piece of candy, how old you are, or how much you weigh. The key to spotting a liar is to know the signs. Once you’re in the loop, it’s pretty easy to know if someone is telling the truth. This is how police officers, FBI agents, and even mediums know whether they’re on the right path or if a suspect is lying through their teeth.

As everyone has slightly different telltale signs, professionals start by setting a response baseline. This is achieved by asking basic and non-threatening questions that would elicit a “normal response”. This lets you know how someone behaves when telling the truth. It’s important to ask enough questions to observe a pattern.

Then, start by asking questions that you know might elicit lying, and observe subconscious cues in facial expressions, eye movement, and ways of speaking. Body language often changes when someone is lying, so you should also take that into account.

If you want to know more about spotting a liar, check out today’s infographic!

46 Easy Hacks To Boost Your Ecommerce

Everyone knows the importance of optimization, but how can you really do it? Here’s how some big companies have boosted their websites and optimized their online presence. Get ready to take notes!

Optimization is one of the keys to any business’ success. In the end, an optimized website will increase both the quality and quantity of your site’s traffic.

Optimization means making it easy for search engines and people to scan through your website, so they can find important information faster and more efficiently. This involves the classic keyword placement, that is, using target keywords frequently enough so people can find your site when searching those words. It also includes design elements like placing your logo in the right place.

Having an optimized site simply means making it easy for visitors and search engines to navigate it. Choosing the right colors, words, and tools will contribute to your audience getting to the pages that interest them faster, as well as making your site look professional and complete.

You should also make sure your site works as well on mobile as it does on a desktop. More and more users go online exclusively on their phones, so make sure it’s a smooth ride in every platform.

Take a look at what other successful businesses have made to optimize their websites.

Crazy Ways Emoticons Boost Team Productivity

Emojis are life when it comes to posting on social media or texting friends and family, but in a work environment? Get your smileys ready, too!

Emojis have become so ubiquitous that the “language” is becoming an essential part of workplace communication and team culture.

These faces let you relate better to your audience, but are also a way to establish an emotional connection with other teammates. Of course, if you have a good emotional connection with the team, everybody feels closer, more connected, and happier in their role.

Emojis are so effective because we react to them as we would to an actual human face. Really! The round face of emojis gives us the unconscious feeling that we’re actually “talking” face to face with the rest of the team. The older variant “:-)” works as well, although it isn’t as effective as the newer ones.

In a work setting, adding emojis won’t affect credibility, and instead will strengthen your bond with the team. Emojis can serve to get across the nuances in workplace communication by clarifying your tone of voice, answering more quickly and efficiently, and building rapport.

So, unless you use them inappropriately (no flirting please!), emojis are a great addition to the workplace.

How To Make Your Email Marketing GDPR Compliant

In 2018, the EU implemented a new regulation covering customers data protection. Have you updated your own marketing campaigns?

The General Data Protection Regulation (Aka GDPR) has affected every business in the EU, as well as any company doing business in the continent and dealing with EU customers’ information.

Simply put, the GDPR aims to protect data and give customers more input on the data collected about them. This means that EU customers now have the right to be informed, right of access to their personal information, and right to control and manage automated decision-making and profiling. This can be very difficult for marketers, as most marketing strategies are based on user information that hasn’t been specifically authorized.

In the case of email marketing, you will probably need to refine your consent forms in order to comply with the new regulations. The bigger changes will be seen in subscription forms: gone are the days were checkboxes were checked by default, or you had to purposefully unsubscribe from extra subscriptions. Businesses are now forced to give clients the choice of subscribing, and every checkbox should come with a clear explanation of what you’re consenting to.

Even though it might be a bit uncomfortable for businesses to change their email forms, I believe this is positive in the long run. Customers will be more informed and will have more input on who has their personal data and how it’s being used.

If you want to know more about how your emails should look like, check out today’s infographic!

Pairing The Right Plants For Better Growth

Have you heard of the sayings, “You are who you hang out with” or, “that kid is a bad seed?” Well, the same concept applies to plants…sort of.

In natural ecosystems, certain plants can help or prevent another plant from flourishing. The same applies to the vegetable garden sitting right outside your kitchen window. Some plants can sap nutrients from their counterparts, while others lend the very nutrients they need to keep them thriving.
While tomatoes and potatoes may be a nice combination on your plate, they will not prove to be the best companions if paired next to the other in your garden. Tomatoes tend to thrive better with basil, oregano, carrots, and celery, just to name a handful. While beans “get along” with plants such as cucumber, strawberries, lavender, sunflowers, brinjal, and cabbage, the opposite is true when it comes to beans paired with onion, garlic, and fennel.

Nasturtium is said to improve the taste of tomatoes if placed near each other. Not to mention, the combination repels white flies and spider mites. Talk about a double benefit! Calendula plus tomatoes can also keep the bugs in your garden at bay.

Now that you’re armed with this information, perhaps you can help your plants “hang out” with some “good” seeds.

Why A Voice-Optimized Site Is The New Future

Voice search has come to stay. How is your business getting ready for it?

Alexa, Siri, Cortana, Echo… more and more companies are investing in voice search, and it’s for a good reason. Many gadgets nowadays incorporate voice control features, and people are taking a step back from texting and writing. Instead, they’re starting to talk to their electronics to accomplish common tasks.

Whether you want to lock the door, send an email or find a recipe for dinner, with the right tools you can use your voice to accomplish it all. Technology has made it possible to reduce errors, making more and more users opt for voice commands. These new digital assistants are rising in popularity because they make it so easy to search even when you can’t reach your electronics.

As a marketer or business owner, it’s important to optimize your websites to accommodate this growing mode of searching. Voice commands behave very differently from traditional written searches. People using voice commands are usually very clear on what they need, so you can really tailor the information to suit those needs. Leveraging voice search allows you to boost your website’s traffic and user experience. If you have properly optimized your content, people will get their answers faster and it will reduce bounce rates.

Today’s infographic has all you need to know about voice search. Get on with the trend!

Why Coworking Spaces Are The New Norm

Where do you do your best work? Do you function most efficiently in a quiet environment like a home office or library?

Perhaps you like a little bit of action going on while you are getting things done and prefer to set up shop in a restaurant or coffee shop.

With so many people choosing to work from home, work remotely, or to work as a freelancer, the landscape of the workplace continues to change. Coworking spaces are ever-increasing in popularity, and various regions are receptive to the concept in different ways. Asia Pacific donned the highest number of coworking spaces in 2019, while EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) followed in second place. The United States came in third, while the United Kingdom finished fourth. China is projected to be one of the regions with the highest amount of coworking spaces by 2022.

89% of people polled report that they feel happier since choosing to work in a coworking space, while 83% of respondents say they feel less lonely since becoming a part of the coworking space. But it’s not just a desk and WiFi that some of these coworkers are paying good money for. Some spaces offer fitness amenities, healthy snacks, meditation areas, and standing desks.

If the four walls of your home office are looking a little bleak, a coworking space just may be for you.

9 Easy Rituals For A Better Day At Work

If you like what you do, you’re always looking to get better at it. Reaching a peak level of performance every day can be challenging. One simple way to raise your quality of work is by doing daily rituals.

Although they may seem like silly superstitions, performing these tasks has been shown to have some serious benefits. Researchers have found that small rituals can help reduce anxiety before big events. Just ask Cristiano Ronaldo, who makes sure that his right foot touches the grass first as he enters the field.

You can even start with your rituals before you leave the house each day. For example, finishing off your morning shower with ice cold water will improve your circulation and get you ready for the day.

In case brain freezes aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other options. Simply counting your breaths can help you prepare for important business meetings by getting your into the right mental state. Breathing exercises can improve other areas of your life as well.

Another helpful ritual for many is that of keeping a journal. It provides an easy way to organize and process everything that might be going on around you.

So next time anxiety creeps up, be sure to use one of your rituals to help you regain control. Good luck!

The Scariest Infectious Diseases Of Our Time

Every so often, a deadly virus swipes across the world resulting in millions of deaths. Some of them have been around for many years, yet we still have no cure for them. Although advancements in medicine have made treatment possible, another pandemic may very well be around the corner.

The world’s deadliest infectious disease in the last century has been the Spanish Flu. It’s a variation of the influenza virus that has caused anywhere between 50 and 100 million deaths worldwide. The strain responsible is the widely known H1N1 subtype. It’s also the main culprit in the recent outbreaks of the swine flu.

Another deadly virus that’s taken its toll in the last 40 years is HIV. Since the first clinical observation in 1981, it has caused over 35 million deaths and counting. Scientific breakthroughs have made the illness somewhat manageable, but it still remains one of the biggest threats to humanity.

With the constant movement of people across the globe, disease can be spread very easily in today’s world. Even though vaccines and immunotherapy can provide some relief, the threat of future pandemics remains very high. Ultimately, prevention and staying informed continue to be the greatest weapons in this battle.

72 Ways To Think Visually

People often present ‘visual thinking’ as an inherent skill- either you have it, or you don’t. (And those who ‘have’ it are often portrayed as more creative and artistic than those who ‘don’t’.) But in reality, visual thinking can be learned and improved in a myriad of ways, such as coming up with new ways to conceptualize information.

Everyone learns in different ways, and it can be truly valuable to determine your learning style. But it’s not all nature; you can nurture your learning styles as well, and that includes picking up strategies to think more visually. Visual thinking, after all, isn’t just for your benefit- it can be a key method of presenting information to others in a clear and understandable way.

Some of these methods may already be obvious to you: most people have encountered a pie chart and a Venn diagram, after all. But there are as many ways of thinking visually as there are ways to configure a set of information. Charts like decision trees, abstract analogies like a speedometer or Chernoff faces, analogies like onion layers and bookshelves, and allegories like evolution or food chains can all help categorize, classify, and present information. The key is to pick which method works best for you, and adapt it for your particular set of facts.

Dressed For The Part: What You Need To Know About Dress Codes

Dress codes are everywhere,  but do you really know what all of this “business casual” means? When in doubt, check out today’s infographic!

I think everyone can agree dress codes are a set of rules. What most of us don’t realize is that these rules are often unwritten. Of course, no one on their right mind would visit the Queen of England wearing tattered jeans and dirty converse, but every social function in-between isn’t that easy to dress for. Is that dress too tight for your cousin’s wedding? Are sneakers OK for a Wednesday at the office?

In the end, dress codes are a reflection of the values of a society as a whole. On the bright side, they bring cohesiveness to a group. On the other hand, they can also promote a one-sided vision of the world, one where being different isn’t a positive thing.

When thinking about dress codes, whether you’re the one following them or imposing them, it’s good to pose the important questions. Would this be discriminatory against someone´s religious beliefs? Does this rule come from a privileged (and often race-biased) point of view?

Although I’m not proposing a full-fledged rebellion against the system, these are necessary questions that more and more people are thinking about. For example, after the shooting at two Mosques in New Zealand in March 2019, a private school was prompted to explicitly allow its students to wear hijabs if they wanted to. On the other hand, more and more high school dress codes are being revised to acknowledge some discriminatory trends against female and black students, as well as ethnic minorities.

When To Book Your Perfect Disney Vacation

Imagine a perfect day in Disney World: lots of sunshine, not too hot to be unbearable, and no crowds. Sounds impossible? Although you can’t really control the weather, it’s possible to avoid crowds –if you know these insiders secrets! Here’s everything you need to know to avoid the long lines when visiting Disney World.

Disney is incredibly popular. Huge castles, your favorite characters, themed restaurants, and thrilling rides are all in one place. Come on, you can even watch wild animals just as if you were on a safari! Truth be told, the worst part about this vacation is standing in lines. On a bad day, you could be in line for half the time you actually spend on the park. That’s waaay too much for my taste!

Of course, you can always try those fancy VIP passes Disney offers. They allow you to skip the lines, making it easy to enjoy all the most popular rides without standing for hours in the sun. Except, what if you don’t want to spend that kind of money? Going to theme parks is usually a big, planned vacation, and line-skipping passes might simply not be in the budget.

Either way, there are some tips that might be useful to skip the crowds, even without paying extra fees. Getting there early, for example. If you’re visiting during the busiest season, you have a slight advantage: parks open earlier and stay open longer. I know it’s supposed to be a vacation, but if you make the effort to get up at the crack of dawn, you’ll be able to hit fan-favorite rides without the crowds.

You could also stay inside the parks. Being right there guarantees zero commuting time, ensuring most of your day is spent enjoying the parks instead of going back and forth to your hotel. It might be pricier, but worth it.

Finally, check out today’s crowd calendar for 2019! It has all the info so you know exactly when the parks are the least busy, so you can book your trips accordingly.
Are you ready to have a magical vacation?

50 Empowering Quotes From Fictional Female Characters

The best inspiring quotes from fictional female characters. You might be surprised at how current some of these are!

Before we delve into some of the best quotes ever said by female fictional characters, I want to question the very existence of the “strong female character”. Today’s infographic is title “empowering female characetrs” for a reason.

The creation of the strong female character goes hand in hand with the existence of its mirror: the damsel in distress character. The latter has been criticized by not having goals or motivations besides being saved (usually by the male hero).

In this light, strong female characters were created to become a positive contrast. The thing is, this so-called strength is usually limited to the physical trait, and the character is left simple and under-developed.

The strong female character remains flawless and morally adequate (in contrast to their male counterparts). They are tougher, sassier and “better” than the male characters in their path. They also stand in contrast with the traditional damsel. The strong female character “is not like most girls”, and that’s supposedly a good thing. How are “most girls”? Why are feminine traits perceived as “weak”, “dumb” or “unworthy”?

Where male characters are described not only as strong, but as anything between smart to weak, brave and rough, females are either “strong” or damsels. That’s pretty simple for a human, ya know?

In stark contrast to this stereotype, there are strong characters (that just happen to be female). Many characters are well-written, and are female: Hermione Granger (in the books), Sarah Connor (until Terminator Genesys), and Ellen Ripley (from Alien).

As a side point, flat characters are common for male and female alike. So we just need better characters altogether. As writers, and consumers, we ought to ask these questions. We have to demand strong characters, male and female. We need human characters on books and on screen. In the meantime, check out these empowering quotes by fictional females. Who wouldn’t want a t-shirt with some of these?

How To Re-Focus When You’re Distracted

Each day we are flooded with large amounts of information from hundreds of different sources. Processing it all can become so overwhelming that it gets in the way of our responsibilities. You probably have at least ten other things you’re thinking about right now! Luckily, there are ways we can get our brain to refocus on the task at hand.

There are various theories as to why we tend to lose our concentration throughout the day. Scientists believe the main reason is a depletion in the energy reserves that our brains use to function.

Once your mind starts to wander off, you can try a few quick tricks to settle it back down. In recent years breathing exercises have been gaining popularity. Simply taking deep breaths and counting them in your head will bring focus back in a hurry.

A surprising way to regain concentration is by chewing gum. Although the jury’s still out on the scientific explanation of this phenomenon, research results have shown that it’s true.

These tricks and more can help you get your brain back on track when you need it. Just be sure you don’t find yourself blowing bubble gum bubbles during and important meeting.

How Coffee Took Over America

A few decades ago, coffee in America meant a big communal pot of acrid, filtered slush that was omnipresent in every office and barely drinkable. It’s almost hard to remember with our present reality of cold-brewed, nitro-pressed coffee shops on every corner. Without a doubt, the journey that American society has undergone–becoming a nation of coffee fiends in the process–is a fascinating one.

There’s a lot to learn about coffee, and it’s only getting more popular: a full 69% of Americans drink 2 or more cups of coffee a day. While multiple cultures claim to have originated the coffee-drinking habit, the first confirmed record of coffee being drunk comes from Yemen in the 15th century.

In the 17th century, trade with the Middle East swept coffee into Europe, where it proved instantly popular; the Dutch, Parisians, and Venetians were particularly keen early adopters of the tradition. By the 18th century, coffee had reached the New World, with revolutionaries drinking it in lieu of tea as part of their protest against British taxation. James A. Folger even began marketing the drink to miners during the California Gold Rush. Nowadays, with 29,324 Starbucks shops around the country, it’s clear that coffee is an all-consuming love affair…and America isn’t about to break up any time soon.

The Truth Behind The “Autism Epidemic”

Are we facing an autism epidemic? Autism diagnosis have risen greatly since the start of the twentieth century. Are you aware of the causes behind this? Check out today’s infographic!

First off, hold your horses. Experts state we really can’t talk about an epidemic per se, mainly because the rise in diagnosis also stems from a growing awareness of the condition, as well as changes to the condition’s criteria.

Because there are no specific blood tests, brain scans, or other “objective” tests that can diagnose autism, doctors rely on observation and behavior to diagnose. In simple terms, the criteria for autism are “problems with social communication and interactions, as well as restricted interests or repetitive behavior”; and both of these symptoms must be present in early development.

According to the stats, around five more boys than girls suffer from autism, and the trend only seems to be getting stronger not only in the US but worldwide. Nevertheless, it’s difficult to assess the real prevalence of autism, given that many kids aren’t diagnosed, and stats come usually from school and medical records that many families don’t necessarily have access to.

If you want to know more about autism, this infographic has all the basics you need to know!

Create A Meeting Agenda That Actually Works

Productive meetings seem to be a bit of a myth for many, and if you ask pretty much any executive, they’ll tell you meetings are more often than not boring, unproductive and inefficient. Many times, you’ll leave the room feeling like you’ve wasted two hours of your life that you’ll never get back and that you could have spent being productive.

This general feeling shouldn’t mean that meetings have to stop altogether or that a company doesn’t need them. In fact, meetings are the right place to brainstorm and give feedback. A successful meeting is possible, and it all comes down to strong planning.

A productive meeting is one that stays on topic, but how can you stay on topic if you aren’t sure what the topic even is? This is where meeting agendas come into play. They aren’t difficult to plan out, and won’t take you too long to craft up. Most importantly, even if you do take a lot of time planning out your meeting agenda, you’re making sure the meeting itself happens in the most efficient way possible.

The steps are simple. First, open the meeting reviewing the agenda for the day. This way, everyone will be on the same page. Then, address each topic according to their priority level. That’s it. Pretty easy, huh? Ready to try it out?

Vital Steps For Preventing Child Identity Theft

Identity theft is a serious and very expensive problem that’s been affecting a great number of people lately. Unfortunately, it isn’t a problem that’s affecting only adults, as much as adults have Jedi mind-tricked themselves into thinking it is.

In the United States alone, 15.4 million people had their identities stolen. Out of those, over 1 million were children, and at least two-thirds of those were under the age of 7.

Basically, identity theft is the acquisition of another person’s personal information to use it illegally. Many identity thieves sell the information on the black market to people who often use it for financial gain. For example, thieves will use Social Security numbers to make transactions as if they were other people.

It is worrying, but there are some clear, tell-tale signs of identity theft you can look out for. If your child is receiving credit card offers in the email or the IRS claims that your child owes taxes, you should check what’s going on.

Identity theft is something that should be treated carefully, as the consequences could potentially ruin your child’s life forever. Being unable to get bank loans and being ineligible for student loans, getting arrest warrants issued in their name, or even being unable to apply for driver’s license are all potential problems you can prevent with a few, simple steps.

Retrain Your Brain To Stop Obsessing Over Work Mistakes

We all make mistakes. It’s as human a trait as anything. However, work mistakes can feel particularly momentous, particularly if there’s a financial or reputational cost. It’s easy to lapse into negative thinking, but with a few targeted strategies, you can break the cycle of obsessive thinking.

In general, retraining your brain to break bad habits can be a key way of improving your life. When it comes to working mistakes, the basic principle is no different. First, try to reduce self-criticism by avoiding absolute statements like “I’m inadequate” or “I’m a failure” and focusing on relative and subjective statements like “I feel like I’m inadequate”.

While being distracted can lead to mistakes in the first place, once you’ve already goofed up, a bit of distraction can help reset your brain. This can mean calling a friend to vent, taking a walk, or even making yourself a hot drink. A slow breathing exercise can also help decrease your stress levels.

Most importantly, make a plan to get things back on track. The key is to start small and outline each discrete step while being specific and realistic in your expectations. Soon, you’ll be so engrossed in the planning that the stress over the mistake will be gone, and you can set things straight instead.

How Is The Internet Getting Older?

Many countries around the world are grappling with the same issue: their citizens are getting older and older, as people live longer and have fewer children. What may surprise you is that the internet is undergoing a similar transformation; it’s no longer the exclusive domain of young people.

The stereotype of ‘elderly Facebook user’ can sometimes be the subject of derision and humor, often due to the typos or confusion some older users experience online. While you may fear for your elderly relative’s internet safety as they might be targets of scams or increasingly scary viruses, it turns out they’re as addicted to their devices as the rest of us. The average baby boomer is actually spending 27 hours a week online.

In some ways, older people use the internet like everyone else, with 78% saying they use it to keep up with their topics of interest. However, a full 33% see the internet as a trusted source of information–potentially dangerous numbers in a post-fake-news world. 66% of older people use the internet to access news or other information with Fox News, Bloomberg, and Weather.com being cited as popular destinations. What’s certain, though, is that older people are getting more and more connected, and their influence on the internet will only continue to grow.

Easy Hacks To Make Your Fav Jeans Last Forever

Finding a good pair of jeans is much like finding the perfect romantic partner: it can take years of searching, cause floods of tears, and the last thing you want to do is let them slip away once you’ve found them. While love might remain as elusive as ever, there are a few tips you can try to make sure your jeans last a lifetime.

The key to helping your jeans last might seem counter-intuitive, but it starts with not washing them. Of course, some types of clothes need to be washed more often than others, and your jeans will still need an occasional clean if you’re not willing to sacrifice good hygiene for the sake of fashion.

These hacks, however, can yield clean jeans without the need to stick them in a washing machine. One easy option is to freeze your jeans, which some say will kill off stinky bacteria…other studies are less certain. You can also spritz your jeans with a mixture of vodka and water or vinegar and water, which will freshen them up. (In retrospect, this combination, via a series of accidental spills, must have kept my jeans in great shape during college.)

If all else fails, you can stick your jeans in the washing machine — it’s not the end of the world. Just make sure you turn them inside out and air dry, and your favorite pair will stay safe.

The Surprising Truth Behind Neck Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient practice, but it’s still mysterious to many people. Does it actually work, and if so, how? Does it hurt? Is it dangerous? This helpful guide can answer some of those questions, and explain how acupuncture can help those with neck pain.

Neck pain is one of the most common ailments in people young and old. Your posture can contribute to pain, but so can muscle strains, nerve compression, and injuries like car accidents. Neck pain can present in different ways, too, sometimes causing stiffness or headaches.

While–disclaimer–acupuncture has not been proven to work in standard scientific studies, many people do find it reduces their pain. The practice claims to reduce pain by expelling blocked ‘chi’ from acupoints, through the insertion of needles.

The best way to treat neck pain, though, is still prevention. That can mean taking frequent breaks while working at a computer or reading, practicing good posture by ensuring your hips and ears are directly in line with your shoulders, avoiding tucking your phone between your chin and shoulder, and the classic health tip: quitting smoking. Overall, it’s easier to prevent neck pain than to treat it, but if it develops, it may be worth consulting a doctor about acupuncture.

An Ultimate Guide For Marketing To Gen Z

It’s a brave new world for marketing, and the rules of well-executed millennial-centered campaigns no longer apply. Gen Zers aren’t willing to just click on your ad and follow your brand to the throes of death just because. Gen Zers are a marketing challenge while being a generation whose growing spending power is almost $200 billion.

If you want to dive into this sea of college-aged people with their ultra-discerning eye, congrats! You’re heading in the right direction! Gen Z is the future, and they are revolutionizing the world in ways people are just beginning to grasp.

According to several studies, Gen Zers discard online ads three seconds faster than Millennials. This is a generation that was born into the internet, they own it, and they know its ins and outs. They apply ad-blocking tech like they apply sunblock on holidays.

Many brands wonder how to engage people with an 8-second attention span. In short, brands have to stop looking at Gen Zers only as consumers and start seeing them also as collaborators. This is a generation of wizards of ROI who could become your brand ambassadors.

To achieve that, you need to offer them something beyond a simple product: you must offer them an experience. In a world of social media and instant rewards, Gen Zers want a brand to make them feel. Are you up for this challenge?

Easy Ways To Naturally Cure Insomnia

For some of us, the sight of our bed automatically adds extra weight to our eyelids. There are some people, however, that really struggle to fall asleep at night. Fortunately, there are quite a few natural remedies that can help with insomnia.

In order to function normally during the day, humans need a certain amount of sleep. For various reasons, some people just can’t reach the level of relaxation required to drift off into dreamland.

One of the biggest causes of insomnia is anxiety. It seems as though our brains tend to sabotage us right before we fall asleep by making us worry about pointless things. The best way to deal with this is to take control of your mind by practicing mindfulness meditation and/or exercising during the day.

Other possible reasons for difficulty falling asleep may be related to a lack of some nutrients. Lack of magnesium, for example, is linked to insomnia. Eating foods like nuts, seeds, and veggies should help you catch some extra z’s at night.

The battle with insomnia can be challenging for some people. A lot of times it takes more than just counting sheep to get quality rest.  Trying out some new natural ways to doze off can’t hurt. Just be sure to set an alarm for the morning in case they work.

Sweet dreams!

The Growth Of This Household Industry Could Surprise You

Growth trends and industry forecasts are often discussed in large-scale terms that deal with large industries: construction, agriculture, technology. But within each industry, it’s equally important to consider growth stratagems in more niche areas. And when it comes to construction, the latest area of growth may surprise you: kitchen cabinetry.

Reading about construction and real estate can lead to all sorts of wild, speculative thinking- including what it might be like to sell a house in outer space. But big changes happen closer to home (literally), as well. Specifically, there’s been a small but significant rise- 4.82%- in the sale of kitchen cabinets, compared to this time last year.

There could be several reasons for this. The median age is 26, which this infographic notes is ‘prime home-buying age’- although given the modern housing market, many millennials would dispute that statistic. More likely, a boom in new home building has driven the increase in cabinet-building, as each new home requires kitchen cabinets.

Kitchen cabinets, as any other sort of fittings or furniture, will change with the times: builders and designers are predicting that metal cabinets may become more standard in the future. Whatever they’re made of, it’s clear that the demand for kitchen cabinets is not slowing anytime soon.

The Top 50 Animated Movies Of All Time

Animated movies may appear childish, but they are quite a lucrative business. It seems like every year there’s at least one box office hit that earns millions of dollars. You’d be surprised to find out just how much money they make from you and your kids.

When looking at the top 50 highest earners of all time, there’s only one movie that missed the half a billion mark: Toy Story 2 fell just short, but not by much.

The highest grossing animated movie of all time is Frozen. It has earned close to $1.3 billion from you and your kids during its time in theaters. Seems crazy, but you’ll just have to let it go.

Once the production companies find some success with a movie, they tend to pump out sequels. Of course, every child would like to see their favorite characters on the big screen with a new story! That’s why sequels rack up just as much dough as originals.

With movies like Lion King out this summer, get ready to shell out some more cash at the movies.  Maybe this is a good opportunity to bribe your kids to do some extra chores and earn it. Otherwise, they can just wait for it to come out on local cable.

Dating Apps: How I Met Your Father

Millennials always seem to follow the beat of their own drum. It seems like finding new practical ways of doing things is at the core of every new technological advancement. It should come as no surprise that dating has also been revolutionized with apps like Tinder.

With a single swipe, you can be on your way to building a life together with your soulmate. It’s also possible that you’ll be making your next regrettable mistake, but that’s a different story.

Current statistics show that 20% of relationships start online. That number is supposed to more than triple within the next twenty years. So if you’re doing some swiping right now, that means you’re ahead of the curve. Congratulations!

With a wide variety of apps on the market, chances are you’ll find what you’re in the mood for. This even includes a platform where Donald Trump fans can be romantic together.

Dating apps have their cons, however. Lying about personal information on social media is quite an epidemic. That guy that said he’s 6 feet tall may disappoint you when he shows up without his heels.

Whether you like it or not, Tinder-like apps are here to stay. Let’s just hope that someday we’re not doing the actual dating online too.

How And Where Our Time Gets Lost at Work

Time is a limited resource, so we have to learn how to make the best of it. There are several ways in which you can stop wasting time. They are inexpensive and super easy to follow, you just have to get ready to apply them in your daily life.

The first great tip we offer today is to organize and prioritize. As obvious as it may sound, many people just fail to these simple things at work. Many workers will just say ‘yes’ to any project that comes their way. At the end of the day, they will have ten different projects going on, all unfinished, and not enough time to properly work on them.

After you prioritize your work, the next step is to make a to-do list. We cannot stress enough the benefits making these lists will provide you in the long run. When you have a to-do list, you know for sure what you should be working on. This way, you’ll be able to easily track your progress at the same time that you avoid the temptation of wasting time in small tasks.

You see, multitasking is one of the greatest ways to waste time. Almost everyone feels powerful when multitasking, but in reality, doing several things at the same time just makes you less productive. While multitasking, your attention splits between several different things. If you can’t focus properly, your results will be sloppy and, more often than not, you’ll have to get re-do most of your ‘done’ tasks.

Are you ready to stop wasting your time at work?

Easy Ways To Naturally Cure Insomnia

In 2019, no one can deny social media has had a great impact over the world. We communicate in a different manner than we did only 15 years ago, and we interact with people around us in unique and special ways thanks to social media.

For better or for worse, private people have found a way to express their opinion through social media. Many people even believe social media has actually strengthened their bonds with friends and family. But how has social media truly changed the way the world does things?

Economically, social media has had a great impact on markets and dynamics. Businesses on all five continents use social media to spread their brand messages, bringing their products to a wider audience. Before, mass media advertising was everything. Now, entrepreneurs can get followers through social media. It might not be easy, but it’s considerably cheaper.

The most significant impact social media has had on our lives is undoubtedly its social ramifications. Many barriers have been broken when it comes to communication and networking. We can be in touch easily and immediately, to the point that time and distance have stopped to matter.

Clearly, not every single person has embraced technology in the same way. Older people have had a rough time adapting, so it’s up to Gen Zers to lead this world. Take a look at how the younger generation experiences social media and its impact on their lives.

Tricks To Deal With ADHD Naturally

If you suffer from ADHD, you may want to pay attention to the information presented here. Well, at least try to pay attention.

A growing problem in the US, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) now affects around 5% of the population.

The standard way of dealing with this condition is by using prescription medications. Although drugs like Adderall and Concerta may relieve symptoms, they are a double-edged sword. Some of the possible side effects include loss of appetite, headaches, and mood swings. Some users also report a general unpleasant feeling when using the medications.

So is there a different way to deal with ADHD? Consider prevention before treating the symptoms.  Some of the things that may trigger this condition include stress, overuse of technology, and lack of exercise. Ditching the smartphone and going for a jog can make a world’s difference in your daily routine.

Getting all the necessary nutrients can also be beneficial in the battle against ADHD. Certain foods can be great sources of all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.

Congratulations, you made it to the end of the article without getting distracted! The only thing left to do now is to get up and go for a walk.

Subtle Ways Investing In UX Affects Your Bottom Line

There isn’t a widely accepted definition of UX design. For many entrepreneurs and users, the term may sound foreign and confusing. Essentially, User Experience is a vast and complex net that ultimately conveys every single aspect related to the interaction between the user and the product, including everything that entails.

As you can guess, the letters UX represent User Experience, and its design is something that businesses spend a lot of time and effort developing. In practice, user experience design includes many different disciplines, from visual design and architecture to engineering and informatics design.

A successful UX design aims to improve customer satisfaction and ultimately engage the customer in a lasting and loyal relationship with the brand, going beyond the product itself. But, how to improve the satisfaction a customer gets from your product? Whether it is a digital or physical product, it has to fulfill the customer’s needs on usefulness, ease of use, and pleasure gotten from interacting with it.

However, if you are planning on developing a successful UX design, you need to think about a lot more than just its function and its beauty. You must also take into account how the customer will react to the product when it comes to emotion. Don’t hesitate to hire experts to determine your buyer persona so that your business will be able to cater to specific needs.

The Science Of Habit: Popular Habits Vs. Popular Addictions

Did you know the “gaming disorder” is now considered a disease by the World Health Organization? As unexpected as it may sound, the inability to stop gaming has now been included in the International Classification of Diseases.

Maybe this “gaming disorder” doesn’t sound as serious as other problems, such as alcoholism or drug addiction. However, digital addiction is becoming a growing and quite serious problem. The World Health Organization and big corporations like Google and Apple have acknowledged this situation, but people remain in the dark about just how easy it is to become an addict given our current technology.

Most apps and social media platforms have developed a reward system that keeps you hooked. Receiving ‘likes’ in your posts becomes an instant satisfaction that can grow into an obsession if you are not aware of its effects. Social media apps, games, or even shopping platforms hire professionals to develop persuasive messages that make you want to stay online all the time.

If these platforms are specially designed to make you want to stay, how can you fight digital addiction? We recommend developing a hobby that occupies your time and engages your mind. This doesn’t mean you should never use your social platforms, but remember, addictions grow almost without you noticing. So, it’s better to always be aware of its possible repercussions.

Morning Tips To Help You Start Your Day Like A Boss

If mornings are hard for you, then you aren’t doing them right. Sure, not all of us are morning people, but that doesn’t mean we can’t own our own mornings. Something as simple as waking up early will translate into amazing benefits in the short and long run.

One of the best ways to start your day is to do a 15-minute stretching routine. This will pump you up just like an expresso shot right to your brain. The only difference that this energy boost will last you all day long. Just as you wake up, try to stay away from electronics for a while. Checking your email or social media will stress your brain out.

Use your mornings to plan your day, in case you didn’t the night before. Set an achievable and realistic to-do list, and allow yourself a little ‘me-time’ away from distractions. Think about what you have achieved so far and your next goals. This will keep you motivated and happy, even during those days you aren’t at your best.

In the mornings, we recommend you listen to upbeat music. This will subconsciously stimulate endorphin production and will make you feel happy and relaxed throughout the day.

Most importantly, eat a healthy breakfast. Skipping breakfast is a common habit, but it isn’t a very healthy one. Having a good breakfast is the only way to get enough energy inside your body for your brain to start working properly.

Combating Assignment Stress: The Modern Solution

Student life is gradually changing with technological progress that opens new opportunities. Educational approaches evolve, and students experience stressful situations more often. College entrants and high school students should address these challenges. This requires finding new solutions and making quick decisions. In their academic pursuits, college freshmen search for new patterns of facing multiple challenges. They set ambitious goals: good performance in schools, staying socially active, and survival in this rush. It’s not easy to combine all these activities without applying for the assistance of third parties.

How Can Students Address Academic Challenges?

At some point, students realize that excellent academic performance in all subjects is a myth. Attempts to cope with multiple duties may result in stress. Therefore, they apply for academic writing, and the reasons are as follows:

The pursuit for writing assistance – professional academic writers can complete custom papers of any complexity
Obtaining samples of papers – students can use the ideas from paper samples to brainstorm for their papers.
Why Are Students Searching for Experts to Write Shortcuts?

As a rule, students don’t have time for completing written tasks. The most common reasons for this are:

the necessity to study and work simultaneously to pay tuition fees
the desire to pay more attention to family members or socialize with friends
inability to get an extension when unexpected circumstances emerge
certificates students get after a course completion add confidence when applying for a dream job
insufficient level of English
maintaining focus on the mandatory subject rather studying secondary disciplines.
Additional Reasons to Apply for Professional Help

Continuous pressure associated with insufficient time available for completing assignments is enhanced by:

the necessity of covering the average tuition fee per year ($8,000 on average)
the need for allocating time for studies every day (minimum length of online courses is 135 hours)
the obligation to write 35 pages on average to complete one course
the inability of completing tasks individually due to low levels of English (high requirements for the level of English for international students).
Annual Tuition Fees as Motivation to Delegate Written Tasks

Many students try to find jobs to pay tuition fees and separate from their parents. Even part-time employment takes a minimum of 20 hours per week to cover living expenses and tuition fees. As a result, little time is left for studies, and they don’t have a choice but ask for external assistance in completing written tasks.

Average tuition fees in some English-speaking countries:

United Kingdom – $12,000
United States – $10,000
Canada – $5,000
Australia – $5,000
Popular Types of Assignments Ordered by Students

More than one-third of college essays is written by professionals (35%)
One-quarter of all ordered custom papers make various assignments (25%)
Research papers make 15% of all papers written for students
Roughly 13% of papers ordered are the tasks of advanced complexity (dissertations, Capstone projects, reviews)
7% of term papers are written by experts
The remaining 5% are courseworks

The Trick To Designing Your Home Office For Productivity

Working from home can report many benefits in the short and long run. Thanks to apps like Slack or Skype, employees can communicate and co-operate as easily and efficiently as if they were all working in the same place.

Clearly, one of the main advantages that working from home provides for you, is not having to commute to work every day. Not only will you avoid spending unnecessary time waiting in bus stops or driving around, but you’ll also be in a better mood than if you had to suffer through being stuck in traffic for over half an hour.

Now that you’re staying home to work, your productivity can increase significantly. Yet, just staying at home to work won’t immediately turn you into a productivity ninja. The key to being productive at home is to have an encouraging work station.

Your home office has to be a place free from distractions, and (if possible) away from most of the noise. This means finding a quiet corner to set up a comfortable desk where you can work. Try to keep your work station decluttered and bright. This will lift your spirits and keep your mind focused for a longer period of time. Remember, take breaks to stretch and drink water, but don’t go away from your home office for long!

Best Ranked Countries For Women In The Workforce

Which countries are best suited for women who are in the workforce? PwC’s Women in Work Index 2019 released its findings before March 2019’s International Women’s Day. The infographic covers 33 countries selected by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Some of the factors that contributed to the findings include equality of earnings, job security, and access to employment opportunities. This information from PwC was compiled by Forbes and Statista to assess where women’s workplace equality ranks on a global level.

Beyond being an important issue of equality, the research also noted the potential economic benefits (we’re talking trillions of dollars here) should the OECD nations mimic those nations that ranked highest. Since women make up a little over half of the global population, having them in the workforce can greatly help boost any country’s economy. Forbes estimates that the collective GDP would increase by more than $6 trillion if all of the OECD countries followed Sweden’s lead as the best-ranked country for women in the workplace.

When put that way, it makes it difficult to understand why more countries aren’t trying to emulate Sweden’s shining example. Check out today’s infographic to find out where your country ranks on a global equality scale.

Why Multiple Screens Are The Key To Productivity

How much time do you spend every day writing emails that need source material? How much time is spent looking up numbers in one document that you need to complete another document? Probably, you would answer these questions with ‘not much’.

It takes the average person about 1.5 seconds to change documents already opened in their computers. While this doesn’t sound like much, at the end of the weeks you would have spent lots of hours just switching between one document and another. Now, what if you didn’t have to switch at all? What if all documents were open and on sight at the same time?

This is what having multiple screens offers you. According to several studies, the size of your screen does affect your productivity. Designers, for example, have proven to be 20% more productive when using two screens at the same time.

Still, having multiple screens isn’t something reserved for designers and illustrators. Having more than one screen can increase your productivity if you are working on data entry or drafting a document using source material. Also, if you want to compare products side-by-side, having multiple screens is the right choice.

Even if you just want to play video games on your computer, having more than one screen can change your pace. How? Easy, you can play in one screen, while having chat boxes open in the other.

Small Time-Saving Changes You Need To Make At Work

Globalization has changed the world forever. The pace in which we move is getting faster by the second, and (as they say) time is money. That’s why you should definitely try to be as productive as you can, and then some.

In order to increase your productivity, you need to plan your day before it starts. Planning ahead will help you stay on track and actually do what you need to do instead of wasting time on small tasks that aren’t as important. So, how do you lay down an efficient and effective plan for your day?

The first thing you must do is to determine the importance and urgency of each of your tasks. Once you do this, you’ll be able to know what to set as first on your to-do list. Tasks that are both urgent and important should, obviously, go first.

As we mentioned, this is a globalized world, and this means you will always work alongside a team. The main reason you should aim to identify your teammate’s strengths is that a successful team player knows when to delegate. Delegating tasks will immediately make you, and your team, more productive.

Remember, your plan for the day should specify how much time you’ll spend doing your tasks. This way, you will actually force yourself to be productive, as you have a time frame to stick to. Get ready to productive!

9 Secrets To The Perfect Home Office

Are you more productive from an office or from your own home? This has been an ongoing debate for some time. Still, there’s something to be said about working from your home.

According to a recent study published in the Harvard Business Review, people who work from home are more productive than people who work from an office as long as they work the same office schedule. Although this may seem hard to believe, many employees consider the office environment a constant distraction. The silence and privacy that your home provides can be a great asset when it comes to increasing your productivity.

Many freelancers state that working from home provides them the freedom to create and shape their workspace to their own needs. This is fantastic when you consider that now, more than ever, businesses and companies value the creativity of their employees. Increasingly, consistent creativity is being prized over many other qualities.

The first step to creating your own home office is to think like a mouse and find the quietest corner you can. When working, try to get away from small distractions: children, TV, your dog, the fridge…the list goes on. Once you find the right place, all you need to do is to follow the tips we offer you today. Ready to be productive?

9 Mistakes That Are Ruining Your Morning

Are you craving your bed even though it’s barely 10 AM? It’s likely you’re committing these 9 mistakes that will definitely put a damper on your workday.

Boost your productivity and earn that long weekend with these expert-approved tips designed to supercharge your mornings.

Starting your day on the right side of the bed, so to speak, will set you up for success and productivity all day long. If you’re feeling tired and fed up only a couple of hours into your workday, you probably have some bad habits that are making you feel that way!

To ensure you enjoy your time at work and improve your productivity, it’s important to establish a healthier pre-work routine.

Yep, you read that right. Just like you get ready for bed, you need to get ready for work in a healthy way that will set you up for success.

For starters, you need to sleep enough. Many Americans don’t get enough shut-eye: 40% get less than 7 hours per night. It sounds so simple, but we could all use the reminder: you won’t have energy at work if you aren’t properly rested.

If you do sleep enough, try squeezing in a bit of healthy exercise. This can be anything from a couple of minutes of meditation to a full-blown workout sesh.

Once at work, organize your mornings for effectiveness and productivity. Check out today’s infographic for all the info you need to boost your workday morning!

Bug Infestation Averted: Tips For Naturally Repelling Bugs

Dealing with household pests can be one of the most unpleasant (and for those who fear bugs, terrifying) experiences a homeowner or tenant can face. What makes it even worse is the knowledge that oftentimes the same chemicals that you use to kill bugs could cause health risks for you, your children, or your pets. That’s why some people are turning to natural fixes to get rid of their bugs- without the complications.

Finding pests, such as termites, can be half of the battle. If you don’t want to have to go on a bug-finding, search and destroy mission, you can use these methods to repel bugs so they never turn up in the first place.

For example, if you’ve got an ant infestation, try a peppermint spray. Use water, witch hazel, and peppermint oil in a spray bottle and spray it around entry points where ants could be getting in. For bed bugs, diatomaceous earth is an easy natural fix – you can just buy a large bag at any home goods store and sprinkle it around affected areas.

Of course, for more serious infestations you may still need to consult a professional, but hey! By trying these natural fixes first, you could save money and avoid filling your home with toxic substances.

The Crazy History (And Future) Of WiFi

Have you heard about the new Wi-Fi 6? Take a look at the history of WiFi and see the possibilities the future holds.

It wasn’t that long ago that we could only access the Internet as long as nobody was talking on the phone. Fast-forward a couple decades later and we’re all carrying one –or more- smartphones as if they were another limb.

Technology is here to stay, and more than 90% of American households have at least one device connected to the internet. In fact, most homes have around 25 smart devices connected to their networks. By 2022, the typical American home will have around 50 smart devices, all hooked to the internet.

If you thought your good ole’ router would still be up for the task in a couple of years, think again. Most homes have routers from 2008 and later. This means, you probably already have WiFi 4 and Wifi 5.

The problem with that is there are only so many devices it can support, and the more devices connected, the slower it gets. But there’s an answer: Upgrade to WiFi 6.

In November 2018, the WiFi Alliance (yes, that’s the actual name) unveiled their new tech. WiFi 6 improves wireless efficiency in your home network, allowing for multiple sources to simultaneously handle streaming while working with even more data.

Want to know more? Today’s infographic will take you from the dark past of the internet to the bright future…powered by WiFi 6, of course.

Halloween By The Numbers

Halloween is a season for all ages.  Make a statement with costumes, pickup some treats for the kiddo. This holiday never gets boring.

The origin of the holiday comes from the night before the Christian day, All Saints’ Day or All Hallows’ Day. This is a day to commemorate the saints of the church, those who are known and those who are not known. The name Halloween derives from All Hallow’s Eve (the night before All Hallow’s Day), which in Scottish eve is even, and is often contracted to e’en or ‘een’. The reason for the ghouls and the skeletons is because this is the final night they have before they’re scared away by the saints.

It’s a great tradition for young children to get out and about and meet new people, greet neighbors and learning about dealing with strangers.

Despite Halloween only being one day a year, there is a huge market and the sheer numbers are staggering. With the holiday being celebrated internationally and an impressively high uptake, a significant amount of money is spent for Halloween and plenty of time is used carving pumpkins, decorating houses.

Find out where the focus is in today’s infographic.

Why Impostor Syndrome Is No Fake

Many people, particularly as they embark on a new career, degree, or another form of activity, feel unsure and insecure about their abilities. To a certain degree, that’s perfectly normal and healthy–after all, no one has it all figured out right away, and humility can be useful for personal growth. However, if you find yourself questioning your judgment all of the time, or assuming other colleagues know everything you don’t, you may be suffering from Impostor Syndrome.

The key tenet of those suffering from impostor syndrome is the fear that they will be “found out”; that someday, someone will figure out that they’re a fraud and that they’re faking it. Of course, this fear is illogical, even more so because so many people suffer from it. Impostor Syndrome is rooted in the idea that everyone else is the ‘real deal’, but chances are, most people around you feel equally ill at ease.

There are a few flavors of Impostor Syndrome, so to speak. The “perfectionist” sets impossibly high standards and criticizes themselves for failing to meet them, while the “expert” feels like they have to know everything. The “superwoman/man” (and women are more likely to feel like impostors in male-heavy spaces) think they should excel at everything, while the “soloist” thinks they should do it all themselves. Then there’s the “natural genius” who thinks everything should come easily or it doesn’t count. Of course, these are all illusions, and recognizing them as such is the first step to owning your successes.

How Adding Video To Your Campaign Will Boost Your ROI

It’s official: you need video to stay on top of your marketing game in 2019. Are you doing it right? Here’s everything you need to know.

Marketing trends come and go, and it looks like video is one of the lucky few that are here for the long haul.

In fact, more and more consumers report that they prefer video to other kinds of advertising. Sharing and liking a video has become more common than doing so with a regular post.

In fact, many companies have boosted their conversion rate just by adding video content, and 75% of Instagram users have clicked on a company’s link after watching a video.

This means that this is a way of communication that cannot be overlooked. From live streaming to Q&A sessions and even IGTV, video is here to stay.

Even Google is acknowledging it, making video more searchable using closed captions and voice recognition.

Whether its virtual reality or adding stories to your marketing strategy, to achieve continuous growth it’s important to incorporate video into your social media outreach campaigns.

Want to know more? Check out today’s handy infographic with all the stats you need to know to make video a key element of your next campaign.

40 Ways Dogs Are The Ultimate Companion For Kids

Dogs have long been known as man’s best friend.  And what about kids? They can keep kids from crying, make them laugh, fetch toys, follow them around as personal chaperones, do sniff health checks, and protect babies even if it means risking its own life.

In return, kids have a reliable and true friend who is a non-judgmental listener, always willing to offer company, someone to share interests and activities. Dogs do all that and much more. They teach children about empathy, how to cope with stressful situations, learn and explore the world through touch, develop emotional intelligence and how to enjoy the world around them.

That’s not all though. Research has shown that babies who grow up around dogs are much healthier due to stronger immune systems. Furthermore, since a dog’s saliva is antibacterial, therefore, they keep babies free of germs simply by licking them or kissing them.

So, go ahead and discover all the ways a dog can be a companion for child.   A dog will never ask for any compensation in exchange for being with a child, except for maybe a big hug.  While you wouldn’t be leaving your dog alone with a baby, dogs do provide great company.

The Secret To Using LinkedIn For Your Small Business

Tattoos have always been a slightly taboo form of art, but maybe that’s one of the reasons that we love them so much. From celebrities to your family members, odds are you know somebody who has at least one. You may even be thinking about getting one yourself. If so, here’s what you need to know before your first tattoo.

Around 40% of adults in the U.S. aged 26-40 have at least one tattoo, and that number increases every year. While still a touchy subject in some circles, tattoos are becoming more and more common. Even in the workplace, some businesses are starting to lighten up on their tattoo policies. The acceptance of this form of art may be slow going, but who knows? Maybe someday tattoos will be viewed as casually as makeup!

If you’re thinking of making the leap and getting your first tattoo, then it’s worth reading up on them a bit first to know what you’re getting into. Knowing how to take care of your new tattoo as well as knowing exactly what you want, are both very important. For example, if you’re worried about pain you may want to do some research into what spots to avoid when deciding your new tatt’s placement.

To get you started, here are 13 stats to know about tattoos in the U.S.

The Weirdest Mythical Creatures That Live in Your Home

At some point in our lives, we were all interested in mythical creatures and folklore. No? Well, maybe it was just me… Anyhow, I just can’t stop thinking and reading more about it! It’s quite interesting when you go deeper into the history behind these folklore creatures.

The cute depictions of these fascinating folklore creatures are amazing! I think I may have even seen a Matagot while visiting Paris on my vacation… Well, maybe it was just a stray cat, who knows really, but the properties of a Matagot seem to bear more good news than bad news. At least that much is nice!

I am interested though, what are your experiences with mythical creatures? I’ve heard the Icelandic people believe in elves… Do you believe in these interesting myths? Perhaps it’s just my childish mind, but man oh man is it fascinating to read about all these unique little fella’s. Though, some of them don’t seem “little” per se…

The most interesting looking one would probably have to be the Boggart from English Folklore. Look at it! It’s like Bigfoot! Except somehow it’s not in American folklore. Hey, maybe that just further proves the existence of Bigfoot… Who knows? I really don’t.

Taking The Mystery Out Of Spices

Cooking can seem like a mysterious venture for the uninitiated, and nothing causes more head-scratching for beginner cooks than spices. What goes together? How do you know how much to use? Often it can seem easier to just buy a pre-mixed blend, but those are usually more expensive, less fresh, and contain more preservatives and artificial flavors than the raw ingredients.

Luckily, it’s not hard to get to know which spices work. Of course, the only way to find out what you like–and to fix most, common cooking mistakes–is to keep practicing and taste at every step. Remember, it’s a lot easier to add more in than to take flavors out.

While you can mix together whichever spices you like, there are a few classic blends that everyone should know how to whip up. For a great pizza or pasta sauce, make an Italian blend with basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Or, on the sweet side of the spectrum, mix up some pumpkin pie spice with cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves. You can say goodbye to expensive pumpkin spice lattes (and cakes, and muffins, and everything else) and use your homemade blend all autumn long.

The When And Why Of Cheese Knives

What’s your favorite type of cheese? There are so many to choose from, it might be too difficult to decide on just one. If you love cheese as much as I do, you’ll want to know everything to possibly maximize your eating experience.

This ranges from how to cook with different types of cheese all the way down to the smallest details, like which type of knife is best to use with the different kinds of cheese.

I’m constantly on the lookout for new things to learn about cooking and food. That’s why I was delighted and surprised to come across this infographic about the different ways to use specific cheese knives. I’d never even thought to use a different knife to slice cheddar than I would to dig into a wheel of brie.

Not only does using the right knife make slicing cheese easier and safer for you, but it also ensures that the cheese slices will look better because the cut is smoother. If you want to host a fancy dinner party, or if you want to sit at home and eat a block of cheese in your pajamas (no judgement) now you’ll know which type of knife to use to enhance either experience.

How To Become A Google Power User

Ahhhhh the secrets of search. These simple shortcuts can help you step up your Google game tremendously. I learned almost every one of these hacks during college. I’ve written hundreds of pages of reports and have used google to research thousands of different things. Utilizing these tools create a much easier way to navigate the web.

One of my favorite tricks for finding topical titles is to use the ‘intitle’ option. This search operator enables you to search for general words in the article and at the same time searching for a specific word in the title. Researching specific years of a companies history? Recipe substitutes? It’s so versatile.

As a marketing student during college I ended up researching a lot about local businesses. Using the ‘Location:’ search operator was a god send. Digging through sales history, or company growth was so much easier when unneeded geography was cut out.

Finally, the asterisk. The asterisk helps you when you have what I like to call a ‘brain fart’. Putting an * in place of a word you can’t remember. It’s wonderful when looking up lyrics or any titles. I * you guys learn a few time saving tricks from today’s graphic!
