Kuppathu Raja Review

Star Cast : GV Prakash Kumar, Palak Lalwani, Parthiepan, Yogi Babu, MS Baskar

After delivering two quality films like Naachiyaar and Sarvam Thaala Mayam, GV Prakash Kumar is back with Kuppathu Raja, a predictable revenge thriller set in the slum mileu.

MG Rajendran (Parthiepan) is a respectable leader in the local slum and he is a loyalist of the late Chief Minister MGR. Rajendaran's close aide (MS Baskar) and his son Rocket (GV Prakash Kumar) also lives in the same slum. Rocket leads a jolly life and falls in love with his neighbor Kamala (Palak Lalwani) and he also tries to prove a point that he is a bigger than Rajendran. Just when things go smoothly, Rocket loses his dad and there is a murky world exists in the neighborhood. How Rocket and Rajendran join hands to avenge the death of Oornyayam and unmasks the man behind the darker world forms the crux of the story.

While GV Prakash impressed us recently with his stellar performance, he looks quite out of place in Kuppathu Raja, but his fluency in the local slang is laudable. Parthipen as usual steals the show and MS Baskar has also delivered a neat performance. The newcomer Palak Lalwani has nothing to do much whereas Poonam Bajwa offers only glam quotient. Yogi Babu's comedy falls flat and lacks his usual mojo.

Director Baba Baskar has tried to present a revenge thriller set in slum but the film lacks originality and plenty of logical loopholes make it a tiring watch. There is not an even a single impressive scene in the whole film. The stunts are unrealistic and story refuses to proceed.

Overall Kuppathu Raja is a highly predictable revenge thriller which is neither entertaining nor innovative.
