Devarattam  Review

Star Cast : Gautham Karthik, Manjima Mohan, FEFSI Vijayan
Director : Muthaiah

Devarattam is a typical rural entertainer from Muthaiah who is known for his formulaic mass films like Komban and Kuttipuli. The film doesn't offer anything new story wise or in presentation, so only those who enjoy formulaic rural films are the target audiences.

Vetri (Gautham Karthik) is the one and only young brother in a family consists of six sisters. While Vetri's family doesn't want him to get involved in street fights, despite being a lawyer, he takes law into his hand whenever someone harrases young girls. When a local gangster 's (FEFSI Vijayan) son tries to save a sexual offender, Vetri kills both of them. Now Vetri should save his kith and kin from the most dangerous gangster in Madurai area who lost his only son.

The first half of Devarattam moves fast with Gautham Karthik confidently establishing himself as an action hero. He looks super fit and the way he performs action scenes is impressive. But it's hard to digest that this young man can be shown as a one-man army taking on dozens of goons and the strong main villain single-handedly!

Manjima Mohan looks homely but she doesn't have much scope to perform. Among the three villains, FEFSI Vijayan is quite impressive but rest of the actors are just adequate. While the first half is watchable, the second half completely falls flat with unwanted songs, action and cliched emotional scenes.

Technically, Nivas K Prasanna's music is good though songs are far too many. Sakthi Saravanan captures the rustic Madurai locales in style while Praveen KL tries his best to make the film crisp.

Overall, Devarattam is an average rural action entertainer with routine elements which may work for audiences in Madurai, Tirunelveli and surrounding areas.
