Namma Veettu Pillai Review

Star Cast : Sivakarthikeyan, Aishwarya Rajesh, Bharathiraja, Soori, Vela Ramamoorthy, Anu Emmanuel, Natty, Naren, Subbu Panchu
Director : Pandiraj

The biggest success of Namma Veettu Pillai is Pandiraj's flawless writing and his ability to authentically represent the relationship woes among the families that exist in rural areas of Tamil Nadu. While his blockbuster Kadai Kutty Singam had a few over the top melodramatic scenes, Pandiraj has found a perfect balance between cinematic liberty and realistic portrayal in Namma Veettu Pillai. The boy next door Sivakarthikeyan also shines both as an actor and a star in the film which is filled with a huge star cast.

Arumpon's (Sivakarthikeyan) life is all about his sister Thulasi (Aishwarya Rajesh), he also balances his large family despite they always treat his sister as an outsider. While Arumpon tries to find a suitable bridegroom for his sister, the politics within the family diverts all the suitable alliance. On seeing his brother's struggle, Thulasi agrees to marry a local thug (Natraj) who got his own share of enmity with Arumpon in the past. When Thulasi's husband gets himself into trouble, the entire family of Arumpon is under threat. The rest of the film is all about how Arumpon solves all the problems around his sister's life and makes sure that he brings back that smile on her face.

On reading the synopsis, you might wonder that the film's core plot is as same as all the classic brother-sister films but where Namma Veettu Pillai stands unique is in the execution part. Pandiraj's dialogues strongly reflect today's reality within the large families, he has given a light-hearted treatment to the emotional scenes. Yes, there are a few cinematic moments in the film but when you have a star like Sivakarthikeyan, a filmmaker can go ahead and take those liberties.

Sivakarthikeyan has gained back his charm and form with Namma Veettu Pillai, he looks super energetic and effortlessly scores both in emotional and comic scenes. He also looks comfortable in the action episodes in the film, there are a couple of elevation scenes for him the film which gels well with the film's flow and rightly enhances the action hero image of Sivakarthikeyan. Aishwarya Rajesh is picture-perfect for the brat and cute little sister of Sivakarthikeyan in the film, her performance is also very measured that she doesn't go overboard in the melodramatic scenes. The rest of the actors including Bharathiraja, Soori, Vela Ramamoorthy, Anu Emmanuel, Natty, Naren, and Subbu Panchu have done a neat job.

Cinematographer Nirav Shah has given a new color for the rural entertainers and grandly presented the traditional functions showcased in the film. Imman is another hero of Namma Veettu Pillai, all his songs are enjoyable and he also lifts the scenes with his background score. If there is one drawback in the film, it's the Kadai Kutty Singam hangover in the initial twenty minutes but once the characters get established, we smile, laugh, and shed tears along with them.

Overall, Namma Veettu Pillai is a well made rural family drama which is highly recommended!
