Adithya Varma Review

Star Cast : Dhruv, Banita Sandhu
Director : Gireesaya

Director Gireesaya's Adithya Varma is a faithful remake of Arjun Reddy. When Dhruv was announced as the lead actor in the remake, many questions were raised about the young boy and whether he could pull off the role played by two powerhouse performers--Vijay Devarakonda and Shahid Kapoor.

Dhruv has that star quality to him which is so rare to find. He has delivered a solid performance as the unapologetic brash medical surgeon Adi aka Adithya Varma.

Adithya Varma (Dhruv) is a classic example of an alpha male, he believes in his ideology and refuses to change his character for anyone. Though he is a topper in academics, his dean admits that he is a zero in anger management. In a heated argument with his dean, Adi even gets ready to quit the college but changes his decision after falling hook line sinker for Meera (Banita Sandhu). While the fearless masculine attitude helps Adi to get the girl, it also puts him in trouble when it comes to marriage. He can't take it easy when Meera's dad insults him, which results in heartbreak.

Adithya Varma is the showreel of Dhruv. As we have seen Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh, there is no big surprise for us in the film. Despite the familiar storyline, Dhruv impresses us from the word go with his intense performance. Be it comedy, action, emotional scene, the young champ gives his best and he is sure to stay here for a long time! Banita Sandhu is just adequate as the silent girl who doesn't have any opinion. The only change done here is Banita also expresses her interest in Dhruv from the beginning. But her performance in the climax could have been better.

Leela Samson is a good choice to play Dhruv's grandma while the rest of the actors are all fine. While the first half of the film moves at a rapid pace, the second half tests our patience as we have already seen the original version.

Overall, 'Adithya Varma' has proved that Dhruv is a super talented performer who can be the next chocolate boy of Tamil cinema.
