How To Take The Ultimate Road Trip Across The U.S.

A road trip across the U.S. is the adventure of a lifetime, but it’s something no one should undertake unprepared. It’s not just about packing the bare essentials –  those are a given.I’m talking about crafting a plan for your entire journey and all the roadside attractions you plan to visit along the way. Driving thousands of miles is only fun if you have things to see! After all, if you’re traveling to your destination without stopping to take in the scenery along the way, is it really a road trip?

The U.S. is huge, and unless you can teleport, it’s impossible to visit every single roadside attraction in a single trip. You can, however, plan a route that maximizes your chances of visiting the most popular spots. To help you do exactly that, check out this guide to the 79 most popular roadside attractions across the entire U.S.

You may find some may more appealing than others, but we guarantee there’s something in there for everyone. If your goal is to cram in as many cool and/or bizarre attractions as possible on your next road trip, look no further.

9 Habits Of People Who Stay Fit And Healthy All The Time

Can we talk about why some people are healthy and happy every day, while people like me are constantly exhausted and unmotivated? How do those perky people do it?

This infographic offers a few suggestions on how you can become as energetic as those pesky health nuts. First, you’re going to have to adopt a morning routine. This involves waking up early and eating breakfast, which can be difficult. Once you make it to work, you should drink water throughout the day and try to keep your body moving. If you don’t want to be the weirdo doing squats at your desk, you can walk around the office every 30 minutes.

As far as lunch goes, the graphic suggests that you sacrifice your Cheetos and soda for “a bowl of nuts or carrot sticks.” Yum. Later in the day, you should skip the bus and try walking or biking home. Last time I checked, we’re approaching still experiencing some pretty cold weather, so this may not always be feasible. It also suggests having dinner at least 3 hours prior to your bedtime, which means watching Netflix and eating pizza right before bed is out.

As the day comes to a close, you might prepare for bed with a warm bath and powering off your screens at least 30 minutes before sleeping. Even if you’re traditionally lazy, incorporating many of these habits into your daily life really isn’t that daunting. I’ll skip waking up early, but I’ll consider a healthy lunch in the afternoon and walking home in the summer.

50 Health-Conscious Snacks That Are Under 100 Calories

When I’m not hungry enough to eat a full meal, I grab a snack. The problem is, I don’t take calories into consideration, which can lead to some overindulgence. When I found this infographic, I was instantly enthused. Here are 50 snacks that are 100 calories or less. Depending on what you’re craving, you can most likely find a snack on this list that will satisfy. If you’re looking for something sweet, try some frozen grapes. Salty? Try a tuna pouch. There’s an assortment of choices.

Chocolate can actually present itself in many low-calorie options for you to snack on. For example, you can make yourself Nutella-covered pretzels, and that’s only 96 calories. Isn’t that great?

Popcorn also presents itself as a nice option. If you make a proper serving of popcorn with different toppings, you’re getting a low-calorie but flavorful snack. If you have olive oil, lemon pepper, and parmesan cheese, you can easily make a serving of lemon-pepper popcorn that’s 97 calories.

There are many flavorful snack options that can be nutritionally beneficial to you. Who knew that some of these foods could truly be healthy for you? I hope you can take these snack choices and treat yourself to something nice.

This Is The Best Way To Relax & Ditch Perfectionism

I think it’s safe to say that at some point in life, you’ve aimed for perfection. You might be striving for all A’s, hoping for a cushy promotion or working for a dream body.At face value, this doesn’t seem like a big deal, but perfectionism can become a struggle. Thankfully, there are ways you can take control. There are two types of perfectionism we’re discussing today: adaptive and maladaptive. Adaptive perfectionism involves obtainable goals, but maladaptive perfectionism is the type that can consume your life. You constantly try to reach for goals that you just can’t obtain.

Perfectionists should set time limits for tasks they are trying to complete. Procrastination is a habit of perfectionists, and if they set a deadline for a task, it allows them to be strict with time management. Set your timer, and when it goes off, move on to a different task.

If you’re feeling super critical of your work, get a friend to help you out. Gaining a second opinion from an outside source can help you receive the validation you need. Getting feedback from a trusted person allows you to see the positives instead of negatives.

Maladaptive perfectionism isn’t something that disappears easily. It will take time to get your perfectionism under control, but these tips are a simple way to do so.

The Ultimate Wine Guide For Beer Lovers

Are you a beer drinker?  Maybe wine has never appealed to you, or you have found all the types of wine overwhelming. Who knows the difference between white and red, anyway?

We have good news for you: Even though beer is your first love, there are wines that taste super similar. Did you know beer and wine are sometimes nearly identical when it comes to taste or even texture? For example, if you like wheat beers, Chardonnay could be a great choice since both drinks are complex while still being smooth, light, and refreshing. The infographic includes quite a wide range of beers, so it’s likely that you will come across a favorite wine and become a sommelier in no time.

Many people assume that wine is a luxurious drink that can be paired only with special meals, while beers are for casual meals. But as long as you have our guide to food and wine pairings, every meal can be paired with a wine.

Exploring a new drink is always fun because you never know what you’ll discover. Today, you are a beer lover, but soon you’ll become a beer and wine lover. Just make sure that you don’t drink too much wine, or you will ruin the fun.

How Women Can Stay Safe While Traveling Alone

Traveling comes with a multitude of benefits, whether that be meeting new people, seeing new places and/or learning new things. However, it can be scary to embark on a new place alone – especially as a female.

One of the most important aspects of travel is being mindful of the different cultures you may encounter on your journey. The general guideline for most destinations in Asia is to wear skirts and dresses below the knees and shirts that cover your chest and shoulders.

While Europe is generally more liberal, your shoulders and knees should be hidden if you plan on visiting the Vatican. As you might expect, the same sorts of rules apply to religious areas in Africa, and even more so in the Middle East. In Jordan and Iran, you should plan to cover almost all of your skin. Other places, such as Israel, only require that you wear a long, loose-fitting dress.

Some other basic guidelines you might consider following as a solo traveler are to stay inside once nighttime rolls around, avoid quiet alleyways and try to blend in with the people around you. If you do go out at night, use the buddy system and keep an eye on your drink. As always, be aware of your belongings and your surroundings at all times.

Exploring a new place on your own offers great opportunities for self-discovery, adventure and even new relationships. Traveling alone can seem daunting at first, but it is amazing in the long run.

Top 5 Marketing Challenges Of 2018

It feels like 2018 has just started, but spring is already just around the corner.  The end of the first quarter is the perfect time for marketers to review progress on goals.

This year, brands will need to tailor marketing strategies to an ever-growing audience that is as diverse, critical and digital as ever.

To give you a leg up, the team at WARC (the World Advertising Research Centre) surveyed 600+ marketers around the world to find out what their priorities and challenges are—and discovered five themes.

Take voice strategy. Recent research by NPR and Edison Research suggests one in six U.S. adults own a smart speaker like Google Home or Amazon Echo, leading some to call voice the fourth sales channel for brands. But according to WARC’s survey, only 16% of brands have audio guidelines at this point.

2017 also saw a backlash against brand purpose. From scorned campaigns like Pepsi and Kendall Jenner, to complaints that award schemes are over-rewarding socially good ideas, brands are realizing they have to take the long view on purpose rather than jump on the bandwagon.

Are you nodding along? In today’s infographic, you’ll discover all five marketing challenges—according to your peers—and three best practices and pitfalls to avoid.

16 Scientifically Proven Ways To Cheer Someone Up

Have you ever felt absolutely helpless when you noticed a friend was feeling down? Well, the hormones produced by our brains are responsible for positive emotions, and learning how to activate them can help you cheer someone (or yourself) up.

Serotonin is nicknamed the confidence compound. To boost serotonin levels, the infographic recommends eating dark chocolate and listening to relaxing music or sounds. Dark chocolate releases not only serotonin but also endorphins. Some other suggestions are using “word associations” and blasting music in the car.

Dopamine is known as the reward neurotransmitter. To release dopamine, the infographic suggests completing many fulfilling tasks, such as tackling crossword puzzles and other problem-solving games. Cleaning and meditating have the same effects, so it may be worth inviting a sad friend to yoga.

Next, oxytocin is a bonding hormone. The infographic suggests going to the dog park to get more of this molecule, while petting animals also releases serotonin and prolactin. Volunteering brings a sense of community and closeness with others, which can also release oxytocin.

Finally, endorphins are natural painkillers. You may find satisfaction in smashing old plates on the ground or eating tacos thanks to endorphins. Another great way to release endorphins is to fake-it-till-you-make-it by fake laughing until you find yourself laughing for real.

How To Handle Negative Thoughts and Emotions At Work

I’ve heard it said that people who hate waking up actually hate their jobs. For a lot of people, this is probably true.

But for others, it could be caused by some aspect of your job bringing serious distress. And while we all have bad days, what should you do if most of your days at work aren’t good?

When you’re at work, are you stressed out of your mind? Do you ever find it hard to get through the day? If so, you might need some help with the way you deal with your thoughts and emotions in the office. This infographic has tips that can help you change your thought patterns, from curbing your negative self -alk (like beating yourself up when something hasn’t gone as planned) to doing breathing exercises so you don’t lose it when your boss isn’t being reasonable.

And if you suffer from anxiety and depression, you likely experience negative thoughts and emotions on a more frequent basis than other people, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find joy in your work. However, if you end up going for a walk every hour to cool off, it might be time for a change of employment.

Which Sports Have The Highest Fatality Rates?

Life expectancy around the world has come a long way in the last century due to modern medicine and other advancements. Even so, we aren’t invincible, and we’ll all die at some point.

How will you go?  To start with the obvious causes, being obese or a smoker significantly increases one’s risk of mortality, with half of lifelong smokers not making it to 70 years old.  If you want to live a long, happy life, you’re best off not smoking, following a healthy diet and exercising regularly.

Though being active is good, certain activities are safer than others. For example, you have a 1 in 2,200 chance of dying while boxing, and a 1 in 50,000 chance of dying while playing football. Skydiving is thought of as dangerous but you only have a 1 in 101,083 chance of dying. And if you’re trying to stay fit, you’re better off going with swimming or running, which each only have a 1 in 1,000,000 chance of you ending up dead.  Whatever you do, don’t go base jumping, which has a mortality rate of 1 in 60.

Now that you know which sports are safest, you can start planning your next adventure. But you need to make sure you’re digitally safe as well.

These Surprising Factors Can Help Predict Your Chance Of Divorce

You’ve heard people say that you have a 50 percent change of getting divorced if you decide to get married, but is that really the case?

Turns out, divorce rates are actually going down. After peaking in the 1980s with a 40 percent chance of divorce, American marriages have grown stronger –– to an extent. From now until 2020, divorce is expected to either remain the same or decrease.

Apparently, the false statistic about half of marriages ending in divorce started in the 80s when a study said most couples married in the seventies wouldn’t make it the first decade.

So what are your real chances of getting divorced? Aside from traits like education level, age, and your parents’ marital status, your credit score is a good way to measure your chances of marital success (or failure).

One of every three divorcees admitted they were dishonest with their spouse regarding their spending habits, and more than half of them hid cash from their now-exes. A more frightening stat? Around 60 percent of people claim they kept their spending a secret in order to avoid “problems at home.” Yikes!

I’m a fan of opening the lines of communication: Talking about money with your partner is one of those things you have to be comfortable doing. The trick? Keep your debt low and talk with your significant other, and your marriage will last as long as you want to!

Got A Video Game Idea? Here’s How To Profit From It

I’ll never forget the first video gaming console I used: the Game Boy Color. It was colorful, portable, and the games were engaging. How did the Game Boy become so successful? It’s simple: Nintendo was able to make the product marketable to the masses.

Game developers might have a genius idea, but creating a successful video game or gaming console is hard work. If you have a video game you want the world to know about, you should look at today’s infographic on how to make your project successful.

Making a trailer to advertise your video game is essential. It will give fans a taste of what is in the works, and they’ll know whether or not they’ll find it appealing. They get a preview of characters, storylines, and the game play. Don’t give too much away –– you want to leave the consumer wanting more.

Along with a trailer, you should make a website dedicated to your game. On your website, you can give a description, screenshots, trailer and much more. An online marketing campaign can get consumers enticed without spoiling the plot of the game.

I hope you can use these tips to come up with the next big title in the video game industry. Always remember that marketing is key. Who knows? Maybe you have an idea for the next big thing! Need some inspiration?

The Definitive Guide To Radio’s Popularity In The U.S.

Can you believe people once thought radio waves couldn’t travel more than half a mile? Now we know that the first radio transmission in 1900 is still traveling in space. Did you know that radio astronomers can now “hear” radio waves from the first stars that formed after the Big Bang? And one day, aliens in a faraway universe might hear popular radio shows from the Golden Age of Radio like The Guiding Light, The Lone Ranger and The Ed Sullivan Show. What will our cosmic friends think of our soap operas, dramas, adventure thrillers, and sports obsessions?

During the 1930s, radio ownership more than doubled. Today, there are 44,000 radio stations in the U.S., and 65 million millennials listen to the radio regularly. More than 240 million people 12 and older listen to the radio in the United States at least once a week. That’s 9 out of 10 Americans.

There is much debate about whether it was American inventor Nikola Tesla or Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi who created the radio. While Tesla may sound cooler –– ask Elon Musk, who named his wildly successful electric car company after him –– scientists say Marconi wins this round. The inventor received the patent rights for “radio” and won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909.

Both inventors contributed greatly to radio even though they worked simultaneously and without consulting each other, but controversy arose when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1943 that Marconi’s radio patents were invalid and awarded the patents for radio to Tesla. Regardless of who’s behind radio, we all reap the benefits today.

10 Proven Ways To Improve Your Sleep

Imagine this: you just changed into a cozy set of PJs, crawled into bed with a nice comforter, and closed your eyes. You’re rolling around trying to find a comfortable position to lie in, trying to stop your mind from racing, but it’s just not happening. If you’re struggling to doze off, here are some sleep relaxation techniques to try out.

One of the most important factors of relaxation is your bedroom setting. If your bedroom feels uncomfortable, chances are you won’t be sleeping too well. Keep your room at a comfortable temperature, turn off your electronic devices to prevent distraction, and make sure your mattress is comfortable.

You also want to make sure that your body is in prime condition before falling asleep.  If you regularly wake up with a stiff neck or sore muscles, try muscle relaxation and breathing exercises. These can help you relieve physical tension and keep your body in a calm state.

If you’re struggling with sleep, add these tricks to your nighttime routine. Sleep is a necessary refresher, and given all the digital stimulation these days, sleep tends to suffer.

How To Use Technology To Improve Your Long-Distance Relationship

Miles won’t break our love… or will they? Long-distance relationships are becoming increasingly common among modern couples: working full-time and constantly moving, which can make it difficult to have a serious relationship without at least some periods of long-distance love.

Whether you and your significant other spend summers apart or you’ve chosen to take up an amazing job offer that will take you to the other side of the world, being long distance is a difficult decision. Thankfully, there are ways to get through it.

I can’t imagine how our grandparents coped with it: Long, hand-written letters aren’t exactly on par with Skype calls or Instagram DMs. Thankfully, there’s always an app for that.

In the world of smartphones and apps, you can always find one new piece of technology designed to fit your needs. If you’re in need of some long distance love, check out this comprehensive list of apps that will make your love life more enjoyable and maybe even more easier.

From sending messages to watching a movie together, booking your next airplane ticket together and hanging out with common friends, you can be sure you’ll find an app for every part of your relationship.
