Ka Pae Ranasingam Review

Star Cast : Aishwarya Rajesh, Vijay Sethupathi, Bhavani Sre, Rangaraj Pandey
Director : Virumandi

Eighteen years back, Mani Ratnam’s Roja was about  a girl from small town who takes that extra mile to bring back her husband from a tension ridden Kashmir by fighting against the system and the officials.

Now, debutant filmmaker Virumandi has borrowed the same one-liner and packaged an emotional drama that talks about the flawed system and how the society is least bothered about the common man in the country. The film is raw, sans any commercial trapping and is realistic.

Ranasingam (Vijay Sethupathi) is an angry young man who fights for the neighbouring villages. He is a charming man who has leadership quality, a good Samaritan  and can he gather large crowds and protest for the needs of the people.

He falls in love with Ariyanachi(Aishwarya Rajesh) and marries her in a hush hush ceremony due to his social crusader image. But Ariyanachi doesn't want her husband to ignore his family for the well-being of the villagers,  so she asks him to look for a job in UAE and he leaves to Dubai through an agent.

Right when Aryianachi 's life is smooth and peaceful, the family gets a message from Dubai that Ranasingam passed away in an accident that happened in the oil factory that he was working. But to bring back the remains of Ranasingam, Ariyanachi had to knock every door of the Government offices and officials. She even approaches the court but all her efforts go in vain so she decides to meet the Prime Minister of India. Can she win?

The film's biggest strength is undoubtedly Aishwarya Rajesh's intense performance as the determined and innocent Ariyanachi. She is a perfect choice, and needless to say, the actress is in top form and  does complete justice to the character.

Vijay Sethupathi as Ranasingam is apt and his chemistry with Aishwarya Rajesh is cute and brilliant.  Arunraja Kamaraj, Ranagaraj Pandey, Mohan Raman, Poo Ram, Bhavani Sre, and others have delivered fine performances.

Shanmugham Muthusamy's dialogues are a big plus for the film, some of his lines criticizing the system and politicians are brilliant. The climax cuss word against the Government officials and the system is something unexpected,  but we feel for the pain and agony of Ariyanachi.

Ghibran's songs and background score is another big strength of the film and visuals rightly capture the dry locations of Ramanathapuram. However, some of the scenes are too melodramatic and cinematic, especially the pre-climax conversation scene of Aishwarya and the Prime Minister of India. The running time is also too long.

The underlying message on how the Government acts swiftly to bring the remains of actress Sridevi from Dubai and how they neglect a common man like Ranasingam summarizes the whole message of the film.

Overall, Ka Pae Ranasingam is a one woman show .. Watch it for the brilliant Aishwarya and the emotionally charged message.
