Top 10 Richest Countries of the World

1. Qatar

There hasn't been a century since the independence of Qatar from the British occupation, but still it is the richest country by GDP per capita. The Qatar area was populated since the Stone Age, it has been under the rule of many invaders but today it is among the most progressive economies in the world. Located on the little Qatar peninsula, northeast from the Arab peninsula, this once poor Islamic country owes its wealth to the discovery of petrol and oil in 1943. Everyone is rich in Qatar, not only several billionaires and their families. Each citizen has guaranteed job, free education in college, all social services are free and there are no income taxes. Sounds like a dream come true to most people but you can have this only if you have the luck to be born in this pearl of the East. If you are curious how a desert oasis can be transformed into a modern centre, visit Qatar.

2. Luxembourg

You know how they say that the little packages have the biggest value. Well, this statement applies to Luxembourg perfectly. The second richest by GDP per capita in the world is actually a really small but glorious state. Located in the between the former Roman Empire and Western Europe, it seems that Luxembourg has taken all the benefits from both sides to form its own culture, political and economic power. Just knowing that more than 250 banks are located on the little territory of Luxembourg, there is no need for further explanation why this is the second richest country in the world. With the biggest concentration of banks in Europe, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is also home to several international institutions and it is among the founders of the European Union. This fascinating country has three official languages - Luxembourgish, French and German. It is often called "the little Switzerland" because of its stunning nature and inspiring architecture.

The third richest country in the world by GDP per capita can praise itself as a friendly port for international trade. The local authorities have strict rules on economy and they stimulate the progress in pharmaceutical and electronic spheres. In addition, the government encourages the social and public services as well as the educational sector. It may be a luck whether you will be born in Qatar or not but you can easily start your business in Singapore as it is claimed to be the most business-friendly environment in the whole world. Most probably this has something to do with its uprising economy state and climbing up in the charts of the richest countries year after year. 6. United States

United States of America are the most developed country in the world. As such it has earned the sixth place among the richest countries by GDP per capita. Economic experts consider that the only things standing in the way of USA to become the richest country are the geographical conditions and the number of population. Even though it may not become the first place soon, United States remains the home of most billionaires than in any other place in the world. The U.S. searches for a balance between stimulating capitalistic economy and developing social programs. The country of the limitless opportunities continues to invest in education, scientific research and technology which one day will reflect into its GDP. Until that day comes, the United States will continue to supply its economy by the oil and steel industries. What we must admit is that the rivals of the States are the smallest countries while it is among the biggest in the world.

9. The Netherlands

The "Low Land" as some call the kingdom of Netherlands may not be among the biggest European countries but it is among the wealthiest. The Dutch government plays active role in maintaining the high standards of living for its citizens. The Netherlands is the ninth richest country in the world probably because of its social-liberal economic model and the non-interference in the private business. The Netherlands has free market supported by the oil industry as well as the electro-energy industry. What adds the cherry on the top of Dutch economy is the tourism as the country is famous with its legal drugs and other normally forbidden pleasures. Known for its low unemployment and high income per capita, the Dutch economy is progressing fast in the agriculture, engineering and metal industry. Not rich in natural wealth, the Netherlands is an example how all your disadvantages can be turned into benefits.

10. Austria

Speaking of the richest countries in the world, we simply can't miss Austria. Probably, it has something to do with the Alps - all the countries near those mountains have extremely successful economies. The secret to Austrian economical state is that the country is not specializing in producing certain goods but it develops on all levels. However, the strong sides of Austrian economy are tourism, finance sector, new technology and the food industry. Once the centre of a mighty empire, which has controlled most parts of Central Europe, today Austria consists of nine federal provinces. Before joining the EU, many national companies have been privatized. Its capital Vienna is home to various international organizations. Becoming member of the European Union, made Austria more attractive to foreign investment though its main partner remains Germany. The quality of life and the stunning nature have resulted into having one the longest living populations in Europe.
