Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran Review
Director Ezhil began his film career by making poignant love stories like Thullatha Manamum Thullum and Poovellam Un Vasam. But later deviated from this genre to making mindless crass comedies with wafer thin plots filled with a dumb village bumpkin and his sidekick as central characters.
Throw logic out of the window, focus only on tickling your funny bone and offer unabashed, over the top humor seem to be Ezhil's motive behind Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran(VVV). It is a rib tickling comedy entertainer with all its bizarre, outrageous, wacky jokes and superb one-liners...
Murugan (Vishnu Vishal) is the right hand of a tailor turned MLA Jacket Jankiraman (Robo Shankar), a loyal aide to the local minister. Jacket’s close rapport with the minister doesn't go down well with the latter’s nephew (Ravi Mariya) and another politician (Aadukalam Naren).
Before the minister dies, he confesses to Jacket about the hidden Rs 500cr and to use it for the betterment of people. On hearing this secret, minister’s nephew plans to kidnap Jacket but during the chase, the latter meets with an accident and unfortunately, enters into a coma state.
Meanwhile, Murugan is also in trouble after he meets Archana (Nikki Galrani) and falls hook-line-sinker & for her. His friend (Soori) too joins the mayhem as he wants to get divorce paper signed from Pushpa a record dancer (Reshma). In short, Jacket must come out of coma to make it easy for everyone.
Vishnu Vishal is charismatic, charming and vibrant. His faultless comic timing coupled with the enthusiasm along with his comedy battalion makes the film a winner.The supporting cast adds more fun to the madness. Robo Shankar is in fine form. Aadukalam Naren and Ravi maria steps out of their usual villainous roles and have fun with comic characters. Kadavul Rajendran is top notch in the climax. Soori is simply outstanding. His comic timing is impeccable and his one-liners are howlarious.
Nikki Galrani not only looks her best but is perfect for the role. She does those action scenes very easily and is sure to go places. On the downside there are too many songs, which hampers the pace. Technically Sathya’s music is a big strength for the movie, be it songs and BGM, the composer has given his best while cinematography and editing are strictly functional. On the whole, Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran is a joy ride that lives up to its title.
