Sonna Puriyathu Movie Review

The laugh is on the poor audiences. Debutant director Krishnan Jayaraj’s Sonna Puriyathu simply falls flat due to lack of story and corny jokes. The second half drags big time and ending you can predict in the beginning itself.
The only saving grace is Shiva, but he too is getting typecast and his characterisation has hangover of his earlier films like Tamizh Padam and Chennai-28. Not to forget that Krishnan Jayaraj had assisted Amudhan with Tamizh Padam!?
Shiva (Shiva) is a well-known dubbing artist who specialises in dubbing martial arts Chinese films into Tamil. He has a good time with his friends boozing and partying, but is a chronic bachelor. However his mother wants him to marry a traditional girl Anjali (Vasundhra Kashyap), but he hates the idea of being tied down. Anjali also is not keen to marry him, and they hatch a plan to convince their parents, but things go awry.
The weakest link in the film is its story. Saddled with a wafer thin storyline it is up to Shiva to salvage the film to some extent. The scenes showing Shiva dubbing for Chinese martial arts film is a scream. And the way he dubs for Discovery channel’s monkey is also hilarious. He has also sung a few lines in Hindi which goes like – Rosa Hai Dosa Hai !!
Vasundhara is miscast and her comic timing needs honing. The guys who play the friends of the hero are ok; Manobala as usual does a neat job. Sam Anderson appears in a dance cameo. The music is nothing much to write about, Editor TS Suresh’s trimming is good. On the whole the film is a big bore!
