Kaadan

Star Cast : Rana Daggubati, Vishnu Vishal
Director : Prabhu Solomon

Kaadan is a noble attempt from director Prabhu Solomon. The film is all about how humans should co-exist with nature and animals without disturbing the ecosystem in the name of infrastructure and technological advancements.

In the film, Kaadan aka Veerabharathi (Rana Daggubati) is the proud recipient of the title The Forest Man of India, his ancestors have given their lands to the Government to preserve the forest. Like his parents and grandparents, Veerabharathi dedicates his life to birds, animals, and trees in the forest. Everything goes well until Kurunjinathan (Anant Mahadevan), the environmental minister plans to build a posh township in the forest. All efforts of Kaadan go in vain and he is even tortured by the authorities in jail and mental asylum. After his release, Kaadan gets devastated on seeing a huge concrete wall that obstructs elephants and the entire herd gets confused that they cannot live their normal life. The rest of the film is all about how Kaadan and elephants win the battle against greedy politicians...

The film's major highlight is Rana and his earnest performance as Kaadan. We can see traces of Pithamagan Vikram in many places. His Tamil dubbing also sounds flawless. Vishnu Vishal comes as the selfish mahout and impresses us with his emotional breakdown scene in the pre-interval episode. Anant Mahadevan comes as the typical cunning politician and the rest of the actors are just okay. Another highlight of the film is AR Ashok Kumar's splendid cinematography.

In this Prabhu Solomon's film, the message conveyed is not organic and sounds preachy in many places. Also, the editing is disjointed and it looks like, the director and editor have chopped off many scenes on the editing table. What happened to Vishnu Vishal's character? The director hasn't given proper justice to his role and is there any internal politics? You can't shoot a film somewhere in North India and tell us that the forest is in the Coimbatore district just because there is a godman who looks alike Jaggi!

To conclude, Kaadan is yet another message propaganda film. Watch it for the earnest performances of Rana and Vishnu!
