Sathuranga Vettai Movie Preview

Cast:    Natarajan Subramaniam, Ishara, Ponvannan, Illavarasu, Piraisudan, Valavan
Direction:    H.Vinoth
Production:    Manobala
Music:    Sean Roldan

One look at the trailer would make you wonder if the movie is about con, deception and money, well that’s exactly are the means by which the producers are trying to market it as well. The distributors of the movie “Thirrupati Brothers” owned by director Lingusamy is looking to hit a hatrick after their films “Golisoda” and “Manjapai” did reasonably well.

Director “Vinoth” is a debutant who had a rough time in selling his storyline to the producers until he knocked the doors of Nalan Kumarasamy who after going through the script was thoroughly impressed and handed the plot to actor Manobala who is venturing into Production. Touted to be an “Indianized con” movie, Vinoth has taken up con in a way the audience can interpret. Vinoth has entrusted the acting capabilities of cinematographer cum actor Natraj Subramaniam in the lead, also in the cast are Ponvannan, Ilavarasu and newbie Ishara Nair. Kollywood directors, especially the debutants have changed the logic to make storyline as the front runners rather than hero centric movies and from what we hear Sathuranga Vettai will follow bear the same torch as well.

People love money, and vice versa! The means to make quick money is something which nobody would say no to, and the director has capitalized on this to give a full length movie that trots around con, fraud and satire. To keep it entertaining, Vinoth has promised that the movie will not compromise on fun even though it’s a heist film he has furnished with enough elements to make it filled with satire and dark humor.

The movie’s music is by upcoming youngster Sean Roldan who shot to fame with Vaaya Moodi Pesavum, Mundasapatti. The music is already a hit with most of the FM’s playing its hit numbers. Word is that several film personalities had watched the preview of this movie and were all praise for the director for its unique portrayal.

The movie hits the screens this weekend along with Dhanush’s 25th the biggie, will have to wait and see how it settles down after VIP euphoria! Watch this space for more updates on Sathuranga Vettai from Manobala’s SR cinema!.

Sathuranga Vettai Movie Review

Director: H Vinodh
Cast: Natraj, Ishaara, Ilavarasu
Music: Sean Roldan
Producer: N. Subash Chandra Bose, Mano Bala

With terrific screenplay, racy narration and out-of-the-box presentation, new boy H Vinoth’s Sathuranga Vettai is a surprisingly fresh film that works big time. Right from scene-one when we are shown on a wild life channel a Cheetah hunting an Ostrich in a cunning manner, we know that this is not your usual commercial potboiler.

The film rests on intelligent writing peppered with smart dialogues and the fresh appeal of its lead actors. Vinoth’s characterisation is excellent and he chose the right actors which make the story on a con- artist look realistic on screen. It is perfect casting whether it is Natraj who is nothing short of terrific, new girl Ishara and supporting cast.

Sathuranga Vettai is told like six episodes in the life of Gandhi Babu (Natraj) a street smart conman and a smooth talker who can even sell a refrigerator to an Eskimo! His life and his convictions are well established in the opening scenes and it is nothing but money, money, money that matters for him, as he strongly believes that there is nothing bigger in the world than cash!

Well, he has a reason for that, which is told crisply and smartly with graphics in between (in the scene he tells the heroine his life story is clichéd). The film has nice message that money alone cannot bring happiness and security.

The film has sourced real life get rich quick schemes, widely reported in local media like Emu chicken con, Multi level Marketing (MLM) companies scam, temple heists etc. Vinoth’s brilliant script and narration makes the film connect with the audiences.

Natraj is brilliant as Gandhi Babu. He does his part with relish using his brains more than brawn with expressive body and eye language. Ishaara suits the character to a T and makes a smashing debut. The supporting cast of Ilavarasu, Ponvannan, Dharani are perfect choices, that makes film work big time.

Technically the film is chic with top class camera work by debutant Venkatesh. His camera angles tell the story and the top angle shot in the end is fantastic. Raja Sethupathy’s editing makes the film tick, but could have made it shorter. Music of Sean Rolden is in sync with the mood of the film and his BGM heightens the tension in the narrative.

H Vinoth is definitely one of the great new finds of Tamil cinema and scores for his near perfect script, narration and packaging. Producer Manobala and Thirrupathy Brothers can be proud of Sathuranga Vettai. Here is superior quality cinema perfect for a night out at the movies.
