Mupparimanam Review

Director Adhiroopan, an erstwhile assistant of Bala makes his debut and he seems to be inspired from the plot of his guru’s Sethu. The film deals with a guy, who is so obsessed with his childhood love that he goes to any extent to prove it. Jeena Isi ka Naam Hai
On the day of marriage, Anusha (Srushti Dange) gets abducted by Kathir (Shanthanu). We are enlightened about their past through intermittent flashbacks which shows that as small kids Kathir and Anusha had a liking for each other though their respective families are at loggerheads. This is because Anusha's brother had to go to jail due to Kathir's dad, an upright police officer. Now, Kathir's dad gets a transfer and his family goes off to the city.
After a few years the family comes back to the village. Kathir gives up his dream to study in the US so he can meet and be with Anusha. But she goes off to join the medical school but they keep in touch till suddenly she starts avoiding Kathir. Why does she do that and what happens?
Performance wise Shanthanu has shown good improvement, he is earnest and has the screen presence. Srushti Dange’s character is well-etched out as the a practical Anusha. Adhiroopan vaguely touches upon various subjects like honour killing, obsessive love, hero turning psychopathic etc. The major problem here is that today's audience cannot connect with the old idea of "being sincere" in love and the long preachy dialogue that hero mouths in the end. Our sympathy goes to the girl who is practical and has the freedom to break-up from her lover who has no job and select a companion with whom she feels her life is secure.
Although actors like Thambi Ramaiah, Appukutty and ‘Lollu Sabha’ Swaminathan are present, comic sequences fall flat and fail to provide entertainment. Music by GV Prakash is adequate and the 'Let's Go Party' number which has an array of stars in it is impressive. The film is tad too long we only become restless towards the climax.
Overall Mupparimanam is yet another wasted opportunity, dished out in Kollywood.
