4 Things You Always Do To Your Dog That They Don't Like
Dogs are men's best friends, and it's only reasonable that we treat them right. However, there are some acts of affection that humans do to dogs that may not translate to the same thing for our fur kids.
Here are 4 things that we shouldn't be doing to our dogs:
#1 Don't hug them.
Sure, hugging is a way to show that you love and care for someone. But that's because we're humans: we have hands, and we hug. Dogs have four paws, they don't hug. Placing a paw or foreleg on another dog means asserting dominance over the other party. Some dogs may feel threatened by this act, and might act aggressively towards the hugger.
#2 Don't pat their heads.
Again, it's widely believed that dogs like to be patted on their heads. We think that it's a way of 'rewarding' them, an act of saying "good job" or "good dog" to our canine pets. Think of it as an invasion of personal space. Most dogs will tolerate this if they trust you, but you shouldn't do that to them, especially if the dog isn't familiar with you yet. Give them a rub on their backs near the tail area instead, that's the sweet spot.
#3 Don't pull them back when they're sniffing their surroundings.
That's how dogs explore their surroundings, by smelling. Dogs rely heavily on their sense of smell, so it's good to let them sniff around when you bring them out on a walk. Tightening their leash and pulling them back when they're at it is like putting a blindfold on yourself when you're trying to appreciate a scenery.
#4 Don't ignore them.
While you're at work, your dog is patiently waiting for you to come back to spend some time with them. For them, spending time is playing. Spend some time with your dog, it doesn't necessarily mean a game of fetch outdoors, it could just be you teaching them new tricks, or getting them to find their favourite toy.
