Care of Kaadhal  Review

Star Cast : Deepan, Vetri, Ayra, Shwetha, Mumtaz Sorcar, Sonia Giri
Director : Hemambar Jasti

Care of Kaadhal is a slice-of-life film set against the backdrop of small towns in Madurai. The film depicts the constant quest for love in humankind from six to the sixties.

The film begins with a 49-year-old peon Palani (Deepan) who is largely mocked all through his life for getting married. Palani's relationship with his superior widowed officer Radha (Sonia Giri) slowly turns into love. Then, there is this school kid Velu (Nishesh), who has a liking for his classmate Sunita (Shwetha).

We also get to see a ruffian Joseph (Karthik Rathnam) and an orthodox brahmin girl Bharghavi (Ayra) fall in love with each other. The romantic episode between the liquor shop worker Dhaadi (Vetri) and the sex worker Saleema (Mumtaz Sorcar) adds more novelty to the film.

In all the episodes, we get to see man's faith in God. While Vinayagar, Jesus, and Allah are unable to help the respective believers, Palani, the non-believer is the one who succeeds in love. In a scene, Palani tells that he believes in people around him and not God. This subtle yet strong social message is the biggest takeaway of the film and of course, the climax twist gives us the cinematic high.

It takes some time to get tuned for the raw performances of a few unknown actors in the film. Vetri Sudley (Jeevi, 8 Thottakkal) who is known for his monotonous expression is quite expressive in the film. Surprisingly, his performance turned out to be the biggest highlight. Deepan of Mudhal Mariyadhai fame is also quite impressive as Palani. Among the actresses, Ayra, Shwetha, and Mumtaz have done their parts well while Sonia Giri's performance is quite raw that it takes some time to get in sync with her performance.

The film is a frame-to-frame remake, even the shot division and background score remain the same from the original Care of Kancharapalem. We wish that just like the original, the remake's director Hemambar Jasti could've explored the milieu more and bring in more life by developing a unique backdrop by registering the lifestyle of the people in the small towns of Madurai.

Overall, Care of Kaadhal is a satisfying romantic drama that talks about mankind's faith in love and God.
