Theethum Nandrum Review

Star Cast : Eesan, Rasu Ranjith, Aparna Balamurali, Lijomol Jose, Karunakaran, Kalyan Sathya
Director : Rasu Ranjith

Debutant director Rasu Ranjith's Theethum Nandrum  is watchable even though the plot and characters are very similar to few gems of the past like  Subramaniapuram and Pattiyal. This one is set in North Chennai backdrop. Replace Jai with Eesan, Sasikumar with the director himself, and Kanja Karuppu with a cunning and ambitious Sandeep Raju with a few more subplots, the final plot of Theethum Nandrum is ready.

Despite the similarities with Subramaniapuram and a few more films in the same genre, the film has its moments, especially in the burglary scenes. The action sequences are superbly choreographed and shot.

Rasu Ranjith has also beautifully captured the pitfalls of falling in love with the wrong guy in the scenes involving Eesan and Aparna Balamurali. The whole child angle and how Aparna suffers without Eesan bring in a lot of emotional moments in the film.

But the romantic track featuring Rasu Ranjith and Lijomol Jose is unwanted and those portions could have been trimmed. It also doesn't add any value to the film's progress although Lijomol looks cute.

The director could've easily chopped off twenty minutes to make the film crisper. The second half looks a bit longer due to the needless stretch in the climax portion including the child trafficking. We wish Rasu Ranjith's character also gets a proper closure to justify the title. Performance-wise, Eesan looks earnest and Aparna is the show stealer with her ability to move the audiences with her intense performance. Rasu Ranjith dances well and shines in the action sequences. Kalyan Sathya and Karunakaran, the two gang leaders have also done their parts well.

Technically, Sathya's songs and background score stand out and enhance the action and emotional sequences. The cinematography in the action sequences, especially in the climax portion deserves a special mention.

Overall, Theethum Nandrum is a watchable gangster action thriller that talks about friendship, betrayal, and revenge in the North Chennai backdrop.
