Miruthan-Audio review

Cast: Jayam Ravi,Lakshmi Menon
Music: D.Imman
Direction: Sakthi Sounder Rajan

Album Analysis:

Mirutha Mirutha
Singers: Shreya Ghoshal, Vijay Yesudas
Mirutha Mirutha is the quintessential Imman melody. Although the song starts off a bit sharp with Shreya’s vocals, the chorus portions and the accompanying string sections kinda elevate the song. The interludes are made gothic with chorus & extended string sections. Vijay Yesudas enters the song during charanam & does the supporting act well.

Bitten By Insanity
Instrumental
‘Bitten By Insanity’ is a bit of a downer! The idea of the theme music is to create tension & a sense of thrill but the whole purpose is completely lost with the use of soft instruments & violins in the beginning. The bell portion sounds slightly similar to the classic Godfather theme.

 Veri Veri
Singers: Suraj Jagan, Maria Kavitha Thomas
‘Veri Veri’ is where Imman has tried out his hand at Metal arrangements. Although the song has some spirited singing by Suraj Jagan, the tune does not work as it should. The guitar riffs that are used in the background are impressive. Might take some time to get in sync with the song!

Munnaal Kaadhali
Singers: Vishal Dadlani,Sharanya Gopinath
The pick of the lot! ‘Munnaal Kaadhali’ has an instantly addictive tune with energetic singing by Vishal Dadlani. The song picks off pace from the point where the beats kick in and remains a good listen till the end of the run time. There is also a melodious version of the same track sung by Haricharan which appeals just about the same level.

Horrifying Zombies Theme
Instrumental
Terrifically arranged! The ‘Horrifying Zombies Theme’ does not follow a pattern throughout its duration and that’s what works for it. When the alarms go off & when the dubstep kicks in, this instrumental hits a crescendo. Definitely one of the most innovative tracks tried out by Imman in recent times!

On the whole, the album of ‘Miruthan’ has its task cut out well as the soundtrack has the elements to aid the movie. Definitely a very diverse project for Imman as a composer!
