Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru-Audio review

Cast: GV Prakash Kumar, Nikki Galrani, Anandhi, Prakash Raj
Music: GV Prakash Kumar
Direction: Rajesh Album Analysis:

Locality Boys
Singers: GV Prakash Kumar, Ken, Rajesh, Karunas, Grace
‘Locality Boys’ is already popular thanks to the pre-release buzz around the song. Aimed clearly at the masses, ‘Locality Boys’ is a ‘kuthu’ dance number with fast paced beats & percussion arrangements. GV Prakash Kumar, after rendering ‘Bittu Padam Di’ last year, has yet another hit under his name. There is not much musically enriching about the song but that’s not what the song is trying to be.

 Iravinil Aatam
Singers: Gana Baala, Kovai Sarala
Spinned off from the cult classic ‘Iravinil Aatam’ from ‘Navarathri’! Gaana Bala, with able support from Kovai Sarala’s quips, add a lot to the wackiness factor of the song. Although the basic arrangements and the tune are derived from the original, a lot of percussion arrangements have also been layered on top of them. The lyrics are completely madcap & adds to the fun element of the track. Although not personally a fan of remixes, this one wasn’t all that bad!

Gum Zaare
Singers: GV Prakash Kumar, Al Rufian, Malavika Sundar
‘Gum Zaare’ is a peppy GV Prakash styled romantic track with gibberish hook lines thrown around. The song is catchy & the tune is more rhythm oriented. The loops used in this song kinda grow on us making it one of the better tracks of the album.

Hey Pathu Podi
Singers: GV Prakash Kumar
The song starts off in a light manner and the arrangements kick in later. ‘Hey Pathu Podi’ is another youth-friendly tune punctuated by lyrics that sound mainstream. The tune is somewhat pedestrian and one needs to wait & see if it really works along with the movie. The silver lining is a bagpipe-harmonica interlude which sounds quite fresh.

Nee Pona Theruvula
Singers: GV Prakash Kumar, MC Vickey
GV Prakash continues his successful association with MC Vickey after an impressive outing in ‘Idhu Enna Maayam’. ‘Nee Pona Theruvula’ is a romantic track that has sparks of rap portions by MC Vickey. The rendition by GV Prakash himself is self sufficient. The interlude humming portions add a lot of depth to the tune along with the cello section.

On the whole, the music album of ‘Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru’ knows its target audience. Tracks like ‘Locality’ & ‘Iravinil’ are clearly for the masses & the rest of the tracks are quite youth-friendly. But, GV Prakash’s strength lies in the melodies which he usually offers. Here, the composer has played to the movie’s zone.

Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru Review

Director: Rajesh
Cast: GV Prakash, Nikki Galrani, Anandhi, RJ Balaji, Prakash Ra

Capitalizing on his image, GV Prakash Kumar's new release, Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru is yet another comedy entertainer with several Ajith-Vijay references, spoofs on TV shows and celebrities to cater the masses.

Two days before his wedding, Kumar(GV Prakash) and his friend Balaji(RJ Balaji) take a road trip to Pondichery for a bachelor party . While returning to Chennai, Balaji buys booze in bulk but they get caught by three corrupt police officers (Prakash Raj, Robo Shankar and Singam Puli).

Despite their repeated failed attempts to escape from the cops, both Kumar and Balaji agree to bribe them with three lakhs! Unfortunately Kumar's fiancée Priya (Nikki Galrani) acts selfish and refuses to help him with the money but his ex-girlfriend Nancy (Anandhi) readily agrees. Will Kumar change his mind and end up marrying his ex?

Just like his previous films, Rajesh has once again opted for a wafer thin storyline and gives more importance only to comic portions. Thanks to RJ Balaji, Prakash Raj, Singam Puli and Robo Shankar, the film is  enjoyable because of their funny one liners. However the major issue is that the comic sequences are not organic and only filled with occasional gags.

GV Prakash Kumar has successfully repeated his trademark mannerisms and the loser boy Kumaru character is tailor made for him. But the two heroines, Nikki Galrani and Anandhi are wasted in insipid roles,  look bloated with tacky make-up and they sleepwalk.

Yes, RJ Balaji's comedy works but is it necessary to troll everyone including Shruti Haasan, STR and even the film's hero GV Prakash's Pencil ? The actor should probably work on genuine one liners instead of attacking individuals and peers in the industry.

To conclude, Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru is a  watchable comedy entertainer and it might entertain if you don't worry much about logical loopholes and some blatant comedy sequences.
