Harris & Gautham works 24*7 for 'Yennai Arindhaal'

Both Gautham Menon and Harris Jayaraj are working day and night to complete the background score of Yennai Arindhaal.

Harris posted "After continuous sleepless nights of working 24/7, the director and myself crashed during the last day...."

It's quite common that the makers use dummy score for censor and later enhance it till the last moment to bring the best for the film and it happened with Yennai Arindhaal as well.

It has to be noted that after seven years Harris Jayaraj and Gautham Menon are working together in Yennai Arindhaal, already the songs are big hits while fans are waiting to witness the background score of Harris.

'Yennai Arindhaal'- Tidbits

Thala Ajith's Yennai Arindhaal is all set to have grand release tomorrow (Feb 5) worldwide. We bring you seven interesting tidbits about the film, which are revealed by Gautham Menon himself in a video interview

Running time & Extended version
The final cut of Yennai Arindhaal which we are going to see will have a running time of 2hr and 46 mins but Gautham Menon is planning to release the extended version after three weeks after the release in selected screens. He is also planning to release the uncut version soon on dvd and tv unning time will be 190 minutes.

 A script like Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu
When Ajith met Gautham Menon, the actor suggested to come up with something like Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu and hence Gautham Menon made it as a cop story.

Anushka as Thenmozhi, Trisha as Hemanika
When AM Ratnam approached Gautham Menon, he wanted Ajith and Anushka to play the lead roles but by the time Gautham wrote the complete script he got an idea to rope in Trisha for a particular role of Hemanika.

During the narration, Trisha was initially skeptical about signing the film as Anushka is also having a strong role in the film. When Gautham conveyed this to Anushka, she expressed to interchange her role but later both the divas understood that their respective characters are having equal scope.

Arun Vijay as Victor
Gautham Menon is highly impressed with Arun Vijay's performance in the film. "Being a hero, Arun Vijay's idea of playing a different character is something laudable” said the actor in a recent interaction.

Gautham Menon also equally complimented Ajith as he allowed having Arun Vijay to enjoy good screen space in the film.

Vivek as Revolver Richard
Vivek plays a character called Revolver Richard. Gautham Menon says he feels that the advantage of casting Vivek is far too many and his character travels throughout with Ajith.

Harris and Gautham joining after seven years
After seven years, both Gautham and Harris Jayaraj are working together. Gautham says that though he and Harris didn't work together all these years, they always remained family friends.

After Gautham signed Yennai Arindhaal, he went to Harris' place along with his wife.

Deja vu of Gautham's previous films in Yennai Arindhaal
People saying that the trailer of Yennai Arindhaal reminds us about Gautham Menon's previous works but the director says there is nothing wrong about it.

Gautham says just like how audiences expect some touches of Mani Ratnam, Bharathiraja or Mysskin in their films, he too have some trademark things in his movies. Having said that the director clarified that he is not comparing himself with the legends but 'director's touch' is inevitable.

Gautham says that he takes real life inspirations from his experience and incorporate it while writing scripts hence there will be similarities in his movies.

Record opening for 'Yennai Arindhaal' in US

Ajith's Yennai Arindhaal has been opened with favorable reviews and the film registered a record opening for Thala Ajith in USA.

The film has grossed $113,232 (approx 69 lakhs ) in 75 screens on its premiere day which is really good. Ajith's previous best was Arrambam and now Yennai Arindhaal has broke the record.

It would be really interesting to see whether Yennai Arindhaal breaks Arrambam's life time USA collection of 380k$ and enters the half million club along with Rajini, Kamal, Vijay and Vikram.

Directed by Gautham Menon, the film also has Trisha and Anushka playing the female leads.

Yennai Arindhaal Movie Review

Director: Gautham Vasudev Menon
Cast: Ajith, Trisha, Anushka,
Music: Harris Jayaraj

Yennai Arindhaal is a typical Gautham Menon movie and one can call it as the director’s cop trilogy. After Suriya (Khakha Khakha) and Kamal Haasan (Vettaiyaddu Vilayadu), this time Ajith wears the Khaki and it is yet another episode in a police officer’s life.

The film starts with Thenmozhi (Anushka) who meets the mysterious Sathya Dev (Ajith) in a flight and from there we basically get to know the story of Ajith, an undercover cop who befriends gangster Victor (Arun Vijay) in jail. Later, like any other undercover missions seen in upteen movies, Ajith unmasks himself at one point of time and kills the head of the powerful gang and puts Arun Vijay back in prison. The rest of the film is a mere cat and mouse game between the duo.

To be honest, Yennai Arindhaal is just a rehash of all Gautham Menon movies in the past, but here the novel factor is the emotional quotient between Ajith and his daughter Isha (Baby Anikha ) and the mature yet cute romance between Ajith and Trisha. But sadly, those sequences come only for thirty minutes.

Coming to the main theme, the film lacks the reason behind Arun Vijay’s revenge against Ajith and it is left to the audience as it is obvious that Ajith is the protagonist and Arun Vijay is the antagonist. Yennai Arindhaal definitely has its moments and keeps us entertained but somewhere down the line, the mixing is inappropriate.

To point out, the initial gangster portions lacks detailed depiction and it seems that a lot of scenes are chopped off, may be an extended version will do the needful but as of now the back story is not convincing. Also, romantic portion between Anushka and Ajith falls flat which is strange for a Gautham Menon film.

Performance wise, it is Ajith’s best work in recent times. The actor is full of energy and constantly shines in the classic emotional portions and racy action sequences. The scene where Ajith yells at Ashish Vidyarthi is one of the best mass moments in the film and also the scene where he single handedly threatens group of goons while safeguarding Anushka and Anika evokes an electrifying atmosphere. After Ajith, it is Arun Vijay who takes the film to a different level in the film especially his phone conversations with Ajith is terrific.

Trisha looks beautiful and elegantly emotes in the brief role but her presence is felt throughout the movie, thanks to her pleasing face, endearing performance and good characterization. Anushka like all her recent films (Irandam Ulagam, Lingaa) looks jaded and mature in a not-so-well etched out role.

Technically, Dan Macarthu’s cinematography is scintillating that he captures both the tense and emotional portions with vivid color tones. Harris Jayaraj songs (has a sense of déjà vu) and background score along with editing by Antony is commendable.

Overall, Watch Yennai Arindhaal for Ajith’s majestic screen presence and the underlying emotional current.

Arun Vijay moved to tears

Arun Vijay made his debut in 1995 which is almost twenty years back but the actor got his break only before five years back in Thadayara Thakka.

Now the actor has reinvented himself, and played a baddie in Ajith's latest film Yennai Arindhaal which fetched huge appreciation and his character Victor had good scope in the last thirty minutes of the film. His body language, good looks and above the amount of hardwork the actor has invested is to be seen.

On the opening day, the Arun Vjay visited Kasi theater in Chennai and after seeing him, the crowd cheered and applauded for his solid performance.

An overwhelmed Arun Vijay moved to tears as his hard work has finally paid off. The actor's next film will be Vaa Deal.

'Yennai Arindhaal' takes a solid opening

Ajith's Gautham Menon directed Yennai Arindhaal has taken a very good opening  worldwide.  In US it has taken best ever opening for a Ajith film and in TN and Kerala also it has done well.

In Tamil Nadu the film has netted approximately Rs 8.35 Crore on day one (Feb 5) , which is good for a big film on a working day. If the film had released on a holiday and if it was tax free, collections would have been more impressive.

Tamil films seems to be doing well in Kerala. Yennai Arindhaal has grossed nearly Rs 1.65 Crore, a net of approximately Rs 1.30 Crores and a share of Rs 75 lakhs.

In US the distributors Atmus has said best ever Ajith's day one opening. It opened in 75 screens with a record opening of  $113,232.

'Yennai Arindhaal' gets trimmed, holding well at BO

Thala Ajith's Yennai Arindhaal is holding well at the box office and now the makers have decided to trim six minutes of the film. Sources say that as majority of the audience feel that in the first half is slow paced , they have chopped Anushka's introduction song portions in the film.

Mean time, the film is doing humongous business at the USA box office. The film has grossed nearly 415k US $ till Saturday which means it has crossed the lifetime business of Arrambam which is around 380k$.

Previously Arrambam was Ajith's best film at the US box office, now Yennai Arindhaal  broke it in just 3 days (Premiere + 2 days ). Directed by Gautham Menon, Yennai Arindhaal also has Trisha, Anushka, Arun Vijay and Vivek to its star cast.

Is 'Yennai Arindhaal' a profitable venture?

Thala Ajith's Gautham Vasudev Menon directed Yennai Arindhaal took a decent opening worldwide. It has grossed nearly Rs 50 crores world wide in its first four days opening weekend - Feb 5 to 8.

In Tamil Nadu alone the film has grossed approximately Rs 32 Cr with a net (after tax) of Rs 24.5 Cr.   Considering the non-holiday release schedule, it is decent and showed Ajith's opening power. In other territories like Kerala and Karnataka, the film is doing average business.

In Kerala, Yennai Arindhaal  managed to gross Rs 2.8 crores and in Karnataka, the film has grossed 3.7 crs (approx).Though, the film did rocking business in USA by collecting 400k$, the opening in UK and Australia is not up to the level of other biggies like Kaththi and I.

Overall, the opening weekend gross of the film is nearly 50 crores, with a net box office around Rs 35 Cr worldwide, which is good. The film carries mixed reports and at the end, may emerge as just an average grosser.

Gautham Menon open to the idea of a YA sequel

Yennai Arindhaal after an encouraging start has failed to create magic at the box-office, considering the huge budget of the film. But in various interactions, Gautham Menon has hinted that he has an idea to direct a sequel to Yennai Arindhaal as the film is driven by Sathyadev’s character!

Now the director has said that he indeed suggested the sequel idea to Ajith and now it is up to the star to consider to go for a sequel of Yennai Arindhaal or not.

Gautham Menon says the sequel won’t be a cop story but an intense emotional bond between a retired cop Sathyadev  (Ajith) and his fourteen year old daughter Eesha.

As of now, Gautham will complete the STR film which has been put on the backburner when Ajith film came through.
