Knowing ahead of time what you might encounter can help you avoid it, and this is especially helpful if you don't wish to be swept by the crowds at a local protest! Research about scams and crimes in your destination country from travel bloggers and reviews. Body language that communicates confidence is an important deterrent to crime. People who look scared make easy targets, so walk with a posture of authority: shoulders up, chest out, back straight, eyes forward like you know exactly where you’re going.
