'Mellisai-Audio review

Cast: Vijay Sethupathy, Arjunan, Gayathri
Music: Sam CS
Lyrics: Karky
Direction: Ranjit

Album Analysis:
Vellai Kanavu
Singers: Hariharan, Harini
How refreshing it is to listen to Hariharan after a long time! The main highlight of this song is the underplay of instruments allowing the vocals to have a ball. ‘Vellai Kanavu’ has a good acoustic scope and the chorus, lyrics all contribute in keeping up this melody’s appeal.

Lola
Singers: Maria Kavitha Thomas, Andrea Jeremiah
‘Lola’ gets featured twice in the album with the vocals of Maria & Andrea separately. There is no distinct change in both the versions and even the vocal styles are similar. The tune is somewhat what you usually listen with the Madonna’s & Ellie Goulding’s. Impressive!

Parakkiren Naan
Singers: Maria Kavitha Thomas, Srinivas
Slow poison! Srinivas’s portions seem dominated by the instruments which are in the background and his rendition seems bit low on tempo. The tune is slowly etched with usage of pianos, tablas & violins.

Take Me Higher
Singers: Suchith Suresan, Jk, Maria Kavitha Thomas
‘Take Me Higher’ is the English version of ‘Parakiren Naan’ where Maria Kavitha Thomas channels her inner Shirley Bassey to the tune. Suchith replaces Srinivas with his English rendition but the arrangements are pretty much the same for both the versions. Can’t see this finding a place in the movie though!

Mazhaikulle
Singers Haricharan, Shreya Ghoshal
‘Mazhaikulle’ has an highly impressive fusion of electronic and old school melody. Shreya Ghoshal aces it during the charanam portions. Highly likeable number!

Mellisai Theme
Instrumental
The ‘Mellisai Theme’ appears to have the same hangover as the songs and hence, doesn’t register its individuality to the ears. Might work with the movie!
On the whole, ‘Mellisai’ stands by its title and delivers a bunch of melodies. There are two versions of two songs in the album which kind of makes it redundant. But, the tunes sound fresh & impressive.
Picks from the album: Mazhaikulle,Lola,Vellai Kanavu
Album Verdict: Melodious but redundant!
