Top 10 Most Colourful Cities and Neighbourhoods in the World

1. Guanajuato, Mexico

Located in central Mexico, Guanajuato is a beautiful and quiet university city and capital of the state of Guanajuato. The city is a safe place to live, with curved colourful pedestrian streets and squares bordered by pastel-coloured houses with iron balconies. In Guanajuato is also the situated the Museum of the mummies with a collection of over 100 preserved mummies, which reveal the secrets of everyday life in the mountain town famous for its silver mines. Callejón del beso is a little street turned into an attraction. It is so narrow that if you stand at the windows on both sides of the street you could easily kiss each other and that is the reason why it is called the kisses street.  While walking around, admiring the old colonial buildings in pastel shades, you can be only by yourself among the piazzas, beautiful churches, gardens, tranquil fountains, unique shops, cafes and many other stunning places and colours.

2. Manarola, Italy

It is hard to believe there are still people who are fortunate to live in a quiet atmosphere away from the hectic pace of big cities. One of these fabulous places is the small town of Manarola. Manarola is certainly a place that should be seen and experienced - a mixture of pastel houses that climb up the wall of a dark cliff, near the area with the most fertile vineyards. This small area is known for not one but two special unique wines. Manarola is one of the five villages on the northwest coast of Italy famous as the Cinque Terre and renowned for its delicious seafood meals, special wines and as a place that has preserved its charm and atmosphere of blissful calm that local people gift to all the guests.

3. Valparaiso, Chile

Valparaíso, translated from the Spanish "Valle Paraíso” which means Paradise Valley is a town in Chile, an important port on the Pacific Ocean. Precisely there begins the process of colonization, and that is the reason you can admire the incredible mix of cultures and people of modern Chile. Built on dozens of steep hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Valparaiso is a maze of cobbled streets and alleys, and preserved the rich architectural heritage of the city.  Each house in this city is painted in shades of different bright colors. This is because all the ships which arrived there for repair or refinishing, left large amounts of paint, and people take it and paint their houses with it. Colorful houses are trademark of Valparaiso. The coastal part of town known as El Plan, is dotted with narrow streets where are situated plenty of beautiful shops, banks, offices and warehouses, "crowded" around the harbor of Valparaiso. Visit the port and use one of the famous wooden elevators to reach the Cerro Alegre - the most magnificent part of the town!

4. Jodhpur, India

Blue story called Jodhpur begins with the founding of the city which today is the second largest in Rajasthan. Around 1460, Rao Jodha commander of the Rathore dynasty, ruler of Marwar after a series of successful wars, decided to build a new fort on a rocky plateau where is located the current Jodhpur city. One of the most beautiful parts of the city is the Brahmpuri suburb which took its name due to the color - blue. In these lands blue is considered symbol of the noble caste. Together with green they are preferred by all the inhabitants of that dry and hot, tough countries because it represents the freshness of the water. Or probably because India is one of the last countries where the plant indigo is cultivated which elsewhere is among the most difficult and expensive to obtain.  Near the town is the fortress Mehrangarh; you can also admire the giant palace Umaid Bhawan - designed in Art Deco or the fabulous Mahamandir - temple-fortress of God Shiva.

7. Kulusuk, Greenland

First impressions of Kulusuk - a small town clinging to a rocky island just above the shiny lead-grey sea with many icebergs, dramatic peaks in the background and the glittering Arctic Ocean. Many residents still practice hunting for a living there. It is quite strange that Kulusuk remains relatively free of Western influence, despite the constant influx of tourists. The town is famous for its small houses coloured in bright vivid shades contrasting with the snow drifts all around. When the tourists arrive in the tiny airport, the dog sledge driver is waiting to take them out into the East Greenlandic skerries. That is a perfect spot to admire the night sky and the sea reflecting the colours of the Northern Lights, or experience the adventure of climbing one of the icebergs.
