'Lingaa' teaser creates frenzy!

The most anticipated teaser of the next Rajinikanth starrer ‘Lingaa’ got released amidst roaring response from his fans thereby creating media frenzy.

Lingaa brings back the proven combination of Rajinikanth-AR Rahman-KS Ravikumar after ‘Muthu’ & ’Padayappa’. The movie also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Anushka, Santhanam, Radha Ravi and many others.

The teaser gives out glimpses of the plotline that is said to be set in the Pre-Independence era centered on a dam construction. The teaser also shuffles between the two portions in the movie with Rajinikanth being the pivot. Although there is nothing remarkable with the music of the teaser, one would hope that Rahman makes it a hat-trick of successful albums when it comes to the songs.

Rajinikanth simply oozes charisma and his trademark walk is there in the teaser too. The song sequences look grand with elaborate sets and large number of dancers.

With the audio launch just around the corner, this teaser has generated the necessary butterflies among fans who are waiting to catch their ‘Thalaivar’ back on the big screen.

‘Lingaa’ teaser review

The superstar is back in action after 4 long years and we are just a month and 10 days away to see the style Samrat smoking all the box office records once again. The 30 second teaser gives enough idea about what we can expect from Ravikumar – Rajinikanth. We get to see younger Rajini is making his way in front of the dam, which was built by his grandfather, Raja Lingeswaran in 1944. Then we get to see a jaw dropping fight on a moving train choreographer via CG.

The teaser shows both the Rajini for a few seconds and we get to see a frame of a Rajinikanth walking out of a Govt office with his typical swag. That frame could well be the interval block in the movie. Sonakshi Sinha & Anushka does come for a second or two and the art works for the songs are quite catchy. In short, the teaser is enough to cook the excitement for the fans of Rajinikanth all over the world. And, we get to see a clearer picture on the storyline by the end of next week with the theatrical trailer release.

Will 'Lingaa' release on December 12?

Superstar Rajinikanth’s KS Ravikumar directed Lingaa is scheduled to release on December 12, worldwide. Now the Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that Lingaa release date may be pushed to either Christmas or Pongal.

Rumours are there that audio scheduled to be held on November 9 has been pushed to 16, as the audio dart is not ready. The entire shoot of the film is getting over tomorrow (Nov 5), with the completion of Rajini introduction song in Dubai.

Post-Production work has been going on along with a shoot. Remember KS Ravikumar has always kept to his dates in the past, and he targeting to get the film censored by November 30.

December 12 is a very good date to release the film, as it is Rajinikanth’s birthday and a big solo date. The buzz around birthday will be an added boost to ensure an even bigger opening. And if it gets pushed to Christmas, there is competition from other language movies.

Lingaa also gets a clear one week window in the international market before Aamir Khan’s PK releases. Remember Rajinikanth has the biggest share among south Indian actors in the international market.  So producer Rockline Venkatesh is trying his best to see the film releases on December 12.

‘Lingaa’ audio to release on..

One of the most anticipated movies of the year ‘Lingaa’ was wrapped up yesterday and the biggest question is, when will we get to hear the songs of ‘Lingaa’? There was a buzz that the audio launch will take place at Satyam Cinemas during this weekend, but, till now there hasn’t been any official information for the same. We tried inquiring with our sources and found out that the audio will be released a week after the proposed date, i.e on 16th, and the venue is yet to be decided.

Team ‘Lingaa’ released a 35 second teaser last Saturday and as expected the video carried the typical swag of Rajinikanth and it looked very colorful from the word go. The movie is getting ready on a brisk pace and the plans for releasing the movie for Rajinikanth’s birthday is very much on.

Eros buys worldwide theatrical rights of 'Lingaa'

Eros International media Limited, after buying the audio rights of superstar Rajinikanth's Lingaa has gone ahead and has bought the worldwide rights of the most anticipated movie for a record price.

Eros has given out a press statement confirming the news. The buzz is that 150+ Crores was the amount paid by Eros for Lingaa's worldwide rights. This certainly seems to be a record for a South Indian movie. Lingaa is in post-production now and the movie is expected to release on Dec 12th.

Meanwhile, the audio release of Lingaa will happen next Sunday Nov 16th in a gala function in Chennai. Rockline Venkatesh has produced the movie. KS Ravikumar has directed it. AR Rahman has scored the music for the movie.

‘Kaththi’ affects ‘Lingaa’ story?

‘Kaththi’, the recently released Vijay and Samantha starrer supposedly has a similar story to Rajni’s upcoming Lingaa. Sources fear that this fact might reduce the chances of Lingaa becoming a hit film and are changing a few scenes in Lingaa now.

Rockline Venkatesh, the producer of Lingaa has strongly denied any such rumours. Kaththi was based on a foreign firm taking villagers land to infilterate water, and Lingaa runs through the same plot and so KS Ravikumar is reshooting some scenes to reduce the similarities says rumours. But, the two films have no similarities says team Lingaa. They also say that Lingaa shoot completed ages back and is now in dubbing, so all this is just rumours. Only time will tell.

Now plagiarism charges against Lingaa!

On the day when the court dismissed plagiarism charges against Kaththi director AR Murgadoss, a case has been filed by one KR Ravi Rathinam against Rajinikanth’s KS Ravikumar directed Lingaa.

The Madras High Court Bench here on Wednesday ordered notice to DGP and  Rajinikanth, among many others, on a writ petition filed by Ravi Rathinam, an aspiring filmmaker who has accused the Lingaa team of copying his script.

Justice M. Venugopal also ordered notice, returnable by November 19, to producer ‘Rockline’ Venkatesh, Kannada script writer B. Ponkumar and director KS  Ravi Kumar. He, however, refused to pass interim orders restraining the crew from releasing the film’s music on Sunday.

The petitioner Ravi Rathinam of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board colony at Chinna Chokkikulam in Madurai alleges that Lingaa script is based on a script he had written for a movie called Mullai Vanam 999 based on the construction of the Mullaperiyar dam by John Pennycuick. He claims that he had uploaded a video relating to it on YouTube, and urged the court to take action.

‘Lingaa’ borrows a strategy from ‘Kaththi’

For the first time ever, Rajinikanth’s intro song will feature a rap portion; Aaryan Dinesh Kanagaratnam, a Sri Lankan rapper has lent his voice along with the ace singer, S.P.B for ‘Lingaa’. The audio launch is scheduled to take place on 16th of this month and the movie rights along with the audio has been purchased by EROS for a record sum. One could remember that even Vijay’s ‘Kaththi’ had a ‘T (rap)’ portion in ‘Pakkam Vanthu’, which composed for ‘Kathiresan’ intro. Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi clarified that it is not ‘rap’, a new genre called ‘trap’ which is quietly making its wave in western countries.

The title track is said to be ‘Oh Nanba’ and the album to carry 6 songs which include a couple of duets. The OST is expected to carry a typical Rajini’ish inspirational number and the composer, A.R. Rahman has himself sung, ‘Indiane Vaa’. Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu has penned 5 songs while his son, Madhan Karky, the lyric engineer wrote ‘Mona Gasolina’.

Producer Dhanu supports Superstar’s ‘Lingaa’

It has become a routine in Kollywood that someone else or other to file a suit against the much expected movies’ prior to its release. The latest victim is Superstar’s ‘Lingaa’, where a case has been filed against the movie in Madurai sub High court to ban the movie.

Producer Dhanu, who had experienced similar situations in the past with his movies ‘Kandasamy’ and ‘Thuppakki’ expressed displeasure and asked the producers’ council to take immediate actions to curb this.

He adds that, it is okay to demand a ban after the movie’s release, but, filing a case for intellectual theft and for other reasons just by looking at a poster or trailer is not a healthy trend.

'Lingaa' audio rated and reviewed

Cast: Rajinikanth, Anushka Shetty, Sonakshi Sinha, Jagapati Babu, Radha Ravi, Santhanam, R Sundarrajan
Music: A. R Rahman
Cinematography: R. Rathnavelu
Lyrics: Vairamuthu, Madhan Karky
Direction: KS Ravikumar

‘Lingaa’ marks the re-union of KS Ravikumar-Rajinikanth-A. R Rahman combo for the third time after successful outings like ‘Muthu’ and ‘Padayappa’. Although a Rajini movie offers very little room for experimentation with music, there is always a buzz when the audio is round the corner. Let us see how the album has turned out:

Oh Nanba
Singers: S. P Balasubramanyam, Aaryan Dinesh Kanagarathnam
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
‘Oh Nanba’ is the quintessential SPB number which everyone would look forward to in a Rajini movie. The entire song has an arabic touch to it and is stylized like a 70’s bollywood number. Aaryan Dinesh who sung the impressive ‘Magudi’ in Kadal is underutilized here. The entire tune feels a bit rushed and one would rather have to say that the regular ARR touch is missing.

Mona Gasolina
Singers: Mano, Neeti Mohan, Tanvi Shah
Lyrics: Madhan Karky
The real show stealer! ‘Mona Gasolina’ is vintage Mano at his best with thundering vocals and grand percussion arrangements on the lines of ‘Athiradi Kaaran’ and ‘Om Zaarare Zaara’. The ‘pallavi’ when repeated in several places gives us goosebumps. The lyrics although nonsensical are very Vaali-ish. The album’s best!

En Mannava
Singers: Srinivas, Aditi Paul
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
The standard duet that would find place in a Rajini movie has arrived in the form of ‘En Mannava’ featuring vocals from Srinivas and Aditi Paul (her diction being too good). The tune is pretty simple and is catchy. The instrumentation relies more on dholak, chimes and other pleasant instruments that don’t jar Vairamuthu’s lyrics. Has scope to be visually shot well too!

Indiane Vaa
Singers: A. R Rahman
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
‘Indiane Vaa’ is a typical inspiration number which one would expect in a Rajini-Rahman combo. The gospel like chorus portions during the interludes adds depth to the song.  The scale shift during the ‘charanam’ is signature Rahman who dons the singer’s hat and pulls off the song successfully. ’Indiane Vaa’ is one of the better tracks in the album.

Unmai Orunaal Vellum
Singers: Haricharan
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
‘Unmai Orunaal Vellum’ is pretty much a lyric oriented number giving space to emotions and values. There is nothing remarkable in the tune which is shaped on the mold of yesteryear Rahman’s numbers like Vidukadhaiya, Rajyama Imayama. This track in all probabilities would appear at a crucial juncture in the movie.

On the whole, ’Lingaa’ is a highly underwhelming album from the twin Oscar winner whose recent music releases ‘I’ and ‘Kaaviya Thalaivan’ grew tremendously on the listeners and got him rave reviews. The fact that every song’s genre is almost similar to a template gives no room for experimentation. The visuals are sure to engage the audience as the presence of Rajini is an added boost. But musically, ’Lingaa’ needs some time to grow and is definitely nowhere near Rahman’s best.

Lingaa audio launched in style

The audio of superstar Rajinikanth’s KS Ravikumar directed Lingaa was launched in style at Sathyam Cinemas on Sunday (Nov 16) morning. There was a lot of fanfare, bonhomie and the highlight was a crisp speech by the superstar himself.

The programme started on dot of time at 10 am. The entire Lingaa crew of director KS Ravikumar, Rajinikanth, Anushka, Sonakshi, Santhanam, Sudeep,  Vijayakumar and technical crew of cameraman Retnavelu, production designer Sabu Cyril, writer Ponkumaran and producers Rockline Venkatesh,Munirathna and Nandu of Eros  were there on the stage.

The special guests were Vairamuthu, Jagapathy Babu, director Shankar, Ameer, Cheran and SP Muthuraman.  The notable absentee was AR Rahman, who was said to be busy with his international commitments.  The programme was anchored by actor Shiva for Jaya TV, who holds the satellite rights of the film.

The programme started with a welcome speech by KS Ravikumar followed by an AV of Rahman, where he explained each song from the film. It was followed by the trailer launch of the film. The trailer is pure mass and has all ingredients of a Rajinikanth film like action, sentiments, comedy, glamour and punch lines. Sample of punch lines – Let’s begin and See you soon. Two song teasers were also played at the audio launch.

Later there were emotional speeches from director Ameer, Cheran and Vairamuthu urging the superstar to come to politics. Rajinikanth concluded the event with a short and crisp speech, explaining on why he acted in Lingaa. He says there were some health issues which created a doubt in his mind on weather he could act, dance or fight the way he did like old days. It was then that he came across Lingaa story through KS Ravikumar and Rockline Venkatesh his old buddy was willing to fund it without blinking an eyelid.

And he chose KS Ravikumar for his speed in executing any project along with world class technicians. There were lot of hiccups during the shoot of the film due to unseasonal rain, still KSR completed the film under 100 days. Rajinikanth remarked : “The Lingaa unit took care of me like a baby, and I was given sufficient time to rest during the shoot and everything worked out well.” Finally the Lingaa audio was released.

I have learnt many things from Rajini – Sonakshi Sinha

The ‘Dabangg’ girl is all set to make her debut in Kollywood and she is quite excited to be a part of the Superstar Rajinkanth’s movie. In a recent interaction with the media, Sonakshi reveled that she had learnt many things from Rajini and she will never forget the ‘Lingaa’ experience’.

She adds that, “Though I have acted with Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn etc in Hindi, Rajnikanth is my role model. The experience which I didn’t get while working with the others has been gained from Lingaa. Rajnikanth behaves with a lot of respect and affection. He taught me a lot of things, such as treating our body like a temple.”

‘Lingaa’s audio is getting launched worldwide tomorrow and sources close to the unit gives away a bite saying, we could see the theatrical trailer as well along with the audio launch. Watch this tab for more!
