Kavalai Vendam Review

Kavalai Vendam has that good looking lead pair, high-gloss, picture-postcard cinematography, the gilt-edged production design and is a jolly good fun ride. Here, comedy takes the front seat with an underlying romance and predominant the feel-good factor kept alive throughout. Though predictable at every step of the way, director Deekay has a superb cast that never slips, even when his script does.

Childhood friends Aravind (Jiiva) and Divya (Kajal Aggarwal) slowly develop a liking for each other and gets married. But unfortunately their wedding  goes wrong that they decide to part ways on the first day itself.

Years later Divya opts for a second marriage with Arjun (Bobby Simha) for which she should first get mutual divorce from Aravind. In order to give divorce, Aravind puts a strange condition that Divya should live as a proper wife for seven days. Will Divya get the much-needed divorce or end up falling in love with her ex again?

Many of the film’s problems, fortunately, are smoothened out by the lead pair and the comedy gags. Jiiva turns on the charm in full heartthrob mode. His comic one liners have worked out big time. Kajal invests heart and spunkiness to the part of Divya though she has to work more on her Tamil lines, considering the number of years she has been in south Indian industry.

RJ Balaji seems to be in top form, Balasaravanan and Mayilsamy have done commendable job while Sunainaa and Bobby Simha's performances are strictly mediocre.

Another positive aspect of Kavalai Vendam is the glossy rich production values like Karan Johar films. Abhinanthan's scintillating cinematography and Leon James' trendy score. If light-hearted mush is what you’re seeking, you’re looking in the right place.
