Snehavin Kadhalargal Movie Review

Snehavin Kadhalargal – touted to be on the lines of ‘Autograph’, tells the story of Sneha(Advaitha) and her journey where she comes across several interesting male personalities and how she finally finds her true love.
The way Sneha starts falling in love with those characters almost instantly without any strong base and the way the character is able to switch her mindset from one love to the other has no grounds. The Ilavarasan-Sneha track in particular doesn’t work as sympathy has been portrayed as love.
Directed by debutant Muthuramalingan, the areas where the movie work are very few and far in between. The portions involving a character at the park who has the habit of narrating rehashed stories from yesteryear movies are interesting. Also, the segment which narrates the story of Sneha and Paandiyan keeps the audience intrigued to some extent. The several references to some of the esteemed writers like Sujatha, Balakumaran were very good.
The movie tapers off as it progresses with the first half being the superior of two halves. Technically, the movie falls short. The glitches in editing are quite visible and the movie’s visuals look as if they were shot in a handycam. Despite the writing being good to some extent, the movie fails to work as most actors in the movie have hammed heavily. The portions involving Ilavarasan-Ramya in particular is an example of hamming to the hilt.
The songs sound good but the way they have been shot is a test for patience. The second half of the movie has been shot in the hills of Kodaikanal which guarantees few pleasing visuals.
On the whole, Snehavin Kadhalargal is not a movie you would remember after watching. Had the director atleast got the melodramatic acting toned down, this movie would have been watchable.
