Aranmanai Movie Preview

Cast:    Sundar.C, Vinay Rai, Santhanam, Hansika Motwani, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea Jeremiah, Nithin Sathya, Kovai Sarala, Manobala
Direction:    Sundar.C
Music:    Bharadwaj

Nothing sells as good as two genres in one lot, two mangoes in a single shot; just the same in movies when you get to see horror and humor together its entertainment unleashed. We simply love Sundar.C movies for its simple and light hearted take on humor with dialogues that could remain in our mind for a long time to come. With an ensemble cast of gorgeous ladies and comedy actors, Sundar.C’s horror debut looks ready to take the audience on a roll this September.

The Cast of Aranmanai is flashy with Hansika, Andreah, Santhanam, Kovai Sarala, Vinay Rai, Nitin Satya, Raai Laxmi and finally the director himself. But that’s not the end, as a whole the film houses around 28 actors! An extensive set was setup by Mohan Babu in Hyderabad for this film, and as the title of the movie goes major portions of the film was shot in the opulent set put up. With such an ensemble cast, what could possibly be the storyline might be everyone’s guess and such questions just make Sundar.C smile wryly, the man has something more than you actually wish for!

A big family who wish to sell of their ancestral house and all of a sudden they discover supernatural elements in the movie, so what could possibly happen next? The story looks to be like the saying “Old wine in a freshly draped bottle”, well considering Sundar.C’s movies they are known for entertaining screenplay this should be the one to watch out for. A lot has been said on Hansika who plays a village girl with supernatural powers; her acting is something one has to watch out for. Andrea and Raai Laxmi are the other two gorgeous women along with Vinay Rai too.

One other major feature of the movie is the usage of CGI – Computer Graphics, almost an hour of the film will have CGI. Inspired by Chandramukhi and Kanchana, this movie will be on the lines of a family entertainer without compromising on horror elements a well. Scary movies always need the element of surprise that blows the audience away from their seats and hopefully this movie should have its share as well.

Bharadwaj returns to music after quite a while, and the songs are just making a decent comeback for the musician. The film is slated to release this month amidst heavy expectations.

Aranmanai Movie Review

Director: Sundar C
Cast: Hansika, Vinay, Andrea, Sundar C
Music Bharadwaj

The current trend in Kollywood is to make horror comedies, as it has a good reach among all sections, including lady audiences. Sundar C a director known for his slapstick comedies has ventured successfully into the horror-comedy genre with Aranmanai.

The commercial elements comedy, horror and glamour has been mixed in the right proposition by the writer and director. What works is a riveting performance by Hansika, along with comedy track of Santhanam &Co and is packaged as a fun entertainer by Sundar C .

The director follows the regular commercial format set for such films. The story is about a large family that wants to sell their ancestral home, an Aranmanai (palace). The supernatural elements they discover in the Aranmanai lead to some scary moments. The interval block proves that there is a ghost in the house. And post interval in a flashback it is revealed that a spirit is seeking revenge against the villains who ruined her life.

The family gives the director an excuse to have a large cast Hansika, Santhanam, Vinay, Andrea, Rai Lakshmi, Manobala, Kovai Sarala, Nithin Satya, Saravanan and others, who have a jolly good time. The film is more a comedy than a genuine horror film. The first half story does not move as it is totally devoted to Santhanam, Manobala and Kovai Sarala comedy tracks, while the second half has more supernatural thrills including a long drawn out climax, straight out of a ‘Amman ‘ film.

Hansika has given her best ever performance. Her introductory scene towards the interval block jolts you. Her role is the best written in the film while Andrea and Rai Lakshmi are the glamour quotients. Sundar C does his role with ease and his mannerism reminds you of Mohanlal’s in Manichitrathazhu. Santhanam is back to form. His ‘pae massage’ scene and the way he reacts when he sees the ghost is a scream. Kovai Sarala and Manobala antics make you laugh.

Technically there is nothing much to talk about as the graphics and special effects are run of the mill. The four songs are speed breakers and the second half the tempo slackens.

On the whole, Aranmanai is a time pass entertainer, which makes you laugh more than making you scared. It is good fun while it lasts.
